Hobie-Wan Kenobi casts a variety of lures with the Daiwa Alphas SV TW.
3/8oz chatterbait w/ trailer
1/2oz Ima Skimmer (topwater)
1/16oz shakeyhead w/ 4in worm
1/4oz Rapala Shad Rap
Bladed Swim Jigs (Chatterbait) was used to test the power, vibration resistance and skipping ability for the Alphas SV TW. The line guide and other parts can vibrate with bladed swim jigs, which can be annoying.
Topwater lures can casue issues with line managment on reels when reeling in slack line, same with jerkbaits.
1/16oz shakeyhead was chosen to test the Alphas SV TW's ability to cast light lures. This is not a BFS reel and was designed for normal bass applications.
1/4oz Rapala Shad Rap was chosen because it is a really lightweight lure that can have issues casting with wind. I can also test the power of the reel under some load while digging the crankbait into the shallow river bottom.
Full breakdown video coming soon!!!
I got my Alphas SV TW from Japan Tackle. I ordered on Dec 21 and got the reel Dec 26 (Dec 25 being Christmas). japantackle.com/casting-reels...
I hope this video helps you out. Comment below for any questions. I will help you out.

Love that we can count on you to give an honest opinion on the new Daiwa stuff. I own a couple of the 'old' SV 105HL's, and those are sweet little reels. I really wonder how the new Alphas will fair with, say, 15# fluoro for finesse jigs and swim jigs and the ilk.
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 3 жыл бұрын
If you arent casting really far, 15lb FC with jigs should be fine. I would go with the 8.1 as you will lose retrieve speed when the line volume decreases at the end of a longer cast. The spool is more narrow than most so, the capacity is dependent more on depth of the spool than previous reels.

I just got the Alpha SV TW. I was testing it with a weightless wacky rig senko. It doesn't cast it as well as my Curado 70 MGL. I'm going to try it on my crankbait rod for tossing 1/2oz cranks. It's a solid and smooth reel. Seems to have tighter tolerances compared to my Tatula SV103s and Elites.

In your opinion, would this be a good reel for casting Ned and Neko Rigs, as well as weightless Senkos? The Alphas SV Shallow Spool version is about to launch soon, and I'm trying to decide if I should get this one, or wait for the other to launch and pay the additional $50.00 to get the shallow spool version. I have BFS reels, but I'm looking for something that is somewhere in-between my MGL 70's and my BFS reels.

@@HobieWanKenobi Thank you for your response! The Curado and SLX are definitely on my list of reels to buy. My interest in the Alphas is because, as a Shimano guy who only only has one very old Daiwa baitcaster, I am extremely curious to see how well their SV system works. I'd love to be able to throw a Ned Rig a respectable distance, turn right around and throw a 3/8 or Half ounce Chatterbait, and skip weightless plastics with a little more ease in tight quarters. My MGL 70 struggles a bit with lures around .20 total ounces, but I can skip a weightless senko like no one's business on that thing! Wind is definitely a problem though because I run my reels VERY loose.

You may have to adjust the cast control knob (Zero Adjustor as Daiwa calls it). You should have the smallest amount of side to side movement in the spool when you press the thumb bar (like you are casting). You should be backlashing on setting 0 unless you use your thumb a lot.

@@HobieWanKenobi Without Twing SV is a joke compared to SVS infinity. Given the 32/18 spool spec, I hope some smart guys out there make an after market lightweight SEMI shallow spool with similar braking system as the Air. I get a feeling it will outcast Aldebaran 30. And if half filled, probably outcast Aldebaran BFS as well. Such is the power of spool spec and T wing, But I suspect it is only good for sub 1/2 ounce lures, we have 34mm spools for heavy lures anyway. Thanks for your informative videos.

The problem with Daiwa and Shimano is every month like an iPhone, they introduce a new reel. Instead of just having a core set and update / upgrading them, they come out with something new constantly. It's super confusing, trying to figure out what is what. They are all nearly the same anyways with exception of the BFS's. Worst part, in a few years try getting parts. When a company has 50 different reels made within 5 years, good luck getting parts. Take my 25+ year old PENN Baitrunner. I can easily get any part and PENN still makes that same reel, just an updated version.
