I'm in the middle of your video, but it's the "their hair is more manageable the more they know about it." I grew up doing my sister's hair, which is 4c. My hair is 3c-4a and I PREFERRED to do my sister's hair because I had more practice at it. My mom did my hair. I think we were a divide and conquer family. 4c hair is satisfying to do for me because it stays where you put it, it has great volume, the braided styles last longer and look better. I also find that folks with 4c hair have better tutorials and are more skilled at caring for their hair. I've learned a lot from the 4c portion of the natural hair community.

Some of these natural hair youtubers don’t like their own Afro textured hair and have the audacity to spill that venom to their subscribers . I can wear a wash n go. I can wear an Afro. I can wear a twist out ,braid out, Afro puffs. Do you know why? I love me and I love the hair that grows out of my scalp. Period!!!

I love 4C KZbinrs. I am constantly looking for them. I did a big chop Labor Day weekend and now I got 4A on the top of my head and 4C edges. My lil sister taught me that we don't do edge control, we let our edges do what they do. And we don't have baby hairs. All our hairs is grown.

We also need more 4c KZbinrs pushing out styles and protective styles without extensions. Extensions are aggressively pushed to most 4c girls so they never learn how to work with their hair or love it. I watched a few 4cs relapsing to the relaxer and the number one reason they give is they didn’t know what to do with their hair and were tired of the wigs. Kandid Kinks, onesmartfro, naturally high tend to work with their hair. Janae Mason, not 4c but is very handy for cute styles. Another drawback 4c girls face is unsupportive family and friends. And the teens must have it really rough from boys so they are forced to hide their hair. But I remain positive. The utopia is a world where 4cs of all shapes, sizes and lengths are visible on our streets, schools, jobs, everywhere really .

When I was transitioning, I was so afraid of having 4c hair because everyone that had it complained BITTERLY about it. Video after video, ppl with 4c texture couldn't '4c' themselves doing the styles or they went on and on about how dry and difficult their hair was and how much it shrunk and had knots everywhere etc. If ppl who had that hair type spoke so negatively, I sure didn't want it.

I am 45 and lived that 4C hair struggle. Been told over again about how my hair is too nappy, too dry, too unmanageable. Been refused by stylists. In 2005 - I got the courage to get Sisterlocks and wore them until August of 2020. The whole time I was in sisterlocks, my younger sisters were cracking the code on growing their natural hair to their butt. I couldn't believe it. For the first time I felt like it is time to embrace my natural hair unrelaxed and unloc'd. Being in sisterlocks was so easy and lazy - of course I took that mentality with me for my loose natural hair journey. I refuse to have a wash day that takes more than 3 hrs from prepoo to detangling and styling (not counting dry time). I am happy to say that my wash day is 1 hr for a wash n go. Thank you Jesus I just go my twist out routine down to 1.5-2 hours. I did this by refusing to put my hair in a box of can't do this and can't do that. I break a few rules if necessary. There is no one size fits all. I continue to try new things until I get the results I want. With so many products and styling gadgets, there is no damn reason to be complaining that you can't make your natural hair work. In 2020? GTFOOH.

My trichologists changed my hair mindset in 2019. They literally told me to stop box braiding and cornrowing my hair and to moisturise it daily. So I had to learn to French braid my own hair. I knew how to French braid extensions but never my own hair. Now I know how to care for my hair. When I do wear it out of a scarf, without a manipulative style like a twist or braid out, I get so many compliments probably because few people have ever seen hair like mine especially in Lacefront London! I let my (black and non-black) friends touch it and they are always shocked by how soft and not greasy it is.

@@ahms8689 I don't really follow racism like that. If I have the opportunity, I do it even if I know I will be the only black person. If we don't engage places like Hong Kong or New Zealand, they will always remain ignorant of black people. I have a friend who lived in Japan for over 10 years although the institutional racism and xenophobia mean she will never be a Japanese citizen, the people she deal with on a day to day basis are very welcome and she lives in rural Japan not in any of the big cities. She hate Tokyo. One year I hope to meet her in Okinawa. I was treated well when I went to Phuket in Thailand.

Also, 4c hair is the most versatile because we can go from super shrunken to long and flowy and all we have to do is change the styling technique. Try that roller set on freshly washed hair and you get one look, try it on stretched hair and you get a completely different result.

