Hey Everyone! Sometimes customers ask the simple question "Is my order all there?" and you would think that has a simple enough answer but.... not really. Here's a perfect example of what we don't know what we're walking into and why we the drivers aren't at fault!

I've worked warehouse for many years. Orders are to be ready the night before. If they "don't have a forklift driver" management is next I. Line to help out. Is she the Dept manager? Why didn't she jump on the forklift and start loading it up. Unbelievable!!!

Maybe HD tried to save money by limiting fork lift drivers. 😄 I know that for insurane reasons, you cant operate a forklift unless the employee has current certification and is insured for it by the company. You cant just have any employee do it, even if they have 20 yrs experience prior or a championship ring from the fork lifting superbowl of the Galaxy.

@@SoCalKevin A lot of it is for the very good reason that a forklift is a bloody dangerous beast- it isn't 'just like driving a car' and having seen in person a guy getting seriously injured by an incompetent (and unlicenced) forklift driver that left him unable to work for months afterwards, its understandable that any company will want their operators to have a level of competency guaranteed by a certain minimum level of training provided by requiring certification...
@SoCalKevin
@SoCalKevin 2 жыл бұрын
@@steved2136 yup totally agree with you Steve! A forklift weighs more than a car and can do serious damage with itself and/or it’s load. Plenty of accident vids here on KZbin, even within Home Depot. One year I was certified to operate a forklift as a small part of my job at a company I worked for briefly. Thought it was a pretty fun job playing forklift Tetris, but it’s definitely not something you want to do without the proper training. Use a spotter whenever possible and it will help avoid most issues, but like you said, the competency level is crucial. My fork lift instructor even said you’d be surprised at how many people fail to get certified due to lack of common sense. Watching Mike man the Mosfit is one of the things I enjoy about this channel.

I used to work for Home Depot when they first rolled out the pro desk concepts and started deliveries… And let me tell you it was an unorganized hot mess and then in three years I was there it never got any better.
@philliptaylor4544
@philliptaylor4544 2 жыл бұрын
As a former big box DIY "hot mess" employee, I can say, they skeleton crew the stores and 90% of the staff are not forklift certified and when they DO have a forklift operator they are supposed to have a spotter while inside the store... and the delivery truck driver cannot serve as spotter, neither can a customer... so it takes 2 employees to move anything from inside to outside. I was the "loader/spotter" for the lumber side of the building for 5 months, I was never forklift certified and they routinely scheduled me 8 hour shifts solo, without a forklift operator or anyone else helping me at all. It was a kick in the face to THIER customers for me to have to tell them I had no way to bring lumber down for them or to load pallets for them, I offered to help load pallets of sakrete by hand but most of them wanted it loaded on pallets so they could unload it with thier own forklift at the jobsite. There was nothing I could do, I had no help and I tried calling my manager or paging for a forklift operator but nobody ever showed up because the 2 other people in the building were also busy with thier own customers in their own deparments. I also had to cover breaks for tool world, which couldn't be left unattended due to high theft, so that left nobody in lumber at all for up to an hour at a time. Managers typically aren't forklift operators, only spotters if they absolutely have to. This was all during peak season and they weren't even TRYING to find any help or hire anyone else. Needless to say I quit working for them. Absolute garbage company.

All too common- what they don't think of is that by holding you up for an hour (or two, or three, or four)- EVERY SINGLE DELIVERY after them is held up by that long- I can bet if they wanted you there at 8am- and you decided to roll in at midday- they would be screaming blue bloody murder (as we aussies say)- yet they are quite happy to cause exactly THAT to anyone after them... I been in the delivery game since the early 90's- and I ended up very quickly- if it isn't ready- then call me tomorrow when it bloody well IS ready... you knew exactly WHEN i was coming... The same ones that are ALWAYS 'just a few minutes more' when waiting for a load- notice how if it was 'supposed to be there at 10am' at 10.00.05am, they are already on the bloody phone screaming 'wheres my delivery'??? Any business that starts pulling this BS- I automatically doubled their prices for any future delivery...- if they didn't like the price they can try and find someone else (LOL- truckers talk to each other you know...) So you 'may' lose a customer by doing this- better than losing a dozen others because you are 'always late' Not to mention the abuse the driver cops because his deliveries are always 'late'- been there, done that- too old and grumpy to put up with BS from the consignees- or the consigners... F..K em all... Be nice to your driver- or hire your own bloody driver...

I work at HD now actually and I’m so glad that my store is now near this bad as this location. This store seems like everyone there is unorganized and just don’t care. While I personally don’t drive the forklift yet, I can say for a fact that we never keep this much product outside and that our management encourages everyone to be able to drive almost all lift equipment. We are still I think the busiest store in my area and we stay 1000% cleaner than here. If this is what a majority of the stores are like, I definitely don’t want to change locations

Ive seen everyone screw up at least once. Happens once or twice, no big deal but if it becomes a recurring theme, he might want to consider another line of work. As for the decking not being ready, We were supposed to have all deliveries ready by 10pm the night before. Theres no excuse for that. Side note, I'm less than a month from road testing for my Class A. Lmk if your ever looking for a CDL driver with forklift experience. 😁Love the channel.
