B:" I will tell you what to do, when you don't have access to a yoke." Me:" Just take a barbell, easy." B:" DO NOT load up a barbell and carry it on your back!" Me:" Of course not, who would do that, dat shit's dangerous!" .... I have incorporated farmers walks with dumbells and overhead walks (whatever they are called :X) then and again and that already challanged my core real gooood - will try those barbell-chain carries! :)

Well you are definitely getting out in front a little bit man. you may be thinking about picking the bar up instead of spreading the floor. But you are pulling Sumo and I would be lying if I said I knew much about that method. If it was conventional, I would say that your are not using your lats enough, which I think still applies, but I also think a stronger brace would keep you from breaking when you are applying force with your legs. Wish i could help more man but hopefully that points you in the right direction.

Brian- not sure what weight to start these at. Been using 400 total and running them about 50 ft. Just using them as conditioning work right now but would like to see some carryover to my comp lifts- squat and deads. Also, I plan on trying an amateur strongman sometime this year and not knowing much about the sport don't know what weight they use ( 231 weight class).
@BrianAlsruheOfficial7 жыл бұрын
Well man, though I hesitate to suggest anything because i don't know what the other demands in your program are....But the 231 class is what i compete in and i can tell you that most of the time, our yoke weights are between 700-750. Sometimes even up closer to 800 for 50-60 feet as fast as possible and top guys will get that covered in like 6-8 seconds. Some people can move with that kind of weight like there is nothing on their back!

Brian Alsruhe that's true, any tips for the pull? Could I send you a vid over Instagram and you could help me with the technique?

Quick answer: No slack AT ALL in the rope, Stay as low as possible, "Squat" the weight to break the inertia, short choppy steps, move your hands faster than your feet and build momentum trying to accelerate as you go. I hope that helps man, but sadly I don't have the time to critique people's videos too often. I literally get like 50 of those a day

I recently had the experience at comp not having my 800lbs yoke 4"-6" off the ground it made me drop it 5-6 times. Still finished 80' in 44 seconds but if I didn't drop it I know I would have done better, live and learn.

It is the WORST when you are half way through a contest run and you know you have the height wrong. Nothing you can do but hope you finish...

I didn’t have a heavy sandbag to do 50ft carries so I did the yolk walk instead.

Brian, I didn't believe when you said the body cant handle Heavy yokes. So...today was my 1st day ever training with a yoke. What did i do? Well...ill tell you. I loaded that joker up with 506lbs and beasted for about 45 min. 4 hours later and now I feel like I've been hit by a cement truck.

Great video as always brother. Supermaximal loading on different exercises is a great thing for basic barbell lifts or any other assistance movements, everything feels light after plus it builds tendons and ligaments as well as core and teaches the bracing under ultra heavy load. Sad thing for me is that I don't have a strongman equipment nor can I find it in near area, either to buy my own or build it. But my go to supermaximal weight lift is above the knee rqck pull, simmilar lift to an old school strongman move: hand & thigh lift, but little mor ROM. Few days ago I did 800lbs x5 and was smoked after('rack pull flu' 😂)but every other lift feels really light after that. 😅

That is awesome man and i am proud of you for finding a way to make progress! And I totally agree with you about the supermax loading!

Brian Alsruhe Thanks brother. Thats why I like strongman stuff, strength is more than just big 3, and testing it in variety of movements and with different objects should be more accurate strength scale. Plus conditioning aspect.😆

First, I see the benefits (and fun) of stone loading/training for powerlifting, so I put that on the list of must haves. Now I need to get a yoke as both a yoke & double second "rack." This is bad, really bad.... for my wallet, lol. This is one of the more exciting strength channels on youtube. Why Brian hasn't hit 100k subscribers yet is beyond me.

You said that the yoke walk fries the CNS. How do you program it so that you can properly recover?
@elliotyamamoto387 жыл бұрын
Peter Marx don't do taxing lifts the next day. I like to do some tababta or HIIT on the days after heavy lifts or not train at all.

I would agree.

And there are too many other variables to take into consideration. So i can't give a cookie cutter answer. That's why I said in the video that you are going to have to figure this out by trial and error because each person's demands are different.

Brian I did heavy yoke walks and have a large lump on my trap above my AC joint now. I'm not worried about it, but have you seen or heard of anything like that before? Google is returning less than adequate results. I'm guessing it's just a huge muscle knot or inflammation.

Best assistance exercises for soul? I want to do yoke walks but I'll need to program in some assistance exercises as well to hit my weak points. I was thinking something like 3*5 prayer kneels, meditation (to failure), 1*5 Bible memorization, and watching every Brian Alsruhe video, but I'm worried that volume might be a bit too high.

Hahaha be careful my friend, just make sure your recovery is on point!

Hey Brian, Do you always put your yoke carries on a specific day (Like after your squats)? Or do you move it around days? Same question with Farmer's Carries! THANKS!
