You can paint the wood panel with gesso, that will prime it. You can also sand it first. I don’t know what he used but, you can use a piece of Masonite. The hardware store will usually cut it for you also. You can get it cut to the size of a pre-made frame, like 8x10, 11x14, 16x20 or buy the frame first. Acrylic and oil paintings generally don’t have glass.

i hate quotes like this cuz theyre wrong. if ur goal is to be a career artist, n ur unanimously not good enough yet, then everything u make is a failure, according to urself. u r literally failing to meet ur own self-defined goal. unless u can seriously live the whole "itS tHe JoURneY" bullshit. then again, tons of career artists have trash art. seriously theres some 17 yr old kids that should just get punched in the face n we all know it.

You are not a failure, is amazing what you can do in painting. I am a Failure , as a self taught painter that lives in Portugal. Where in Fine Arts just post-modernist painters are supported by media. Living in big expectations or ambitions, goals, working on realism is like fight against the wind. But I am not afraid, I paint and don`t quit. I`m happy in front of my easel.

Im glad i watched this video today, and thanks for sharing it! The last part where you said ‘failure is just the result of a recipe that didn’t work for you’ resonated with me so much, and so much deeper than just in my art. I was never allowed to fail as a kid, and this succinctly describes the mindset I have been attempting to cultivate recently to heal. It always helps to hear someone so accomplished that I look up to express these concepts! The painting is also so beautiful 😊

Since I began teaching myself I've saved a lot of my failed pieces and used them as a learning tool, I take a photo of it, glue it into my journal and makes some notes on each one to remind me of where I feel I went wrong so I could look back and stand less of a chance of repeating them. When I screw up I don't see it as a failure it's just another lesson.

Thank you so much for this video! I'm always so anxious to start a painting because I'm afraid of failure only to realize that when I actually sit down and start painting, the results aren't as bad as I'd imagined. Failure is necesarry and a part of life. We can't learn without it. I've also realized that painting is like problem solving. If a technique doesn't work, you try another one until you succeed.
