TL:DW for those who don't like skipping around a video, 1: Don't sign contracts fast, ie. don't jump to the first "large" deal you get look it over and have others with legal know-how look it over. 2: Leave your face-cam on, but not if personal issues take over. Overall do what you think makes you unique. 3: Don't be a "preacher" aka don't force your opinions or views on your viewers/followers. 4: Don't limit yourself to just streaming, reach out to other platforms and sites. Do compilations of clips from your channel, get a friend to edit them for you to streamline your process 5: ??? can't count, not hating the content but I believe some people don't want 5m+ of tips.

Been living off streams for a while because of a really good contract that I actually had my lawyer remake. Company said yes, I said yes, it's been a really good year. Amazing video and it's nice to see stuff I can relate to since most of the content is to people that are starting out, and us in the middle feel kinda left out. This inspired me to use a bit of my money towards my youtube channel, maybe a nice editor could help me out :)

Harris, as a creator who is just starting out your plan five steps ahead is obvious, but something that I needed to hear. Thank you. Just the phrasing got me asking myself the right kind of questions and has provided a direction that was lacking. The 5 steps can be into a more general idea of setting & meeting goals for the next 5 days, 5 weeks, and 5 months.

If there's one thing watching these videos has taught me, it's that no matter how many people say it how often: Not everybody can be a broadcaster. I didn't even set out to make a streaming a full time job - I was just hoping to turn my hobby, the thing I do the absolute most with my free time into a little supplementary income, maybe make some more internet friends and share the journey of my gaming with other, like-minded people who might appreciate it. Good lord, I had no idea how lofty a goal that was. It's hard to take seriously how hard broadcasting is to make into a money-making venture when even small streamers can sometimes make it look absurdly easy...until you try it yourself, and see just how difficult and positively soul-breaking it actually can be. To those who do make it work...I salute you.

Well, not everybody has a georgoius face or body and like they say, 85% of the population is physically ugly and has a voice that sounds naturally god-aweful and whiney to the viewer! I give phraise to the 15% of the population that is blessed by God Almighty to have a beautiful body, beautiful physical features, and a beautiful voice that the population either loves or envies!!!! Those 15% of the people have it made and are able to do things like act in Hollywood, do livestreaming and make KZbin videos and gain loads and loads of followers, no matter what! You can say those 15%'ers are known as the Elites of the world!!!!

I started watching a streamer play a game where you need every millimeter of screen space. It's called Cultist Simulator. you place cards on a table (all virtual) and there are so many of them, the spread gets huge! the streamer isn't using a webcam and my thought is sure it would be nice to see his face, but honestly then I either wouldn't be able to see some of the cards or he'd be down space he really needs to spread them out or everything would be smaller and harder to read/follow. So for that game at least I agree.

after hearing these steps I feel both confident and overwhelmed. I don't have any subscribers and have about 5 followers that are constant watchers, I stream art and videos games on a now consistent schedule. I haven't gotten any growth. I'm too shy to use my laptop webcam to show my face, but i have started including my voice to the stream. I make sure to engage my watchers with polls about what i should do in-game to get them involved in the stream. I'm having fun, but feeling like a guppy in a pond of carp, like everyone is a bit prettier than my fledgling channel. I started watching and researching on streaming and found your channel. I integrated streamlabs, got my logo redone on Fiverr. In the steps ahead I want my artwork to be merch for the future, so I built a Shopify store and set up all the social media and bots to get it running. When I hit my peak, I'm going to run a contest to get my follower's ideas about what they'd like on merch and open my store. Wish me luck~

'spend your money on growth not equipment' - while sitting in a room filled with equipment so you can barely see the walls. Like I get the sentiment, but stream quality, camera and mic quality, if you're in the low end of the barrel can definitely make a difference in retaining viewers. Personally, if I check out a stream and the mic quality is garbage, chances are I won't spend much time in the stream unless I'm there solely for gameplay that I can't get anywhere else. Setting up a paid editor or creative workforce after just 1 month of exponential growth seems like a premature approach, I would think that saving the majority of the money while spending the next months reaching out to potential collaborators and discussing fee's and workflow is the more sensible approach - but perhaps that was implicit in what you meant and you just tried to keep it short.
@imzesok
@imzesok 4 жыл бұрын
agreed, Mic quality is paramount. doesn't matter how good the streamer is otherwise, if the audio is bad it can be painful for most people to stick around. though I feel it's kinda on us as viewers to report the issue before scurrying off. most are willing to fiddle with settings to try to get it right. a lot of the time though it just comes down to the mic itself. If nothing else we can try to get the current issue minimized. Most viewers, I find, aren't willing to provide feedback at all and that gets those of us that stream annoyed. We can't fix what we don't know about. as a PSA: don't use integrated microphones, because they are garbage. don't use a laptop mic, don't use a webcam mic. most headset mics(among these the qualities vary greatly) aren't great either, but they're definitely more often than not, better than the other two I just mentioned. You will pay A LOT of money for a GOOD mic, there just is no way around it unfortunately.
@kayreb
@kayreb 4 жыл бұрын
I think he more meant don't spend it all on equipment that seems cool but isn't really necessary...spend it on the things that will actually make a big difference...for some people that might be a better mic, maybe for others it's getting an artist for emotes, maybe for some it's advertisements. For example, if i made enough i might get a better face cam as my current one is just what's built into my laptop...or maybe a better headset than the $30 i have, only because i think those things would actually make a big difference in my stream quality tho.