I think your videos are a blessing. There is so much lack of representation for 4C hair. I think to pave the way for other naturals, black women with highly textured hair need to wear their hair despite what society may think. In all levels of professions we need to wear our hair as it is. That is the only way society will see what is actually natural for us as being normal in general.

In my opinion, one of the problems is the idea that you need a 10 step + regimen to get acceptable hair. Natural hair becomes hard work if you are trying to make it do something it doesn’t want to do. Once I REALLY got comfortable with my hair, I realised it doesn’t actually need that much. Of course I still have frustrations - I wish it was longer and thicker - but if I had continued to chase the trends I would have continued to be unhappy.

I've truly gotten to a place where I just take off my bonnet and let my hair to do what she wants. Poofy or defined. It's whatever as long as the moisture's there. I love that I got over that comparison nonsense. I use a lot less product and take less time on wash day, not trying to get my hair to submit to a style that has nothing to do with coily hair.

I love 4c hair. Did the haters of 4c hair grow up with their hair relaxed? You should be use to your hair now. So many videos on how we should take care of our hair. Wash it, condition it, moisturize it and put it in a protective style for a week at at time or for six weeks. Cornrows,twist it's such freedom I have not having to flat iron or press my hair every day. I've been natural for decades. 3 steps is all you need.

This is an important message. Even though as a white woman I do not receive the same kind of texture discrimination, I remember how my mother talked about our curly hair when I was a little girl. I told her when I was 11 years old that I wanted to grow my hair long. She would always make me have short hair. So that day she decided to try to convince me to give up on long hair. She said: "Sara, people like us were not meant to have long hair." Even at that young age I remember being shocked by what she said. I realized that she was ashamed of herself. So sad. The natural hair community has really helped me. However, the videos in the last few months have made me realize that I have also been trying to get looser waves in my styling. My natural texture is small ringlets. Now, if I want to style it different -- that's ok. But I also want to embrace my natural ringlets and let them do their thing.

All curls and coils are beautiful. Wear your tight ringlets with pride. I used to relax my coily hair completely straight because I thought it was the only way to look neat. I wasn't even convinced I would ever look neat and put together again when I went natural. I let my hair grow out natural purely on principle. I decided that I wanted to represent the version of beauty that God gave me. He made enough straight haired people so while I'm busy imitating them, who is representing my hair type? Then there's the issue of shame resulting from being uncovered as a fake straight haired person. I did not like my reliance on relaxers and how a missed relaxer appointment could potentially ruin my self image. If civilisation crashed and we couldn't get store bought products I wanted it to be immaterial to my confidence.

We all have challenges within our own textures. Like anything else, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. It’s greener where you water it. I agree that we all need to embrace what our own hair does and stop being so critical of ourselves and others just because we don’t see the challenges they endure with their own tresses. I love washing my hair now. I used to hate it when I didn't know how to care for it. I've learned a lot about it and now I know what works for me, plus if a style goes wrong, I know I can still turn it into an awesome puff. It took 2 years though, so I get everybody being at different parts of their journeys.

I started in back in 2009 because I was tired of being tied to the salon and still unhappy with my hair. I was natural back from 1998-2000. Then I went to a salon for graduation prom and they didn't know how to do any style by straight ones so they relaxed it. Now I'm not a slave to the salon and I actually know what my hair needs on a weekly basis. What it feels like dry, what build up feels like what it feels like moisturised. To be honest I learnt from Aveda stylists, books and the trichologists. KZbin has always been secondary.

I had this conversation with a coworker yesterday about how long it took me to embrace my thin multi textured but mostly 4b and 4c coils. I kept comparing my results with influencers that have hair nothing like mine. I’ve been natural since 2005 but for the last 5 years I’ve learned to appreciate my texture because I’ve gotten the chance to learn more about what makes it manageable. I did a big chop in May and had no idea of what I was doing. It’s been a blessing to watch You, Jenn J, Bubs, LaToya, Starr Puppy....the list goes on. I love my 4 type hair...definitely 4c in the crown. I have become a product junkie lol, but that’s what it took for me to get my routine and styles down. Now I have a consistent routine, my go to products, and I wear my natural hair often. You ladies have really made me proud and confident because I had examples to look to. Thank you so much!

