Superb scenery with good camera work, thanks for the tag along. Years ago, while hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, I wish I'd had my license and some QRP gear. I now have an HB1B and snagged a Palm Pico paddle and a QRP Guys antenna. You appeared to be using a KX3 with an American pocket paddle. What antenna are you using?
@K6ARK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! The key is a homebrew model. Rig is a KX2. Antenna is one of my homebrew EFHWs shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qV7CfayemayUpq8

@@K6ARK Outstanding...You're a true QRP ham! Of course that was a KX2. Now there are so many great trail transceivers. I'll subscribe and follow your adventures. At 73 years old, I'm more a POTA guy these days. 73, KZ5MSE

Hey Adam ... Great video with some great views! What antenna did you use?
@K6ARK3 жыл бұрын
I used my mini EFHW on this trip. I generally prefer the 9:1 unun with 41 ft random wire with the KX2, but the EFHW performs well too.

Great video Adam and shows what Mountain Rescue need to keep doing to ensure hill fit. I am learning CW and even managed to pick up letters in that part!! What was your antenna this time? Cheers Gary

I know the cameras can really give a false impression of terrain features. Were those climbs as steep as they look?😲
@K6ARK3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is technical rock climbing for many parts of the climb. Some sections are nearly vertical in short spurts (20-30 ft) and more extended segments are around 45 deg +/-. Falling is not an option for many of the climbing sections, so you must be skilled, confident, and constantly assessing risk and deciding if you need to down-climb and retreat.

Adam, fantastic video! I truly appreciate the effort you are putting in your video productions. I am set to finally get my license next month. Just two quick Qs: Why not try ssb on hf or fm on uhf to activate (it seems 2m is the way to go)? which ht and antenna are you using? vy 73 Leo

I could understand free climbing when I was young but now that im creeping up on 50 stuff like that scares me a little. Ha. I don't know why because the older you get the less you have to lose life wise.

I like my arms and legs to hinge the way they do now. Not looking to add any more 'joints' of any kind.
@K6ARK3 жыл бұрын
Ha, yes, climbing on terrain like that requires experience, practice, and risk-based judgment constantly. I don't climb up anything I can't comfortably down-climb. Bailing out back down the climb is always an option if I'm not confident and comfortable on the terrain. With practice, you can learn to manage risk in that kind of terrain and can make it quite safe.
