Maybe at a thrift store get a rifle cover you could hang or even carry while you're out with Sadie. Put a large stick in it to keep it stiff. I know upping the game could cause trouble too, but if you're already playing the part of a hunter... They fold down pretty small so they wouldn't take up much space... Just a thought.

Hey Carolyn, I'm sorry it took me a few days to catch up on my KZbin videos, and I just wanted to ask you to please be careful about leaving anything of value unsupervised, including your RV, especially in the middle of nowhere in the south, because there are a lot of opioid & methamphetamine addicts who'll steal anything that isn't nailed down. I'm a Tennessean who's a recovering addict that's been clean & sober for 6 years, after being addicted to opiates & other drugs for more than 30 years, and unfortunately I know all too well the desperation of securing that next fix, and the lengths some addicts will go through to aquire the means necessary to do so. Anyway, please stay safe and give Sadie girl a big kiss for me. Have a blessed & wonderful week. 🤗🐕‍🦺💞🙏

I took a day to think about it. If you were at a state park and were across a site entry, I wouldn't necessarily think you were in it. Also, you have out of state plates. The locals may think that you don't know that you are blocking a camp spot. Regardless, how rude to honk at an RV in the night. Very rude of them.

If you're blocking access to someone who CAN make it in there (higher clearance, 4 wheel drive, whatever) then yeah, you need to make way for them. Even if it looks like a crappy road, someone might be approaching from the other direction and wants to get through, etc. You can't really be blocking a road even if it looks sparsely traveled. Someone could be down there hunting or whatever.

You said it, She was parked on a driveway? No she choose to park on a road that was obviously used to reach the top and then" claimed" the spot for her big RV thus blocking access to anyone who CAN reach the top for camping or viewing. If she can't drive to a location because of her rigs size she has no right to block the only ACCESS ROAD to the view point at the top. Stay safe and don't block roads. 🌎❣😎
@AngelBaby11117
@AngelBaby11117 2 жыл бұрын
Erin, the main access road goes to a lake with multiple boondocking sites all around it. Carolyn pulled off of that road onto a 1/4 mile dead end spur. which she was using to walk her dog. She said that she would move if someone wanted to camp there. This is not a campground it is a boondocking area where people usually want their own space and privacy. It is first come first serve.

Nah, That's a road to the campsite. There are possibly other things the land between you and top of the hill could be used for, or camped on. Plus it just kind of seems like you're saying, if I can't use it nobody can. Now as for the trucks. Country boys like to do a few things. Hunt and Drink. Hunters like to "run" dogs. Depending on what they're hunting for depends on the time of day they run them. Coon hunting happens at night, all night. They use GPS collars to track the dogs so when they run or tree something they can locate them. Also if they run several dogs occasionally one will get on the trail of something else or a battery will go dead and they have to find their dogs. The guys late at night were just looking for a dog. They pulled the others out hoping it would call the lost one in. Hence yelling for it. With that said country boys like to hit those roads to drink and party, Maybe you were blocking their planned spot. Sometimes being technically right isn't always worth it. Also, listen to some country songs. Chillin on a dirt road.... smoke rollin out the window... an ice cold beer sittiin in the console... isn't just catchy lyrics. LOL Glad you're ok but I don't think you were in any real danger.

I don't think you're using the campsite, you're using the road. Since you're unable to use that spot, why keep someone else from using it? I wanted to add, I've lived in a couple of small "homey" towns that seemed so friendly. The downside is everybody knows everybody's business, and that gets old. Just something to think about if you ever decide to settle someplace. 😄😄✌️❤

We moved to a "homey" friendly area. Turned out- you'd better be White. We are and were horribly shocked to hear these same "sweet" small town citizens using the "n" word, making comments about other customers in the store that were not White, or poor. We found it almost impossible to find actual friends as everyone, literally turned out to be racists as the norm and we were the "weird ones" BECAUSE we didn't find their jokes funny or comments and said so however gently. Also being in the EMS (which is how we got accepted into the community it turns out) the police were seriously small town thugs. And enjoyed it. They could be helpful... but if they don't..... doesn't matter if you're a good guy or not. They harassed for no reason people they thought were hippies, and bragged about chasing non Whites out of the county come nightfall. There is one case of probable sodomizing of a prisoner as well. Not like all of that now.. but wow taught us to NEVER trust a "homey small town" unless you really get to know it.