Once again... GREAT topic and delivered so well. Girl where were you in 2015 when I first went natural and saw my natural hair for the first time in decades? I thought it was a dry frizzy mess. As a result, I reached for the relaxer again and immediately regreted it. I've been natural (again) for 4 years and have learned so much about my hair and have grown to LOVE it. The kinks, coils, curls and all. I tend to only watch content of ladies with hair like mine (4A/4B). But even then, I had to learn that my results would be different using the same products because of other factors (porosity, climate... I live in the dry a$$ desert of AZ, etc.). So I had to learn to work with MY hair, in MY climate with MY lifestyle. Now my hair is flourishing and I'm no longer stressed about my hair. It's a beautiful feeling.

I remember my first perm rod set. It came out as a stretched out fro. Totally different from what I had seen. I laughed at myself and styled it in a high puff. I often go long times between watching natural hair videos, but when I am in the mood I always pull your channel up and watch it. Girl, you are so right about people complaining that they can’t do this because it doesn’t look like hers ! Many people don’t consider their texture and how it looks on their hair and it is indeed beautiful. Another huge thing...my 4C hair is manageable....but it took years for me to figure out my hair and what it likes and don’t like. I can even make terrible products work on my hair through mixing them with others because I have finally learned my hair and embraced it’s texture and I work with my texture, not against it. I'm just like this: if a majority of people in your bloodline excelled in keeping their coif up by limiting manipulation and cleansing it when needed..I would think it wouldn't be a problem. Hair texture ain't really the "kryptonite"....it's the connotations associated with the variety of textures. The less kink has been embedded in our brains for decades as good whereas others with more kink have been labeled bad. I got 3 different textures and it's alright! You just have to be your own "mad scientist" to figure what your hair will thrive on and I bet you'll be glad to have stuck with it because it defines you and regardless what's been ingrained in your mind ...it's 👍

While I agree that alot of folks wish their hair was different, I'd like to offer a different perspective. I don't have 4c hair. I think I have a range of 3b-4a throughout my hair. You mentioned taking the time to learn what works for our hair. That trial and error process is a beast. Beyond frustrating. Even taking the advice from those with similar hair, things don't always work out because "everybody's hair is different.". While I haven't had a relaxer for over 20 years, I've always straightened my hair and my system was fairly simple. With that as my point of comparison, working with my natural hair is more work. It just is. And frankly I don't enjoy the process. I've never liked fussing with my hair. I've never liked playing in my hair. I don't know that I'll ever come to like it even after I finally nail down a process that works reliably. It feels like I have to be a trichologist, dermatologist, stylist and cosmetic chemist just to care for my hair. that's a lot to put together. Ordinarily I like learning. I heard someone say that the black woman's project is her hair. I'd rather it not be my project. Some women may not be articulating themselves the best and it may come across as envy. It could simply be they are frustrated and at a loss. It's alot to decipher and alot of experimentation. To want something simpler makes total sense to me.

I've always considered myself more than my appearance which has worked against me. I was never into make up as I had eczema as a kid all over but a large amount on my face. Being a women and not conforming isn't always a way to make friends and influence people! I could go on about the word conforming but I'd be here all day. A person fixating on hair is only one aspect in life. Imagine not being light enough (skin tone), feminine enough, too loud, too brash and the list goes on....I'm 45 and have embraced my hair texture in the last 2.5yrs (when it's supoosed to be straight) but spent the last 13yrs embracing me, loud and proud.

Perhaps there is too heightened of a focus in the black community on appearance in general. In my opinion, our hair/looks are discussed in excess and other qualities (personality, character development) are not discussed as much. This reflects in the views of videos on your channel, for example. You have excellent videos on reading, personal development, and other under-explored areas in the black community but the videos receive a fraction of the views of your hair-related videos.

So true. Looking at the wider social circle, I also noticed how Black (Both African and African Americans) a lot of energy into their appearance, dress, cars , dancing and ‘looking ‘ good on the outside. And that’s to the detriment of the community. I enjoy you tubers like Achia, Jouelzy, Nappy headed Jojoba and others because watching them challenges you to be informed. The black community is really lacking on being informed and educated. If the new dance craze comes out, it’ll trend . But not something academic or improving in general. It’s saddening really, because a lot of sharp black minds are losing out.

