To be fair, it’s closer to 60/70%, besides the exaggerated numbers you’re practically correct. That being said, having access to that kind of liquidity when life kicks you in the balls can come in clutch. I’d say he got about 80ish to 70% of his money back, depending on how good of a deal he got on these boxes. I’d say Rudy “wins” in these situations, but he doesn’t really sell any of it. All in all I hope the seller was able to get the cash needed to get him/3% her situation. Hopefully it was a house buying situation and not a medical emergency, I think we can all agree to that.

We all have our real state investments, stocks, bonds, Roth IRAs, and mutual funds, even some crypto and precious metals. Your point quite literally has no merit. It’s undeniable that those options exist, however we choose do diversify in this way because we think it’s fun, different, and nostalgic. Some people relate better with collectables and nerd media than other “investment” options. None of these are worth anything and never will be. If you really want to invest in magic, you have to go to the old school block sets. It doesn't have to be the first couple sets, but Ice Age, Tempest, Urzas, etc are where the money is. That's where people have real nostalgia for magic. There is none with this new garbage.

Feel like people who buy the older sets want the opening experience of that set for whatever personal reason . Or keep it sealed and display as a capture of time. Each set has its own story to tell as far as what everyone thought at the time or so and so pulled serialized card that one time. It’s a memory to have and maybe open one day or if some emergency happens and need quick cash can sell to friend or throw online. Having an asset on hand typically earning $$$ over time is better than having cash in the bank and losing to debasement and inflation. NOT financial advice 😂

People enjoy drafting old sets. You get a whole night to experience the set by drafting and playing and you get to keep the cards for your collection. Think about drafting even a $500 box with 7 other friends. Thats $62.50 for a whole night of entertainment. Thats still cheaper than going out for drinks at a bar.

Depends on what the sealed product is. If you have a bunch of sealed retro video games, they are worth more than you think. Board games and card collections don’t have much value sealed because new versions are released and replaces the current product.

Players can't play. Please understand that BEST case scenario a business is making 30% profit on new inventory from distributor. They buy it for $100, they sell it for $130. If they can't sell it for at least $115, they go out of business. Overhead exists. Please stop vilifying small business owners that are trying to pay their workers and their mortgage because you want your hobby for free.

I ama retro game collector, and have very recently learned the a similar lesson. Maybe not exactly the same, but the truth is, when i come across a good condition game that I'm only half interested in, even if I've spent a lot that month already, and dont even really want the game, I'll regret not buying it months later. Likewise, sometimes i see games that are almost the condition i want, or are the condition i want but the price is too high, and I have to be patient and not buy. I have begun to recognize when something is an opportunity that, even though it doesn't feel good now, makes sense and i will be glad for later on. Likewise, somethings are buys that even though it feels good now, doesnt make sense and is ultimately wasting (potentially a lot) of money, because I will come across a cooy within a year or so that is properly priced inna glod condition. I had to learn this the hard way, but Im learning. It also requires discipline to keep focused on the hobby and search, a lot of time, and emotional discipline which I think really has to be learned by experience.

Too bad there were no comments about the Unfinity box. That is a story of a set that went to crap. Although, I do not think that anyone had much hope in it even though the Galaxy Foil shock lands were supposed to save it. Paradoxically ,it probably would have sold more if they just made all the cards silver boarder except the basics and shocks. At least the whole fiasco with stickers and attractions wouldn't have been a thing.

I do, but you won't like it. Do not collect new product. It's worthless and probably won't be worth a dime for half your life, if ever. Buy the old block sets that people have real nostalgia for. It doesn't have to be Alpha/Beta/etc stuff, but at least go with older stuff like Ice Age, Tempest, Urzas, etc blocks. That's when people still liked Magic overall, and there weren't 10000 sets released every year.

Buy sealed at good prices. Look at what Rudy is showing - a lot he got for ~70% of it's value. If he has unlimited time these will go up in value and will find sellers. You don't want to be like the guy who sold this stuff. He probably paid MSRP, didn't hold long at all and sold when he had financial problems. You need to sit on these for way longer for them to gain value. These boxes are finite, and people are cracking stuff all the time. The guy who said don't buy new sets is dumb. If you can get a good price on them do it. In 50 years it won't matter if a box is 10 years older or newer, it will be a 50 year old box. Basically, buy low, and wait aong ass fucking time, and don't let the time get the best of you. Stay solid and don't puss out. If you do, your plan sucked to begin with

I'm here to comment that, I've been watching Rudy's videos on and off since 2016.....when i first got into MTG.....and that he RUINED MY......ha ha, only a bad dad joke. No, I wanted to say I've been watching since 2016 and I never considered it anything more than light entertainment. If I ever spent any money, it was something that I was already looking at / or I ignored Rudy in entirity and just made my own decision.
