@@ttaggeun9142 Exactly. That’s one thing that drives me nuts about society. They would flip out if someone came into their workplace and stole something they were working on, or selling, but they have no problem with people stealing an artist’s work. I really don't see why this is not more noticeable to people. I've even seen extremely talented people transition from traditional to digital and are very satisfied with the "clean" results they were able to get, and I couldn't figure out why they would WANT it to look like that. I've seen some people argue that we've been "conditioned by experience" to believe textured is better, and people are looking down on this "new style" because it's different. But it's not as if people weren't doing clean and simple stuff before, treating it like the end all of a medium seem completely antithetical to creativity, which I assume is why a lot of people, even within the medium, tend to wrestle against it. At least a lot of professionals seem to.

If I may, I’d like to build off of what Alpay said about the background being a boring color. In my opinion, there are no “boring” colors…but colors that are over mixed on the palette can look boring and lifeless. The great thing about a rich brown is that it’s made up of so many lovely colors. Perhaps you could try mixing those colors on the canvas instead of on the palette so that you can see hints of the individual colors that make up brown. That tends to create a more dynamic piece because your eye can float around and appreciate all the slight variations. Just my two cents. :)

I really like these videos where the artist freely expresses their thoughts. As long as they are not deliberately done for the sake of controversary, they are very educational. Even controversary is fine and may expand a persons viewpoint as long as it is genuine. So, yeah other videos like this would be great. Not as fun as watching you do a successful painting but still very interesting.

One of the paintings you roasted by saying lack of nose, lack of mouth, you must clearly define, etc. etc. I absolutely love this painting. I feel something when I look at it. Isn't that what art should be. Technique, rules, etc. are great, but if art always stays within those parameters, how boring would that be. The alien effect of the undefined features gave the painting depth and mystery to me. I suppose these critiques are more for artists and less for those who appreciate art.

I’d say it’s fine for digital art to have bigger signatures especially if it’s stuff like KPOP artist portraits that are definitely gonna be screenshoted and shared by other people in the fandom, they can find the original artist by the signature, plus if it’s mainly gonna be posted on social media like Instagram.. people don’t really go on social media on pc, it’s gonna be viewed on mobile most of the time and a small signature wouldn’t be visible at all, and if it’s screenshoted and posted elsewhere by someone else it’ll be even more blurry and illegible
@kimartist
@kimartist 2 жыл бұрын
I personally feel like artists can sign however they want - it's their art. I remember smiling when I saw Van Gogh's first name "Vincent" painted on the side of his sunflower vase. Me, I mostly hide my signatures (only 3 letters long, so not too hard to hide), or put it small & low in corners of the painting where it's actually expected to be & thus not very noticeable.
@futurestoryteller
@futurestoryteller 2 жыл бұрын
People should learn how to zoom in. Honestly if you're just going to deface something you worked so hard on because of the bizarre theoretical cross section between people who can't zoom in to read a signature (if they actually care enough) and the rare soul so much more tech illiterate, or apathetic, than that, that their way of sharing something they like is taking a picture off their phone with another phone - you might as well not even bother making anything. It's like being afraid to step outside because you could get struck by lightning. Even better are the AI tools people have shown off on this site that can erase watermarks, and the like. Think it can't convincingly erase one gaudy signature before Thanos can stap his fingers? You'd honestly be better off just "hiding" your signature in the metadata, if not the work itself. No one checks that crap, and most people will just copy and paste a JPG - like a normal person, instead of using a screengrabber, or taking a picture with a phone of another picture on a phone like a spaz, or whatever weird grandma mode we're talking about. To put it another way: the amount a person cares who made something is not proportional to the size of the signature on it. Particularly if said person already disregards any deserved credit by default. But it's not about them right, it's about the people they are nonchalantly showing your work off to. Again - if they care. Online there are much better tools available for sourcing images than an old fashioned signature. Sometimes if your name is generic or obscure enough someone more visible dominates those search results anyway. You can't hide from the lightning.

Most people who say something is overrated their ego is just over-inflated. Then again large groups of people have been known to delude themselves quite easily. But then there's the wisdoms of crowds - so really, who knows. It should depend on how strongly you can argue your opinions.

