A classic North Indian breakfast dish! Here's a simple recipe for Aloo Paratha:
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup ghee or oil
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
For the filling:
- 2 large potatoes, boiled, peeled, and mashed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Chopped cilantro, for garnish
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the dough
1. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder.
2. Add ghee or oil and mix until crumbly.
3. Gradually add lukewarm water and knead for 5-7 minutes.
4. Cover and rest for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the filling
1. Mix mashed potatoes, onion, green chili, cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala powder, salt, and lemon juice.
Step 3: Assemble and cook the paratha
1. Divide dough into 4-6 equal portions.
2. Roll out each portion into a thin circle.
3. Place 1-2 tablespoons of potato filling in the center.
4. Fold and seal the dough.
5. Roll out the paratha into a circle.
6. Heat a non-stick pan or tava over medium heat.
7. Cook paratha for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.
8. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Serve with:
- Butter or ghee
- Chutney or raita (yogurt and cucumber sauce)
- Pickles
- Tea or coffee

- Use leftover mashed potatoes for an easy filling.
- Add grated carrots or peas for extra flavor.
- Use whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
- Experiment with different spices, like ajwain or kasoori methi.
