I was waiting for the thumbs up from Dan at the end. 😂Good video thank you.

If the system is calling for high temperature, say 65degC, does the heat pump pre-heat the flow before it enters the boiler? ie the boiler heats from 55 up to the required temp? Or is it just binary, heat pump or boiler but not both?
@AlphaHeatingInnovation Жыл бұрын
Any flow temperature above 55°c the system will utilise the boiler, however the system uses weather compensation to decide the required flow temperature. The system is a true hybrid package, so it has the ability to use both the boiler and heat pump simultaneously. This can mean both appliances modulated down to provide the required flow temperature.

Can it be wired open therm ? Thanks good video be good to see a actual install

No, it comes with it's own system which is the equivalent of open therm.

Hi, You speak of hybrid in the sense of gas and heat pump. Would I not be correct in my belief that the gas boiler could just as easily be an electric boiler, considering that gas will be short-lived?
@edc1569 Жыл бұрын
Resistive electric heating is the most damaging for the environment, a gas boiler is significantly cleaner.

At 5' 40'', Dan said the heat pump draws 10.3A of electricity. If this is 10.3A @ 230V, this equals roughly 2.3kW/h? If this is the case then to have the heating on all day, you'd be looking at around 60kW/h per day. At 33p per kW/h this would equate to £20 per day or £600 per month. If this power draw is correct, then any over unity gains of this system would be lost because of it having to be on constantly. Is that correct?
@AlphaHeatingInnovation Жыл бұрын
Hi, 10.3amps in the MAC (max absorbed current) this is the maximum permissible load the heat pump can draw, this would be at a flow temperature of 55°c. As the flow temperatures modulates the draw of power will reduce a lot, the system has been designed to offer savings against a gas combination boiler on its own.

Also, the Heat Pump is only used for heating and max efficiency is in the summer. One graph gives a mention of outside temp 25oC. If it were this hot I would not need heating so the heat pump would not be used. I think this is the biggest issue, they are selling the heat pump to provide heating over the warmer months when my heating is typically off between easter and when the clocks go back.

Hi Sergiy. Unfortunately not. This is sold as part of a packaged heat pump solution.

@@AlphaHeatingInnovation That's a shame. Adding a small heat pump to a combi is a great idea. It would be fantastic to have an opentherm controller that could handle this and work similarly to the Alpha Hybrid. Will Alpha develop a heat pump hybrid solution for existing Alpha or opentherm combi boilers?

Interesting system. Kinda get the best of both worlds and the worst of both worlds in terms of cost as you have to buy an expensive gas combi boiler and an expensive electric heatpump?
