I'm not 100% sure if it was Joel this season who had his food cache easily raided by a wolverine, but I just don't understand how "survival experts" don't understand or appreciate the importance of food caches for survival... therefore I don't understand why they build these ridiculous elevated food caches that many wild animals can easily raid. It's as if they think wild animals are stupid or incapable of problem solving. It's just too easy to build a proper food cache that cannot be easily raided and I don't get why they keep constructing the same, idiotic, weak cache design that has already proven to be ineffective in Antarctica and which is just as ineffective nearly everywhere else. Another terribly built cache was the one made by the guy who tied his fish to an elevated crossbream using cordage which he tied to the tree trunk of one of the support trunks... who does that? Obviously and predictably, a bear came along and simply tugged or chewed on the cord to release and eat the fish. When will at least one participant on Alone build one properly built food cache I wonder! UPDATE: And just as I made this comment someone finally built a pretty sturdy, nearly perfectly designed food fortress in season 7. I'm so glad to see someone finally take the time and use some human ingenuity to build something that can actually keep animals from stealing food. It's not a perfect design, but I think it will work and I'm looking forward to seeing if it does.

I'm ok with everything, except the leather man. Seriously, haven't you heard: the more moving parts, the higher the chances of failure? A buck knife, same price as your leather man and you can actually sharpen it. (unless you're going to cut down a tree using the saw blade on the thing).
@smkinrade4 жыл бұрын
Leathermans are well known to be very high quality. I have two that are over a decade old and show almost no wear. How do you have a multitool without multiple parts? It has more than a knife. Those pliers alone are a great addition.
@SirBobbyDuncan4 жыл бұрын
@@smkinrade In the event of the other tools, such as pliers, screwdrivers, and maybe 1 misc item... I see no actual value. In truth I see the blade on a leatherman only good for maybe whittling. In the event of gutting fish or dressing land animals, (which is where my comment was based) It seems more logical to use a buck or straight blade knife.
@jamesellsworth96734 жыл бұрын
@@SirBobbyDuncan Check out Season 3 Winner, Zach Fowler: he relied on a modified Leatherman for wood carving; its file for keeping his Cold Steel shovel's cutting edge sharp and for sharpening his saw. Others have use the plier head to move hot pots. Season after Season of Alone, some multitool goes along.
