Great review. Just bought this jacket having used my Alpinestars Bogota for years. Thanks especially for explaining how to access the armour pockets. That information wasn't supplied with the jacket so I'd assumed it couldn't be replaced/ upgraded.

Just bought this jacket. I’m 5’7” with a 33” waist. I had to buy the XL as the Large was just too tight around my chest. The XL fits my chest perfectly with the back protector added. Just bought it yesterday and so far it’s been comfortable and warm on my first ride with it.

Hi, I'm an ebike rider. Usually bike riders don't need this level of protection. I've wiped out on a pedal bike with no pads at all and walked away. But my ebike is upgraded to go 40 mph and I feel like, at that speed, I can justify an entry level motorcycle suit. The PNW is wet, and our road are mostly unimproved. I'm also getting armored undershirts for the summer.

Next up is, I have to see if I can get put on a list to buy a pair of Tech 7 Enduro Drystar boots when they become available in my my size. Heck, I might just go for a pair of Toucans instead.... Gore-Tex is goood... :) Thanks for the great videos, Brian and crew!

I wasn't too sure between the Andes v3 and the new Halo. The Halo is a lot more expensive and doesn't have a insulated liner but it's good when it's warm. The Andes cost little money but doesn't offer great ventilation when it's hot outside, it has a insulated liner. For hot days I could just wear my Icon Mesh AF and switch over to the Andes v3 when the temperature drops... Why spend more really. The Halo is pretty cool with all it's tricks but what a jump in price, it's almost at the same price as a Rev'It sand 4 H2O. Great reviews 👍

This is designed to be used as an all season jacket. You would need to remove the insulating liners and open the vents. While it will not be as cool as a full mesh jacket it will keep you cool when air is moving through the vents. - Van

This jacket can be used as an all season jacket. It has direct to skin ventilation which will work to cool you down in the summer and plenty of insulation for colder rides. IMO the only season this will struggle in is the hot summer. The ventilation in the jacket will help but it will not be as cool as a mesh summer jacket. - Van

Thanks for the vid. Are the shoulders and elbows armor removalable. I looked at an Andes V3 Drystar jacket just recently and couldn't find any pockets for the shoulder or elbow areas. In fact, it didn't seem like there was any armor in them - what I could feel seemed like no more than 1/8" (less than 5mm) thick. Thanks.
@sportbiketrackgear9 ай бұрын
All of the armor is removable, we show how to access it later in the video at about halfway through. Armor has come a very long way, this stuff manages impact better than the older stuff which is much thicker. - Van

@sportbiketrackgear3 жыл бұрын
Well that really depends on where you live and how you ride. This for sure could be used in all four seasons in many states and for most riding. As the temps climb into the upper 80's + while this does have reasonable ventilation it will not vent as well as a mesh jacket. - Van

Hi Brian. I’m a big RS TAICHI fan and was all set to purchase the RS Taichi Drymaster Frontier All Season Jacket RSJ709 (wish you had a video reviewing this jacket!) and RS Taichi Matrix Over Pants RSY547. Then I saw the new Alpinestars Andes V3 Drystar Waterproof jacket & pants. Now I’m torn. I live in the Bay Area, California, so our temps year round can vary drastically. What is your take on the choice between these two options? I’d really like an all-season set but I do have other gear I can wear deep into the summer. Thanks in advance!
@sportbiketrackgear3 жыл бұрын
I hate to say this but I have not seen the Taichi jacket and pants you are referring to in this comment which makes it hard to have a real opinion. That said I really like what Alpinestars has done with the Andes V3. This jacket will be pretty solid at most temps but as expected will lean towards the warmer side when the temps are very hot and the best bet is a mesh jacket. - Van
@patrickmc74862 жыл бұрын
Does this jacket run on the hot side even with the liner removed? That seems to be my only holdback, I’m worried it might be too warm for summertime.

Any jacket that is warm in the cooler temps will be a little to the warm side when it is hot outside. For hot summer riding the best bet for cooling is a mesh jacket. - Van

The pockets are large enough to replace them. Personally I would leave them as I believe they will get the job done if you have a fall.