@@jamesmarsh9888 I've lived in a traditionally black area for nearly 25 years, and it is not quite as we white people think it is, when we only meet black people on "our turf". In this neighborhood, if you don't act like a jerk, most people give you at least a degree of respect for that. There are exceptions: an arrogant young woman started ordering me around, and actually ordered me off the property where I have lived for 24.5 years. It started with a misunderstanding, that she deliberately escalated, barking out orders. When she ordered me to leave (!), I had been walking to the store. I couldn't let her intimidate me, and when I walked back in her direction, she went ballistic about me touching her, which I had no intention of doing. I just had to face her down, from a reasonable distance, because if I walked off property while she was "ordering" me off, it would seem like I was knuckling under to her nonsense. Every black person I told about this incident said she had no right to do that, and someone must have told her not to do it anymore, because she avoids me now. Her best friend is friendly with me. I think that perhaps she just pegged me as a type of white person she hated, and as the typical villain she wanted to validate her feelings against. The point of me telling you this, is that in nearly twenty-five years of living here, very few black people have showed even a mild form of that attitude. Few students from the nearby universities show it. It's actually much rarer that you would ever know from the media (which glamorizes it, leading to an expectation of black people being that way), or from some interactions in the white neighborhoods, where black people tend to feel a little tense, expecting something bad to happen. As for someone trying to terrorize me, there has been very little of that. When I told my friend I used to talk to at Wendy's (when the dining room was open) about another incident, she said, do not listen to someone who tries that on you! She said it was bogus, and spoke as if she had no respect for it, and a lot of black people, my neighbors, seem to think like her, too. Black people do experience racism, and that's real. They will fight back. There are some black kids who bully white kids at schools; that is real, too. But if you knew black people when they are relaxed, on their own turf, you would be surprised at how kindly and respectful they can be. Race is not a good reason for anything. It does not explain any human actions, any strengths, any virtues, any weaknesses, any sins. All of those things are spread across the human race. Culture can encourage good or bad behaviors, but the "racial" genetics of people are not as determining as many other things, including the consciences of individuals.. I once saw a documentary about the Human Genome Project, and they examined the DNA of a group of people to compare with the millions of other samples to see whom they were most closely related to. A young, sensitive, introverted girl from an African country, was most closely related to a boy in China, not any of the thousands of African participants. That highlights the fact that genetic race is not all that it is cracked up to be: not what the "typical," white racists think it is, and not what the typical Darwinist thinks it is, either.

It got so bad for us that we just kept to ourselves which made us wonder why we were even there? We had moved there wanting to be part of the community and wanted to go to all of the little farmers markets and small town festivals but we avoided them after our first year. We left after 4 years. I think you might have overlooked a possibility with your “ concerned locals”. Here in Northern California we suddenly have a lot of transients and druggers who somehow acquire RV’s, park them in areas they shouldn’t for weeks or months on end, while creating huge volumes of trash and supplementing their habits by stealing anything not nailed down. Perhaps they thought you might be an undesirable element rather than a happy camper and just didn’t want you to get a foothold in their community.
@1nhonho
@1nhonho 2 жыл бұрын
The thing is they don't see anything that confirms that theory. So why bother her? I think it's just intimidation because they think the land belongs to them. And the sense of entitlement to police others is a very big problem in this country. They had to force her to reply. Which means this is someone quietly minding their own business. THEY are the undesirable element if you ask me.

Folks who approached us were very friendly and courteous. But today? It's definitely an entirely different world out there. I now have a small class B and, while I still love traveling, I'd be hesitant to stay in isolated places without other RVers in the general area (I enjoy my privacy so no campgrounds for me, unless absolutely necessary). People do it for 2 reasons. 1st is they don't want people stealing or messing with things on their farm property. 2nd they do it too see if someone needs help. I live in a small (7,000) town and it happens a lot. My dad lives 20 miles out and he would do every time, for those 2 reasons. My guess is they lived very close to where you were. You did well Carolyn. In rural areas people notice every out of state plate and every unfamiliar vehicle. He probably was really checking in on your well-being, and hearing only a dog might have been concerned for a dog seemingly alone. In rural areas it’s normal to be proactive in greeting another person. It’s a fine balance to show yourself or not but always implying that others are with you and more are arriving imminently, helps. The tarp over the generator might have been interpreted as engine trouble. It’s hard to anticipate how others will interpret our set up. Great spot! You need to not block access because who knows who is already up that road, and if someone else arrives with 4x4 and can get up there, you need to not prevent them from using the spot, that you are not using as it was intended.

