Favorite Quote: "As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality. But the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master"

"Technological advance is an inherently iterative process. One does not simply take sand from the beach and produce a Dataprobe. We use crude tools to fashion better tools, and then our better tools to fashion more precise tools, and so on. Each minor refinement is a step in the process, and all of the steps must be taken."

This quote is excellent because it eventually becomes clear that he's not talking about tools in the traditional sense, but rather human beings. Yang's ideal society is a swarm of unthinking and fanatically loyal 'Genejacks', genetically standardised humans built for manual labour and dedicated solely to the fulfillment of his every whim. To Yang, humans and tools are indistinguishable. Quotes which elucidate this fact: "If you deny yourself a useful tool simply because it reminds you uncomfortably of your own mortality, you have uselessly and pointlessly crippled yourself" - Chairman Yang, Bio-Engineering technology. "My gift to industry is the genetically engineered worker, or Genejack. Specially designed for labor, the Genejack's muscles and nerves are ideal for his task, and the cerebral cortex has been atrophied so that he can desire nothing except to perform his duties. Tyranny, you say? How can you tyrannize someone who cannot feel pain?" - Chairman Yang, Genejack Factory facility. "What do I care for your suffering?" - Chairman Yang, the Virtual World.

@@theycallmedoorway9913 nah, Yang isn't just a random dictator. He's ultimate collectivist, and exists only to guide humanity into a route of such. Those who just do something for himself are dumbed by own animal instincts, and must be guided. And if he finds one like himself, they won't fight for slaves and power, but will cooperate.

Forests don't just do less ecological damage, they actually have a slight positive effect on the ecology. Yes, mines reduce nutrient output. Solar collectors don't, however. This is kind of a niche trick, and it sounds like you might already be out of room to take advantage. However, if you build a sensor array on a future base site, you will be able to build the base over it and keep the sensor bonuses. Yes you lose out on most of the extended sight, but sensors also show hidden units and give a 25% defense bonus. And since the base is on top, the sensor can't be razed unless and until the base is. Something of note is that probe teams don't require support. You can abuse this by giving them armor (you can change the speeder chassis for an infantry chassis to keep cost down). They make a great support-free defense, they don't count for military police and can't preempt or counterattack though.

@@Khono There are buildings that boost forests, but from a hidden game mechanic you shouldn't build them before you force a fungus pop. By making too many minerals at a base you can force a pop, it's a bit random. What happens then is every tree farm and hyrbid forest you build after that will raise your mineral cap by 1. So, force that pop then build the buildings, not before.

Santiago, Miriam, and Yang need little more reason than "you exist" to be angry with you. Whenever I play this game those three are pretty much kill-on-sight. The other factions of the original 7 can usually be mollified into prolonged peaceful coexistence, but eventually, everyone gets uppity with your success and wants a piece of you. Such is life.

Quill, you should put less emphasis on minimizing overlap. The fat cross gives space for 20 citizens to work, which is more than you can support until *Eudaimonia*! So you're never going to use every tile in the city's radius until it's too late to make a significant difference. Thus, for the majority of the game, a small amount of overlap is actually more efficient. Even moreso when you take into account specialists, who don't require a tile.

I also want to point out, in case you aren't aware, but seapods CAN pop alien artifacts. But only if you pop them with transport foils. So it can be worth the extra expense to pop pods with escorted transports - those bonus techs can really add up!

I'll never get over how cool it is that the leaders of the factions all have books out in this world expressing their ideology and that quotes from it appear when you get a new tech. It says a lot about the quality of writing for this game that it can intersperse quotes from ancient classics and nothing feels too out of place. It all sets a specific and thoughtful tone.

I really like the Government system in AC - it gave you a good way of fine tuning your policies. "Well, I want as much research as I can, but is there any way I can support a few more units? Maybe if I go Planned instead of Green Economy..." It made government more interesting than just Democracy/Communist/Dictatorship. I'd also always go for the Planetary Datalinks, because as University you tend to be late to develop military units. Also, it stops other factions from building it themselves and grabbing your Techs for free.

IMO tile improvements should go: Rolling & Moist - farm & solar panels Rocky - mine Rolling &arid - Forrest Wet & flat - Forrest (unless you are really hurting for food) Wet & rolling - farm and solar panel Forrest - sensor arrays. The interesting choice comes later. Eventually fungus is better than most other things. And makes you really difficult to conquer
