Howdy, Alpay! I’ve been painting abstracts with acrylic for two years now, and I’m loving it. However, my husband is a master artist (especially with oils) and I’ve always said...”I can’t paint anything realistic like he can.” Then I found Alpay Efe...~ Your paintings inspire me ~ to the point that I’ve painted three portraits following you. I’m now loving painting portraits with oil! Yay! Thank you for helping me on my way as an artist!

You are one of the only painters I have subscribed to... I love the simplicity of how you work. I seem to overthink and overcomplicate.... thank you for your advise. I struggle with oils. I'm going to try the fast drying medium so I don't have to stop to wait to dry... I tend to get bored!
@GalleryBry3 жыл бұрын
If you ever need any help with oils, I’ll be happy to help. Here is a little tip for you: in addition to fast dry mediums, you can also use more burnt umber in your mixes. It’s a great color modifier and the natural manganese in it oxidizes the oils faster. My paintings are usually touch dry in about three days with no mediums. :) Hope that helps. Stay inspired. Bry. :)

Really awesome painting, and I totally agree about your point about the masterpiece. i always find when I build up a painting as something that needs to be super good, it always diminishes how much I enjoy the process and it almost never actually adds anything to the painting. On the other hand, the more I can relax and just get into the painting process, often the better the painting turns out. (of course not every one is a win.... but if you can enjoy it... in the end it's still a win even if the painting isn't perfect)

Your videos are so fantastic! Witty, intuitive, educational, and inspiring! “Cold butter on bread”! So true! I am in the process of battling a commissioned portrait that just won’t seem to work! Fuzzy and no details or even eyes for the photo! I have other references to look at but none from the same angle or lighting and I am really struggling to get her features right! Her wedding pics that she was really disappointed in and wants a painting to make up for it! So absolutely no added pressure! My wanting to create a masterpiece for her, is like you said in the video, preventing me from creating what I would deem as even ok work. So frustrated but I keep watching your tutorials and trying to adjust my mindset! I have stepped away from it for a couple of days to work o. Other commissions and caring for my son who is having health problems. Maybe when I come back to it in a few days I will have fresh eyes and fresh inspiration! Thank you!❤

Like Alpay always says; there’s no wrong way. Dive in! You are so lucky! You already know how to draw. That is huge. Mix some colors, and just play with paint. Oil is the best medium! The most important thing is that you have fun experiencing it and don’t put any pressure on yourself! Best of luck!
@marijke16383 жыл бұрын
@@ginaalvarez6023 thank you so much Gina! That helps a lot 😀 Maybe I shoukd not focus on how good the art work is going to. But focus on the experience. I will dive into the world of oil paint for the first time this weekend👍🏼
@GalleryBry3 жыл бұрын
You should definitely give oils a try. I always tell my students, the only thing to fear is the regret of not trying. Here is a little exercise just for you: get a pear or your favorite fruit and paint it from life. If you already have drawing skills, the simple subject will allow you to fully focus on color mixing and values. Just use a red yellow and blue. And white of course. A limit palette makes it easier to remember color mixes and it creates color harmony. If you really want to learn the tradition way, just use white and black at first. Values are more important than color. Try setting a timer for 20 mins and paint a small panel, 5x7 perhaps. Painting small, fast paintings will force you to eliminate all details and focus on color and value. Painting small, fast paintings everyday will help you progress rapidly. Hope that helps. Stay inspired. Bry. :)

I always learn something from you in each video, Alpay. I learned Many things from this video in fact. This might seem like such a simple concept but learning WHY you chose the particular blue background was interesting to me. I guess I was feeling feisty and needed to comment! Maybe because I was disarmed when that right eye suddenly appeared so alive and incredibly real. When you applied the pinkish color to the inside corner, I actually said “oh my God” out loud.
