ALPINESTARS Tech-Air 3 Leather Vest IS DANGEROUS

The (magnetic?) sensor that lets the ECU know the vest zipper is closed is not strong enough to pull itself toward the sensor causing the vest to not turn on. I have tried wearing the vest over my motorcycle jacket, as to provide more force to the sensor, but that doesn't work either.

Same thing with my (textile) tech 3 airbag. Mine was vibrating during the ride, stopped to check, but it was blue. When I opened it it did vibrate but when I took it off and turned it to put on a chair, it deployed. Returned it to dealer who send it back to Alpinestars. Got it back after 3weeks with processor and battery replaced, but I regularly have the same issue of not turning off when opening the vest. I have to turn it off with the app. It then goes amber and shuts down after 15’. I have to return it to dealer again. Not very reassuring these electronics. Was in doubt to go for the mechanical Helite but went for the faster deployment, even when still on the bike, but I have bad experiences with electronics. Unfortunately my doubts were correct…

how did the Canvas version work out for you?

I use the Tech Air 3 standard and it works quite well, from time to time I have to close it twice but you get the vibration feedback. Also a benefit of the standard vest is, that you can see the status LED all the time. But leather looks much better :-)

Have not seen that issue on mine. But I do not have the leather version.

@@ben_3256 yeah my comment didn’t age well. I’ve been having the same problem but if I just take a few extra seconds to make sure everything is lined up when I zip it up then it’s no problem. Definitely shouldn’t be as hard as it is though. It’s just one extra annoying thing to deal with

Have you reached out to Alpinestars? If there is an operational issue with your vest or with the design of these vests in general, it would benefit everyone who has purchased one that may not be aware of the issue to make Alpinestars aware of what you're experiencing. They've been designing vests for MotoGP for over a decade, so their not idiots in the airbag game, but manufacturing mistakes do occur.

I did. Customer service guy didn't want to hear any of it and I didn't want a $700 vest that doesn't work correctly so I returned it to CycleGear. I posted this video for everyone who is thinking about purchasing the vest.

Damn I literally just placed an order for this vest with cycle gear. I’ll definitely look for this and see how it plays out. How do you like your new vest.?