I’m going to disagree with you on this one. I’m looking at it from the point of view of someone who IS able to make it to that campsite. My thought would be that if you can’t make it to the actual site, camp somewhere else. Because if I am able to make it out there and you aren’t able to leave enough room for me to get past you, I’d be aggravated that you blocked a great site that’s accessible to someone else. The other thing I thought of is your safety. Someone who wants that spot may be the type of person that goes from zero to a hundred in one second. That kind of confrontation can be dangerous for you. It’s not worth it. Stay safe and give that beautiful Sadie-girl a big kiss and lots of pets for me. 🐾❤️🐾

I lived in the Ouachitas and it's still my domicile. FYI it's pronounced "wah-shit-a" (sorry if that seemed a little raw). They most likely were looking to be sure you were safe. It is scary though, especially if you're used to city life where there is so much more crime. Arkansas is a beautiful beautiful state. Full of places to camp.

I would absolutely be nervous out in the middle of nowhere by myself. I know you don't say whether or not you are armed, but if I was living the same lifestyle, I absolutely would be. And if I had to walk out and confront strangers in the dark in the middle of nowhere who are confronting me (disturbing my peace) in that manner, I would have no qualms about stepping out with gun in hand.

The problem is every state has different laws and laws about transporting weapons from state to state. So Rvers that are armed with a gun are at some point breaking the law depending on where they travel. If you find yourself in a situation where you actually need to use that gun you better be aware of the laws of that state or it could be you going to prison even if it looks like self defense.

Reseal your roof once yearly with Dicor rubber roof sealant if it's a rubber roof. Otherwise, you lose the protective seal. I'm originally from the countryside of PA. If someone pulled into a back road in an RV there, the locals would want to know what's up with that too. Remember, you are on their turf. They got suspicious. But you handled it well. Be careful. I worked the census bureau one year. It's a bit scary how many people are armed that live remotely. I would avoid any hunting grounds during hunting season.

Have you considered that the screws (usually four, at the corners) anchoring the inside portion of your A/C unit to the ceiling may have shaken loose and that is where your leak is? Losing a snug fit leaves a gap for rain to run everywhere up in your ceiling - it seems to show up everywhere except right at the A/C. If the screws are loose don’t just screw them back in - since your rig is not new you most likely also need a new gasket up top where the roof portion of the A/C is seated on the roof. Over time the gasket gets really compressed and no longer seals well, which is also a potential source for huge leaks. Make sure when the screws are re-snugged up through the ceiling that the screws do not go through the roof gasket or you’ll have even more leaks!

We had an air conditioning unit on a LQ horse trailer and didn’t know about the gasket needing replaced. After one strong storm we found the inside of the place flooded. The gasket as it turns out was compressed by about 75% and beyond useless. The damage actually was at the walls and wall/ceiling connection. There was very little right at the a/c. I can’t tell you how much money we would have saved if we had just replaced the stupid gasket before it leaked.

It’s been a while for me. I had to take a break from both RV life, and my marriage. We were the people that had everything that could go wrong did and for everyone’s safety I fled. We shouldn’t have tried the way we did because it was really hard. Just to live and we are Canadian. So you know Alberta Canada is very cold in the winter 🥶 we couldn’t even use ours yet we had to borrow our friends tent trailer. So we started at the end of march it was very cold and the weather was in a little cold snap my cat learned under the blanket with Mom is the warmest place to be . We got our motorhome there and we had problems with everything. So my advice make sure you have a safety net of money, time in season, and a completely functioning unit . I had to flee a marriage crumbling under the stress of everything failing. Don’t go like this you will be divorced!

Why would you tapout after you've survived the bear in camp? Why? If they were going to hurt me they'd have done it already. I hope the leak situation gets resolved for you . It's kind of my roof. Where and why does it leak opposite of where one thinks? As far as leaving the next day? I wouldn't. You held your ground. I have no opinion about where to park because I don't have an RV. Frankly, I would do the same as you did since it was very quiet with the exception of the truck.

I think she answered you a bit roughly after your comment. She tends to do that at times.

Ask any roofer, leaks can 'move'. Water follows the path of least resistance. Do you have any dehumidifiers or fans or anything to help combat the mold? Leaks are my biggest fear.
