It seems like AlphaZero is the only one with a plan while Stockfish is just moving back and forth not knowing what to do. Magnificent game!

1:36 AlphaZero offered his Bishop to be taken. So bizarre. I often see AlphaZero give up a pawn to keep a bishop pair. And he often navigates with them very well and turn this compensation into an easy win. I don't get why he gives up the bishop here. I thought the idea of AlphaZero is to keep bishop pair if possible. This is just counter intuitive.

It looks in this game like AlphaZero uncovered a weakness in Stockfish's eval. It's reminiscent of how weak programs used to play - you'd give them a long-term strategic game with no tactics to munch on, and they would be reduced to shuffling pieces back and forth. The way White executed this game-long plan is also reminiscent of players like Karpov or Kramnik.

Yea AlphaZero exploiting SF's eval is a major theme throughout their series. The way it works it's much more able to see long term value that Stockfish misses.

Kramnik plays very sharply just before retirement and also very optimistic about his position which lead to exciting games.

It also seems that stockfish has it hard to eveluate open possions with manny peices left on the board and it is there wear Alfazero exelles. Just look at the possion in the game were alfa is exchanges down, but the pieces are beutifuly placed in the middel of the board. I cound be that stockfish toungt he has winning there witch so much material. But no.

I like those "do your homework" moves from A0. Moves like 22. Ra2. Chess is just more aesthetically pleasing, if everything is mobilized and harmonizing. Also they have this great charme of making the game look easy. Only few human chess players have truly mastered the art of making their great victories look instructive and trivial. It is hard to play like this, because there are always so many other things going on. But it is always a pleasure to see someone build up the position with straightforward ideas and a bit of care, and succeed brilliantly with it. Of course it gets more intricate later on. Oh and it looks silly how traditional engines try to maneuvre in positions with no clear way forward. They just don't, they just move back and forth.

Ok, Alpha-zero has clearly shown that traditional chess algorithms based on game theory and brute force search are quite inferior to others based on Montecarlo method in conjunction with neural network models. The next important challenge is to develop a comnercial version of alpha-zero, able to run at a reasonable speed on a laptop or desktop pc. There is a huge amount of chess knowledge that only alpha-zero can unveil. When this knowledge will be made available to humans the next, and maybe the final one, chess revolution will begin.

I like how this guy can scold stockfish, just because we have a better chess player in the room. So all of a sudden stockfish is demoted from god level, and all of alpha zero moves are golden.

John Brown he has reviewed games where alphazero loses. Just because a player plays well or badly in one game doesn’t say anything about their overall status. Carlsen loses games and his moves have been questioned; doesn’t mean he’s not world champion worthy

I still find games between humans much more interesting.. The fact that you can get tired and you need to maintain your focus , concentration and creativity is what impresses me.. Machines don't have to deal with that
