Amazing review. I cancelled my order months ago as the dealer didn’t have any timeframe for delivery. My current sort of versatile jacket is Stadler Modul Active. Not perfect, but it sounds like I wouldn’t have been better off buying this one. The water pocket not being breathable is indeed a stupid idea.

Stadler's stuff is incredible quality, but generally isn't designed for North American coastal levels of heat. Assuming you're talking about teh Superior Active, a friend of mine ordered one in up here, and even in the fairly temperate north east he found it quickly overwhelmed. I've got a Held Carese Evo on the way - which seems to split the middle. Better venting then Stadler if not the same quality (and made in Europe), but has a more packable Gore over/under shell. Not as meshy as the A*, but should be better finished. We'll see!

@@cblais19 the Carese Evo looks nice, but I wish they gave it a mesh back like the Acerbis X Tour / Clover Dakar / or the new Bogota Pro

@@gbner9991 what I find matters way more is how they design the interior mapping to work with the vents. I’ve had multiple “back window” jackets that didnt vent well because they failed to use 3d mesh for the protector pocket & the back protector blocked most of the air from escaping.

Great review of the 2 versions of this jacket.... You make a compelling reason to stay with the "normal"/old version, What is the difference on the "R" model of the pants, just super fabric in a few spots? Hard to tell, even on the Alpinestars site.

I haven’t had the pants in person, and likely won’t, but the diff seems to be the super fabric overlay at the knee & the vent pivoted to run under those added pockets.

Great Reviews about the AMT-10 Line! What would you say are the main reasons, you prefer the AMT-10 jacket over the R-version? Are you still happy with those jackets and are you still preferring the AMT jacket without R?

The R just adds complexity and weight. I'm not a fan of a million pockets, the shell is a lot bulkier to try and pack away, and it's not as flexible. My ideal would be the "normal" 10, but with some ripstop nylon overlays on the sleeves to take a gravel hit. I also really dont like the lack of ability to snug the armor into your elbow. With the amount of stretch material and slightly loose fit, it feels like it wants to displace away from the joint. As a result, I've sold my "regular" one, and have the 10R up for sale as wel.