There is a big difference between a $30 mic and a $100 mic, but there is virtually no difference between a $100 mic and a $1500 mic over a compressed live stream or youtube video. Cameras are no different. A $150 gopro 5 black isn't gunna do you much worse as a face cam than a red raven with master prime lenses. Shooting a movie, yes. Live streaming yourself playing fortnite, no. Spend wisely.

This is the first time I'm really cracking down on commenting. I love the advice you have given and I have made questions in the back of my mind prior to watching this video. I'm barely starting up twitch, and I have made few videos (under 3) of gameplay for this month of October 2020. I'm not sure if I do have any questions now since I'm new; I'm not sure what to expect. when you started talking about the fourth advice, I'm now mentally becoming prepared incase something like this DOES happen and especially with the growth of people. After you talking about companies who would want to sponsor you and what to look for, I will keep all of this in mind. I'm subscribing and wanted to say thank you for sharing your advice with me and others.

Personally I’ve noticed that even idle chatter is better than no chatter. Talk about your day, make silly jokes about the game you’re playing, just be silly. People tend to find it amusing.

Interesting video. I find it fascinating how people don't come to a stream for the actual gameplay, but for the chat. I streamed the other day and although a few people were into the game, the chat was talking about all kinds of games and other general discussions that have nothing to do with the game. xD

Real quick I don't know that posting weekly is necessarily required for KZbin (8:05). I recently saw a video from Video Creators who talked about this specifically. It's more about the value you provide. KZbin looks at user signals. The longer your video retains a viewer (and subsequently the more viewers watch + how long your videos keep the viewer on KZbin) the more likely they are to recommend the video because that's their number one goal. KZbin has grown to be less about metadata and more about how users use the platform. I never saw your videos recommended until I started searching for tutorials on streaming and watched a couple of your videos in a row. Once KZbin noticed I watched three of your videos in a row, they started recommending you on my home page and next to other videos more and more. Eventually that lead to me subscribing. I'm loving your videos so far, and they've really helped me take steps towards better and more serious streaming. I'm glad KZbin recommended you, because you've got the best content on Streaming. Not challenging you or anything, because I think you're right to an extent where (especially if you're starting out) quantity is helpful for growth, just not because it's best for KZbin's algorithm. Quantity helps you refine your skills as a creator (editing, shooting, etc.) because it forces you to repeat a task over and over. It also helps train your viewers when to expect a video. If they really like what you have to offer, they'll know when to expect something from you. So quantity is important, just not because of the algorithm. It's helpful for personal development and creating a ritual that your viewers learn to expect from you.

„Kurzgesagt“ is a german word. Actually it is two words. „Kurz“ and „gesagt“ which translates to short and said.
@sketchingstudio5552
@sketchingstudio5552 3 жыл бұрын
I used to mix "Kurz" (short) up with "Kunst" (art), so when I first saw the name I started thinking really deeply about it like, 'Wow, that means spoken art... like poetry. So deep, I wonder why they chose that name...' and then i realised I spent five minutes pondering about a name I got wrong. Yay?

@@sketchingstudio5552 The funniest thing about german is that some of our longest words are just short words combined. Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän. It is Donau, the river, Dampfschiff = Steamboat, Fahrt = ride (but Dampfschifffahrt is a word combination of Dampfschiff and Fahrt inside a very long word combination), Gesellschaft = society/community, Kapitän = captain. Donausteamboatridecommunityscaptain. This is actually a word. German works like this in most cases. German is indeed very hard to learn

In an older video he recommended thinking of spending money for something that will be fun for you and your audience. If you wanna buy something ask yourself beforehand: "Will this improve my relation to the viewers?" or "Can I implement this in a fun way". E.g. might be a funny wig or some nice way to put a greenscreen to use as mention in this vid.