I've been natural over 15 years and learned that my 4c hair is unique to me alone based on my specific hair needs in that moment. I then cleanse and style accordingly. I finally got tired of trying to keep up with the Hair Joneses and took it back to the old school of what my mom (who was also a type 4 with a fro natural) used to do with to my hair. Been happier ever since. We're not a monolithic people so why wouldn't it be the same with our hair?

Agreed wholeheartedly! What bothers me is when I see people with tighter textures bashing those with looser textures and saying things like when they complain about issues with their hair they’re only doing it for compliments. That’s absurd. Everyone’s experience is their experience and their ability is their ability. The texture of the hair is irrelevant if they don’t know how to manage it. Secondly, I think it’s ridiculous for people with tighter textures to be mad at people with looser textures but at the same time complain that people look negatively at tighter textures. None of us have any control over the features that we show up on this planet with. If you expect to receive grace then you should be able to give grace. It took me a minute to accept my hair for what it is because my family is Panamanian and my sister has looser hair than me. But I learned how to manage my hair and it’s mine and I love it. I have my days... but for the most part, I love it.

Facts!🙌🏿 For 2021 I wish for self love. There is no mistake in Creation, just need to accept the image in the mirror and find the key to your hair. As you practice and listen to advice from people who want to improve your haircare, it gets easier. The hair can do anything and is simply BEAUTIFUL.

I believe I have 4a hair but my curl pattern is different than "typical" 4a hair. I have course/thick strands/ high density, doesn't clump. Speak good about your hair, she is listening. Lol

This is why curl pattern and texture should not be interchangeable. 4a should not be confused with 3c despite many people having 3c/4a. Despite 4a being tight s-curls, it doesn’t mean that you always have a silky texture. This is a big mistake or misconception to have because that’s why if someone who doesn’t have “normal looking” 3c hair they might say they have type 4 or someone who’s hair doesn’t look the way 4b “should look like” might say they have 4c. I’m not bashing hair typing at all but I’m bashing how people are attaching way too many connotations to each hair type. Hair type does not determine your texture, density, or porosity (I see people do this so much)

This video is so on point. I’m 4yrs into my journey. I’m still ripping my hair out detangling. Still pushing through tho.... My hair is 3C/4A and fine as sewing thread. I wear my hair in twists. I’m gray so that brings another factor into my naturally fine hair. I say to myself this is the hair I was given so embrace it. Love it!!! Also, my hair is thin, and I refuse to buy hair. No shade to those that do. That is just my preference. It’s taken me awhile to get to this point and it has been so freeing to let go of the permed hair, acrylic nails, and diets that don’t work.

First of all l think you are very beautiful and have amazing natural 4c hair. It's time to ignore those that don't like your hair type. I am of African origin and my natural 4c hair has grown long thanks to all the women on KZbin who love their natural 4c hair. The number of black and African women who love their 4c hair is actually growing. When I cut off my sister locks a year ago, I went to KZbin for hair styles and tips. I slowly learned how to spot type 4 hair content creators after spending a lot of money and wasting a lot of time trying to replicate a style would not work for my hair texture. I don’t think that type 4 hair is difficult to manage, having a perm or jerry curl is hard work.

I wonder how much content generation pushes the styling videos of tighter texture hair, especially 4s.🤔 I know a LOT of type 3 YTers whose 300+ videos are 90% WnGs. But WnGs are the easiest styling option for many Type 3s, whereas twists, twistouts, and assorted protective styles tend to be easier for most type 4s. Being that type 3 hair is generally more resilient to frequent handling (and type 4 hair is generally more fragile); I think a lot of the “non-Internet” styling doesn’t make its way to KZbin at least partly because type 4s don’t style their hair as often unless copying type 3s regimens. 🤔 Too, I think many type 4 YTers I follow have admitted they wouldn’t style their hair as often if not for YT- and all that extra handling is almost certainly contributing to length plateaus. It is extremely difficult for me to follow creators who have not shown a grasp of the concepts they claim to be promoting .🙃🤷🏾‍♀️ So sometimes, a YTer will have generally nice content but every other week videos of the damage and breakage and setback of doing a thing they *know* their hair doesn’t like- apparently for views. It’s extra tragic when they damage their hair for clicks and those clicks don’t translate into community building or subscribers or more opportunities.

