This was really helpful, especially with the accompanying PDF and product links. I’ve used the KLIM products for years (I swear by the Agressor numbered layer system, especially for both cold and extremely hot track riding. The minus-numbered base layers are a must, not only for comfort but also for aiding in removing leathers.) I have some Mosko Moto luggage and related gear, and will now use your links to add clothing for a planned long trip through Alaska and Canada this summer. Much appreciated!

Ian, another great review video. I am a Klim guy and have a couple of suits and I have never had a water leak in any of them. I am a real fan of Goretex. I am also a fan of Smartwool products. Not only do they not stink after a couple of days, they come in different weights, so you can adjust as the temperature changes. I am a So Cal guy like you and live in the desert, so I get to ride when it is cold and when it is hot (I have aslo ridden to Alaska twice with rain, snow and hail and magnificient weather). One of the things I do in the winter is to ride with bar mitts. I have them for both my dirt and street bikes. Allows me to use a lightweight glove with more feel and they are easy on and easy off.

Ive had my Klim Overland gear for about 10 years. Holds up extremely well. No rips tears or holes. Keeps me warm and dry all winter here in CT. One of the best investments ive ever made. Was expensive to buy when I was in my early 20s but was well worth it!
@RayzGarage

Good video, but what about some of the less expensive stuff. We all can't afford Klim and Mosko. How about a second video on products like o'neill, fly, fox for the guy that put a lot of money into his motorcycle and has little left for protection
@RayzGarage
@RayzGarage 2 ай бұрын
Don't forget Tourmaster (or other). I'd put their $200 transitions 3 all seasons jacket up against any Klim for 1/4 the price. Same Denier material, armor, YKk zippers, armor and multi layered. Klim and Mosko, and other high end stuff is inflated in price to create a quality looking product. I also buy the previous years product 400 dollars less. That just goes to show how much markup they have on these items

@@RayzGarageprobably should find another reviewer’s video. Ian is known for his high quality reviews without shying away from prices. Dork in the road is also an awesome reviewer who will give you an honest review for the ordinary man on entry to mid priced gear. Thanks for this great review! Based partly on your jacket recommendation and wanting the versatility that comes with layering, I went with Klim stuff - Marrakesh with Zephyr and Forecast and base layers and a heated liner I already have, to make it a 4-season setup. This works well and is all-day comfortable to wear, plus these layers compress down to tiny bundles and together take up 1/2 of my 2020 Goldwing top case.

Hey Ian, these comprehensive breakdowns are always interesting. As somebody who uses and loves the revit proteus, I'd be really interested to see if you can get your hands on the Revit Nucleus. It seems like it's a new product and there's not a whole lot of information about it. It looks like it's basically a revit proteus except it has abrasion resistance so it's CE AA rated. This really caught my interest as that's the same rating as the street jacket I often wear over my proteus on the way to the trails. There's also not a lot of reviews online for it either. Also for what it's worth, you mentioned the axial balaclava. I've actually been pretty impressed by the axial wind blocking leggings. For the price they're pretty effective. I've been wearing them under Mosko Moto surveyors even in 40 degree weather and they actually do a solid job for the price.

@@Shadow9091And there's pando Moto with AAA shirts and pants. Again like the Bowtex, I'm not a huge fan though as they are tight to skin and despite the stretchy mesh type fabric, things held tight to the skin still don't allow much breathability in hot weather.

Some onion and chopped spinach and a little butter, lemon squeeze, and black pepper. Until you next time, thanks for the content.

@bigrockmoto Great video as always ! Hands down the best Moto content producer that's honest and useful. With regards to this video, did you just see the new video from today that Ryan F9 released about the myth of CE body armor ? Would that change anything that you recommended in this video?

FWIW, I have now come to the conclusion that for 1) pavement riding I will wear my tech air 5 airbag vest underneath my Baja S4 (with the armor removed) for best upper body/torso protection and abrasion resistance. 2) for my off-road riding, I plan to wear my Adventure Spec super-shirt armor underneath a Klim jersey or Basilisk jacket when needed. Fo the pants, for off-road riding I love my Mosko woodsman. But for pavement riding/touring, I find my badlands pro pants too hot, so Im currently yin the hunt for a good spring/summer/fall pants that's comfortable - base don your video Im thinking about the Marakesh pants

I have yet to have much luck with Klim gloves. Each pair I have tried the stitching fails at the seams anywhere from 500 to 1000 miles of typical to heavy use. I agree with the Mosko Moto Rak jacket and pants. Most versatile pieces of kit I own for adventure travel off-road and much more. I have used them for backcountry skiing and mountaineering and they have held up much better than some of my dedicated Arcteryx and Mountain Hardware gear.

Thanks for throwing in the more affordable MSR stuff! While I'm sure they're great, most of us simply can't afford a Mosko Moto or Klim anything, and have to make do with Amazon knock-offs.

