How to zero and shim the DNT Thermnight thermal / digital day and night scope

The DNT Thermnight is a multispectral sight that combines thermal viewing with a colour day image and infrared at night - it also has a laser rangefinder and ballistic calculator. It’s a great optic for airgun pest control and the zeroing process is easy once you have it mastered.
Here, Rich Saunders shows how to zero the DNT Thermnight TNC225R. His detailed demonstration on the range also shows how to shim a scope mount when you run out of vertical adjustment on the elevation aiming point. Knowing how to shim scope mounts can prove handy when zeroing any thermal or digital riflescope or normal telescopic sight.

Great video thank you,, I shim my Optical Scopes this way also, I leave the turrets at zero then shim and try get as close to zero as possible by shimming,, Then I use the turrets to get the fine tuning at zero.

What would be really handy would be there to be web page with the different data for the heights of barrel to scope needed for the ballistic data for the most popular rifles also the bc of popular pellets from say 11fpe to 11,8fpe as the bc changes with that difference

@@nicksamsunggalaxys2404 there’s no need for that because you just adjust the scope height so your new poi off the ballistic calculator is correct closer than zero then adjust your bc for any range beyond zero. I’ve had different makes of scopes with ballistic calculators and the bc was different on both scopes using the same rifle and same ammo you just have to fine tune ballistic calculators no matter what 👍

Rich have I got this wrong, you say that with the Ghost 25 moa rail plus the DNT 20 moa rail is too much. But you then increase this even further by adding shims to the rear of the rail. Why don’t you just swap the DNT 20 moa rail with the DNT 35 moa one.

You mean the 0 MOA rail from the TNC335R? Yes, that would probably work, but its an additional cost. Buying an adjustable mount would also work - as I said in the video - but again an additional cost.

@ Rich the point I was trying to make was that if the cross hairs won’t adjust down to the impact point then you need a greater moa not a smaller one. Me personally if I paid £2,600 for a rifle combination another £40 would not be the end of the world. Please don’t think of this as a negative comment I just disagree with you saying it needs less moa when you then increased the moa with rear shims.👍

Thanks very much. I believe only the TNC335R and 635R come with a 0 moa and 20 moa mount. The TNC225R comes with just the 20 moa mount. At least mine did.

You could probably get away with reversing the Ghost Pic rail to cancel out the 20 moa. Definately worth a try :-)

Can you not just freeze the image again and drop the reticle down a little bit more? That would he much simpler if its even possible

All you needed to do was spin the picatinny rail on the ghost round so the moa was running the other way instead of shimming

Yes, that's true for the Ghost but I was hoping to make a general point for all rifles/situations where you run out of elevation adjustment.

@ I think your rail on your ghost is already on the wrong way because if you had 40 moa your poi would be high if your x and y were on 0. If it isn’t then there’s something seriously wrong somewhere

I don’t think this is the right way to do it to drop your scope level height . look at your scope cross hair ? drop down to your left. and it is not in Centrepoint aim
