@Alpha Gaming. I absolutely love your videos about twitch and KZbin. Backstory: I started streaming about a year ago. After a month I actually had 15 people watching me regularly when I did stream. I had the full intention of making you tube videos. I needed to take time off, and I decided this time before I go back I would start making KZbin videos too. Your channel convinced me to get my gaming KZbin channel up and running first before I start going live on twitch. I can’t dedicate a lot of time streaming yet anyways so I’m focused on getting it all set up. Getting logos, overlays, intros for my KZbin, I’m recording the gaming stuff and preparing for when I have time to become more dedicated. So yeah. Back your video. I would like to comment on your discussion about B-roll footage. I agree, but honestly I am in this huge learning phase. I listen to video upon video on tips, tricks etc while I’m at work. So I can’t always watch the screen. What engages me is people like you who can explain in such great detail what you’re talking about I can feel engaged, and I can visualize what you’re saying. The only thing I partially disagree with is the idea of “don’t worry about what you have just record and put it up”. I have to disagree kind of. I did that with my vlogging channel and was extremely unhappy. So unhappy I haven’t vlogged in two years. It made me realize I was lacking elements. Now that doesn’t mean don’t record. I would say record record and record. I think it’s best to have a list or a “checklist” of required standards your videos should have. If it meets those standards put it up. You will get better as you go I agree. However, I think you should have a standard first. This way when you release a video you know you’re going to be happy with it.

Hesitation. Took the words right out of me , I love KZbin but I lost what I wanted to make . I think he said it’s easier because the algorithm is better. Otherwise the same applies because if you have even a small audience on a different platform or encourage friends and family you can bring them to your KZbin stream and it would grow like that too.

The thing that complicates it for me is how to write, record/breakdown, and PROPERLY edit/present my VIDEO GAME information. I prefer to do tutorial videos and it feels it takes so much time, effort, and trial and error just to get out a simple video....and then that video is 20-30 minutes minimum. Which isn't the "suggested length". So many rules to adhere to and I feel lost. Thanks for this. "don't hesitate" so true. i started posting on yt in like 2012, making really REALLY bad cringey weeb content. I amassed about 20k subs within 6 months, as i was consistantly posting. the stuff i was posting wasn't the best it could have been. but it was out there- so people could see it. then the amount of subs i had got to my brain- i started posting less and less because i was worried about making really quality content as opposed to content i found fun to make. i went from posting 4-5 times a month to 2-3 times a year. i lost pretty much 100% of my audience because i started hesitating SO much. i constantly make the joke that i'm always working on youtube- for every video i post, there's 10 that i filmed and edited and didn't put up because i hesitated on their quality. i wish your advice was around when i was 15 making youtube videos in my bedroom. lol

I think the hesitation point is the one that hits home the most, I've thought about starting a channel in the past many times to just get involved within the communities I enjoy and meet new individuals yet I've always put it off due to hesitation. The fear of failing, the comparisons of quality and just all the negative headspace that intrudes your thoughts telling you why you aren't good enough. But then I just go onto random channels and I go to their oldest video, you begin to realize at one point everybody had the same fleeting sentiments and doubt. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is learning a new skill such as editing and applying that skill into different facets. Yet you won't get anywhere with it until you just do it and taking it day by day as you slowly but surely improve your quality, your knowledge on editing, your personality and presence whether it be on camera or just through a microphone.

There's this creator named struthless that I think has the perfect piece of advice here. He's an artist, but I think this applies to anything creative, including videos: "Draw the same thing every single day." What this means is pick a topic, even if it doesn't feel perfect, and just make stuff consistently in that vein. Add bricks to ONE house for a year and you'll see your progress. What happened in his case is he got really bored of drawing ibises (his chosen topic) but he stayed committed, and figured out a spin he could put on his topic to make the process more interesting. Let's say you started making videos about The Legend of Zelda every single week. But eventually you got really bored of doing just Zelda gameplays. So one day you decide to make a video about "what if [Game X] had Zelda logic?" and you like the way that feels. So then you start making videos applying Zelda logic to other games. Random example but I think it makes the point.

Great advice! Sometimes I get afraid to upload a video because I believe is not good enough but I will definitely change that 🖤

Thank you! I really struggle with the hesitation. I have 90ish videos up and still struggle with the hesitation. A wonderful combination of anxiety and imposter syndrome. But I watch your videos and try to get better little by little. So thank you!

Solid advice! A year in and I struggle with putting together better thumbnails and titles to increase my click through rate which currently sits around 5%, but I am seeing consistent channel growth, so that helps. And excellent point about audio and lighting, they make all the difference!
@spencerhoffman63743 жыл бұрын
Study MrBeast. His thumbnails can all be explained in a simple, yet compelling sentence. Basically your thumbnail should be a visual synopsis of what your video offers-- a summary that sells the content rather than just summarizing it.

Very Handy tips. Will definitely implement these alongside everything else you have advised on your channel and streams!

This is probably the best video I have watched on how to get started on youtube, I dont watch anything gaming related and I just discovered your channel but damn so much good stuff in a 12 min video! Thank you buddy! Subbed!

That hesitation bit hit real hard, I obsessed so much over my setup and quality I never thought anything was good enough, then I went live, edited a highlight reel and slammed a thumbnail on and the relief was epic

Hey Harris, the segment about hesitation really hit me... tomorrow I am posting my first video on my channel that I put the time in, thought about, edited and most importantly, one that I’m passionate about. I just wanted to say, thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🤙🏼

My biggest problem is that I don't know what type of content I want to do but your point about hesitation and that just doing it will help find the right type of content motivated me to finally start. thank you

I started making KZbin videos a full year before I started on Twitch. It has benefitted me incredibly. Find a niche, make videos for it, continue to improve. Work on your branding! IT ACTUALLY WORKS! I've been on Twitch for 2 months, I'm already making some money, affiliated, and gaining followers everyday without streaming.

I really like the tip given wrt Audio/Lighting - defo agree (and I need to work on this ...). And also talking about Hesitation. I was reluctant before I made my channel and recently became hesitant again. But the advice and reminder given has put a smile on my face. Thank you!

I think its awesome you said that you should use youtube to grow your twitch. I enjoy making videos I enjoy looking back on them. My friends actually enjoy them and thats a huge value for me. I will start streaming a bit, but thats only to advertise my channel to potential new viewers for my youtube channel. I never found streaming to be quite as rewarding to me if that makes sense. Just the whole process of youtube is nice and its fun to see your video just increasing in views after putting it out there overtime. Btw great video. I became a big Elgato fan because of you.