Protip: for super cold neck protection, the Appalachian Gear Company makes an alpaca neck buff. They also make base layer tops in alpaca fiber. Alpaca stands alone in the performance category. It can get wet and still retain its heat. It doesnt stink. Its expensive and not as durable as a synthetic textile. Also have all of the tops, the blanket and beenie made by Appalachian Gear Company. Its all great stuff and is super popular amongst the long distance backpacking and bike packing communities. As soon as moto campers and adv guys see how great the product is, it'll be popular in this niche community also. Id recommend people check out the Appalachian Gear Company youtube channel to familiarize yourself with the positive attributes of the alpaca fiber

Agreed on the Klim Socks -- they are comfortable but there is zero odor protection. Oddly I found the best bet for hot feet are the extremely cheap Noru riding socks. I bought half a dozen pairs as they aren't super durable, but they are great!

Hello, Nice review, thank you very much for the effort you put in. I am currently looking to change my Icon Airflite, terrible helmet for long rides due to it being very noisy. Got to test the Klim krios pro, Arai xd4 and Shoei Hornet Adv. The Klim feels like I am wearing a square cardboard box, and the other two feel very comfortable... It would be very nice if the helmet manufacrers would have all shapes.

Ian, love your content. Just one missing piece for me here and a topic I would love to see more of your thoughts on which is Air Bag protection. For me, they don't make the Air Bag I want yet (if they did it would be the Tech Air 5 with off-road algorithm and dual cartridges), so I went with the Klim AI Rally in the meantime. I appreciate the peace of mind (I think) I get with added impact protection and think they are probably the future given we see them as mandatory in Rally and GP racing, but with obvious applications at the ADV and even at the commuter level.

Hello Ian, for your next clip about gear, or update, try to include Adventure Spec gear. They are aimed more to the BDR (TET) kind of stuff at the moment, but they are very high quality (up there with Mosko & Klim or even better).

@@BigRockMoto Nice vid. My bias is mesh jackets. I have a Klim induction. I feel that they really are the do it all, protection jacket. Cold out…layer up under of over. Rainy…layer over. But when it’s not super cold, or rainy, why wear all that protection when it’s not needed. Some will say, because you then have to pack those items. True, but I can pack a warm base layer and rain gear into a pouch that weights very less than 5 pounds. I would also advocate for being open to using non Moto products that just plain work really well. Socks: I have used many over the years and have found that Darn Tough makes the best. They are big in the hiking and winter sports crowd. Just awesome socks. Base Layers under that mesh jacket: A puffy coat that packs up into something the size a small book. I have a Patagonia nano puff that weights almost nothing, and is super warm as a base layer while riding and/or a jacket to wear when you get into town and want to lose the motorcycle jacket. Rain gear over that mesh jacket: Frogg Togs. Cheap, packs down, works.

My observations. The Klim Raptor is better than the Mosko Basilisk. The Rak is cool but getting it on and off is a pain. The Adventure Spec Baltic Hybrid is for me the gold level mid layer. Low insulation on the arms to prevent snugness with elbow armor but enough insulation in the body. I love my Ectotherm but it’s too warm sometimes, even when off. The Adventure Spec Linesman pants are the most comfortable pants you can get for riding. The entire thing is stretch. It’s like a Marrakesh jacket for your legs. The Mosko Graph is the best all rounder base layer for me. I would love a long sleeve version. Klim Tactical Pro pant is the best bottoms base layer. Comfortable, breathable and includes armor and ass padding. Klim Tactical Pro Jersey is better than the workhorse. Flows air a little better but doesn’t look as good. And I’m done but could go on for a while.

Regarding the Klim Windshirt: I considered that for under my Baja S4 but went with Klim's Resilience jacket instead. It has two hand pockets and feels like a much better garment for just a little more money. It packs down to nothing. Nice video Ian.

I’m not sure you’re aware of it but fox makes dual sport / adventure gear. They have two lines. the cheaper line is called defend and the more expensive line is called recon. It’s really nice gear that has a high end feel to it. Nobody has more experience making riding gear than fox.

I am fan of the channel and I very much appreciate the content, so thank you. Two , I hope, constructive comments : products on the list seem very American based. There are brands like Rukka that need to be mentioned for cold weather. Revit or Held are also quite good (I see you like the Sand). For instance Held Samba are very good gloves for summer. Same with Alpinestars,Richa, Nexx, Touratech,etc. Is a pity that there is a feeling of rush in the video. You obviously put a lot of effort and time on the classification but then is presented very much in a hurry. Maybe two videos one for hot and one for cold weather would allow you to explain a bit more each product. Finally, I know you are not sponsored by anyone but presenting such video wearing a Klim outfit may send the wrong impression to people unfamiliar with the channel. Thanks for the valuable information, I will check a couple of products.

I went with the 2nd gen of the MSR Xplorer. I’m an athletic 6’1 200lbs and I originally got the large and it fit me well on my stomach, chest and sides but was very tight across my upper back. I exchanged it for an XL and now I’m swimming in it. But it’s an adventure jacket and meant to be baggy so I’ll just have to deal with the extra material. I’d rather have the room to fit multiple layers than just one hoodie or thermal
