Actualy I think in your conversation with Dave Tate you said that multiple time you and others wish they can start again after some injury even with empty bar (heavily paraphrasing). It kinda sparked the idea to start again.

A spinlock barbell is like ten bucks. Cut the threaded part and stop collar off one side and cut the threaded part off the other side leaving the stop collar on. Load standard plates down the handle just like a shoulderok and secure them with a standard 1" barbell clamp with no risk of the plates flying off. You just paid 15-20 bucks for a mace with a knurled handle.

My life consists of throwing around bales of hay, bags of horse feed, fixing fences, & lifting a reining saddle onto a 15+ hand quarter horse (I’m a small female). Normal weight training at the gym helps, but I’m taking up aerial acrobatics as a fun way to strengthen my core & challenge my mind/ body. I think training with sandbags & kettle bells will also help with my lifestyle.

That sounds amazing! You are already doing a lot of weighted carry/sandbag movement patterns so Ariel acrobatics sounds like an awesome addition!

I've got my plans for next year. I'll be working towards my purple belt and getting better at striking. By the end of the year I want to bench 140kg, squat 180kg, deadlift 200kg and press 100kg. Oh...and hopefully avoid the orthopedic people. I might have to buy a consult as I would like to add some strongman stuff into my lifting but not sure how. Merry Christmas to your family and the puppers Papa Brian.

@@TOM_OUTDOORS I have done my best at 88kg. 240 DL, 140 BP, 90 MP (100 was there but I didn't like very slight knee bend), 185 squat. I was also stronger than this but due to an injury I decided to not check my maxes which was a mistake as the injury needed time to heal but checking maxes wouldn't change anything. Hope you get your goals. I will try to beat mine as I know I was better than that already.

My training purpose for 2025 is to not freaking diet and just embrace the bloat. I have so much potential that I've struggled to realize because I get butthurt about how fat my face looks and will crash diet like 60lbs in 2-3 months. So I end up spending a good half of the year just recomping and rebuilding the strength I lost on that cut. I've got my first strongman comp in January, never competed in anything and I have a feeling competing is going to change everything for me. I've had more fun training axle clean and press, log, stones and sandbags than I ever have in my life. It's just all new and exciting, and funnily enough it's actually making me so much stronger and well-rounded. Always soft locked my hips on deads/squats, and the triple extension required for stones, sandbags, throws, log, and axle have been a game changer for me. I had strong glutes, but only in their lengthened position, never did any full hip extension work. Turns out that's what was causing my debilitating lower back pumps over the years anytime my bodyweight got past ~275lbs. Feel like a beginner again, training is fun, making noob gains as an advanced lifter, or maybe I was just an intermediate all along haha either way I'm having a blast and am super optimistic about what I can achieve next year :)

The reasons to train....don't let the old man in...as soon as you let him in, life becomes hard/harder. A big fear isn't dying but living the last 20 years of my life who can't walk or go up stairs or wipe his own ass, etc, etc. Also, I'll likely have grandkids in a couple years and I soooo look forward to it, but i want to be present more than just that I'm alive but i want to be present for those nature hikes/walks with them...going fishing...playing catch in the back yard, etc. Also, medical bills are expensive AF! so staying healthy is key to limiting those medical bills!

On the things you would change about the Bruin boot, mainly the steel toe.... Jim Green out of South Africa has some "barefoot"/zero drop options that have a lot of similarities with the Bruin. They have the Barefoot African Ranger, which is arguably more of a durable shoe -- and then the Barefoot African *Trooper*, which is a full height boot. Unfortunately neither come stock, off the shelf with a steel toe, but Jim Green has a custom boot builder that people have used to do just that. They have a zero drop steel toe last (that you can actually use to custom build any of their boots). It'd be pricier to go that route, but it's one of the few options (maybe the only one) out there that might be exactly what you want.
