Absolutely agree, Luther! Being true to yourself is the ultimate goal. It’s so easy to get caught up in what others expect, but living for yourself is way more fulfilling. What’s your advice for staying focused on that path?

as a recovering-niceguy I can recommend one thing: learn to say no to things you're definitely not going to do or do not agree with. It's a step towards becoming yourself rather than a false image you present.

I think of being sincerely kind as putting yourself in another person's shoes, and imagining what I'd appreciate others doing. For example, at the bar, I always bring my empty glass back to the bar, because if I were the only person working the shift, I'd appreciate it if customers did the same. As a kid, in Church, they told us that being nice is putting on a facade, but being kind is being empathetic and showing genuine love.

This is such a good point!!! I always believed there has to be something thats fits well with that well know "bad" nice guy as we know it. Good observation.

I've knew several genuinely good men. A doctor who had a patient who couldn't pay for the surgery. He still did the surgery for no cost, and helped pay the hospital bill. All without making it a big deal, and without telling anyone. I had a toothache and went to a dentist. He filled the cavity in 20 minutes. When I asked how much, he said "No charge, you're a friend". Authentically good men.

It’s about balance! Here’s a standard I’ve got for my own masculine vibe: one minute, I’m gentle, generous, calm, tender, kind, and empathetic… the next minute I’m raw, untamed, intense, passionate, powerful, and savage.

True story- Had a first date planned. I picked a restaurant and even had a table picked out. When the girl arrived, she said she wanted to eat somewhere else. I complied. When I asked her out on a second date, she said no. I asked if theee was something wrong (also a weak move). She told me that I didn’t stick to the first restaurant.

Funny, that's exactly what girls say they like about me. 🤔 Apparently I'm 'very nice' (or just a fake, phony fraud 😉), but at the same time 'very masculine' (or just a fake, phony fraud 🙃). According to girls 'a rare combination'. 🤷 Didn't know what to think about it first (because of the negative 'nice guy' association and all), but nothing wrong with that, I guess. 😎 PS: I'm wearing Gisada fragrances for years. Great for layering as well. 👀👍

A man doesn’t care what a selfish woman thinks. A man serves others first. In the community, in the armed forces, at home. He has served in City Year, AmeriCorps, the Peace Corps, the Marine Corps…in law enforcement, as a teacher, a nurse, a doctor, a volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He is focused on getting closer to Jesus Christ, the Lord Our God. Yeah, it’s not easy to serve others first, but it’s the only way to live a life of purpose and meaning. To achieve sustainable happiness on earth. Signed, Lieutenant Colonel, USMC (Retired) now a marketing executive who helps others at scale