Personally I don't like my 4c hair because it's hard to retain length. It's thinning. But this is my hair! I'm trying to work with it and have a constant regimen. I'm trying to learn it. I wouldn't mind doing a 20 step routine once my hair actually grows. Society doesn't like our hair too. Family/friends/co-workers always talk about about us "doing something" with our hair but why should I, if that's the way my hair grows out my head

That's sad. Now my mum, my sister and I have natural hair. My mom tried to have relaxed hair without visiting the hair salon and it didn't work. Because she didn't know how to care for ur away from the salon. So after that random escapade into relaxer she went back natural. Also we are an island family the beach and relaxer do not mix well. I don't know if its the salt water or the sun but it's ruined many relaxed hair of my friends. Meanwhile I can jump in the sea with my natural hair and its okay when I come out. My Co-workers like my hair when I allow them to see it. Lol! The air conditioning is too drying especially in winter to leave my hair uncovered at work too often.

It's very difficult to find my hair texture on KZbin and very difficult to find people who know what to do with it in real life. My hair is ultra fine, high porosity, ultra dry, pen spring 4c coils (mostly. The nape is on some random S wavy sh*t but I ain't looking back there. lol!) However between my trichologists and my Aveda stylists, they have given me the best care regimen and that quickeat styling techniques on my hair so u can never say my hair is hard to manage. If they can do my hair in an hour and they are the professionals, so can I! I don't have to have 20 step wash days or 5 hour detangling sessions if I don't want to. We need to level up and learn from books and pros not just KZbin. So at nearly 40 there us nothing I would change about my hair. It suits me completely in its natural, short, 4c form.

Oh wow! I literally just did a video about my natural hair unpopular opinions and I talked a great deal about hair typing and stressing the beautiful that I see with type 4 hair.. I have a looser fine/textures and my entire life I’ve been told I had “good” hair smh I make it my mission to educate others that have tighten hair textures that their hair is “good” also... the texture itself doesn’t make the hair “good” it’s the time, effort, and love that the individual puts towards there hair..

Right I used to watch the 3 c put i realized it was hair envy no mam. I wear twist outs and curl the ends. Or i will wear a wash n go. It's been a while since I've commented, since I'm feeling some kind of way as a 2A wavy and your channel is for textured 4 hair. I like watching YOU and I'm sorry that your channel is only for 4 textured hair but I feel your topics apply to anyone of colour, take colourism as an example. I wanted to say that your topic applies to all textured hair. You're right about ppl envying others and I've always hated that my Chinese wavy hair doesn't look good in cornrows or that I can't have a fro, you hit the nail on the head. But then I'm never going to get volume of even someone with 3 hair so it's a non starter. I thought when I started the cgm that I was actually going to have 3a hair (my dad has 3a texture). Curl envy applies to everyone and everyone always wants something they can't have, such is life. If you can't love your hair then there'll be other things you hate about yourself, I think that's a female thing. I'm now 45 and only recently (been on an adapted cgm regime the last 2.5yrs) realised my frizzy straight hair isn't straight and I always hated my hair because I didn't know how to look after it, sound familiar? I see plenty of women refer to nappy hair, it's just dry and needs more moisture. If I've learnt one thing from you is moisture! Seeing kids/people in the street not knowing how to care for their hair is everywhere!

This video made me sad and i feel now i know why. I love the feel and texture of my African hair. I would love to wear it free every day, but i cannot, as soon as my hair grows past 2"long it starts to break. Then i have to braide or twist my hair. My hair is now between 4-5" long now and has been so for approximately 5yrs, it doesn't grow any longer, the ends naturally break off. Just like our eye lashes i believe it grows to its optimum length then becomes weak and falls away. Washing conditioning Oiling, jelling, moisturising etc is just hair care, it may also be kidology! Acceptance is another thing. I developed myopia as a child, that's why I wear glasses. My hair is weak, it doesn't make me happy, it's short, i have no choice but accept it. I'm just glad i have hair on my hair! We are all mixed to some degree, that why some have long managable hair and some don't. I accept that life is more than hair. 🙂

No disrespect but 4c will always be more difficult to manage compared to 3c /2c … When I was 18 I did a mini big chop and I was disappointed because I thought I would have 3c , but at that time nobody really talked about 4c . Soo i had a hard time . Even today I would feel like It would be lie if I told someone 4c is AS Manageable as 2c/3c hair type.( 4c is WORK) I agree we have to learn our hair and see what works for your 4C. I love the thickness of my hair / I love the kinks,