I found it weird when he said the digital art pieces had the same material for everything when his pieces look exactly the same. It's almost like the critic was extremely invalid. I would say the pieces were missing more texture and sharp edges, but saying that the materials of the face and hair where the same was straight up bs. Also found it super funny when he was saying that the random strokes people make feel cheap because it looks like they make the paintings then make the background and add strokes at the end. When he also does the exact same. The difference is that he has had more practice with shape language and composition. He does the same thing of adding cheap strokes, the only difference is that he has more experience. So again, another invalid critic

I mean just because he’s critiquing art doesn’t mean he thinks that his art is perfect and god tier. It’s a valid point as many digital artists use the same brush and same techniques for every object and material. By using the same brush it’s hard to depict different textures and sharp edges because the brush is normally soft. So his point is by no means bs, you just didnt hear the words you wanted to. Sometimes language hinders your ability to explain, everyone’s experienced it, even if you’re fluent. Also there’s the little disclaimer that states that he will use flippancy and he will obviously critique the art that artists sent to him. Idk why you’re annoyed but if I had to guess I’d say that you’re getting defensive because you’re seeing mistakes in your art from these critiques? That’s just an assumption but you’re definitely feeling vulnerable about something.

@@marlaschulze3521 Im subscribed to him and enjoy his oil paintings, I came in with a very open mind. but he was definitely sharing miss information. His critic was simply unhelpful and it wasn't just about the digital pieces, but him saying abstract imperfections are cheap even tho it's his daily cup of tea and the methods he critics are methods he utilizes. Also about the "same material issue", digital art brushes are typically hard. I see the softened image look has airbrush abuse or blur abuse. But the funny thing is that oil painting is a very soft medium. The soft look that is in popular digital paintings are considered to be oil like. It's very popular among Asian artists. Newbies, do amazing renders of the materials but simply forget to add some edge variety here and there. Materials are simply defined by the value changes and highlights not by methods of paintings like he said. AGAIN, good advice in the examples he showed would be, sharp edges, and some texture to add a sense of randomness and imperfection. It's almost like he is keeping his knowledge to himself. Or perhaps he doesn't have much experience in giving criticism and prefers to spend his time perfecting his own craft. Which is very acceptable. But saying that you need to learn a different way of painting something instead of talking about edges and texture, is not going to help anyone. It's like telling a child to use a different method when the get some math problems wrong instead of teaching them what they are doing wron. Besides there is only one way of painting, applying values with hue and saturation variations on to a canvas. If your good at one medium, you can master any medium. Because there is only one way of painting. Different techniques for each medium, yes, but only one way of painting. Also me being "vulnerable" could not be any further from the truth. It's a common thing with any hobby. If you hear someone say something you believe to be wrong, you try and correct it. You want everyone to enjoy your hobby and you definitely do not want misinformation being spread. It's like if someone said to a car person that the bigger the spoiler, the faster a car is. That would instantly get a lot of people to speak out. Also the simple answer to why people type paragraphs is adhd or boredom. Or enjoyment of talking about art. I love talking about it

I recently finished the best painting of my short painting life. Had fun, super proud of it. Sent it to a friend whose opinion I value, who said "get rid of the background: use truer colours, it's too muddy, how about clouds" it made me mad at first. I've been looking at it while we watch watch TV etc. I'm not putting in bloody clouds. I was after a certain effect and I'm going to try to achieve it..... with truer colours and get rid of the mud. Digital artists must have access to all kinds of textures. Why not have something in the painting be less smooth? Can you make another layer and see what it does? You asked for his opinion. Negative opinions can hurt and make you mad. You can toss his opinion, or you can see what a change would do, and if you agree. My friend has been painting for decades. It doesn't mean his opinion is king. But if I disagree, it also doesn't mean his work sucks. You will learn and grow and be yourself. Uniquely you. If you love how your work looks and don't want to change anything, don't ask for an opinion, be who you are, live long and prosper. All the best to you in your journey.

@@hollieharlow1129 what are you talking about. I didn't summit anything. And I said the artists should add texture and edge variety. I called it airbrush abuse or smude abuse. It's a common mistake. I think your getting the complete wrong opinion. I'm not offended. I'm calling out is false information. We both agree texture is important, but he was talking about "sameish materials" and ways of painting. Which is useless help. Also he was criticizing the random abstractions on paintings. He said It looks like someone painted the background then made strokes on the painting. "That's why its bad" but he does the exact same thing. Now again,i didn't summit anything. I don't need to. My colleagues always give amazing criticism. I'm always on the learning path

How refreshing to hear real comments about Art - so much more useful than the polite isn’t it wonderful you should be a professional artist lies - I know because I saw a load of crappy paintings by somebody the other day and told him he should have an exhibition he was so brilliant - I lied to make him smile but I don’t think I did him a favour - felt terribly guilty afterwards- love it the more brutal the better far more useful! Cruel to be kind -Brilliant brilliant brilliant- Like Simon Cowell who tells them they can’t sing and have no talent - four kinder
