Currently recovering from a crash where I had head to toe gear on. Dainese leather armored jacket, motoport armored pants, shoei helmet, and Forma riding boots. Still broke collar bone, shoulder blade, rib, and both bones in left lower leg. Hit the ground somewhere between 30 and 40mph avoiding a vehicle that came into my lane and didn't hit a car or any other objects. I bought my vest in June, it was one of the first in Dallas where I live. A few weeks later riding in the mountains of NC, I rode off onto a gravel shoulder. When I stopped my foot slipped and I dropped the bike. I ended up sitting on the ground, and my vest inflated. Not good. I’ve spoke with a Dainese dealer and they say their airbag is the only certified as airbag while the other are just “protector” because obviously they have the back protector certification. He also said that their technology is the way to go due to the construction of the bag. Imagine inflating a ballon and try to punch it hard while holding it to the desk, inevitably you will end up with your fist smashing the desk because the air inside the balloon will move on the side of your wrist, instead with the Dainese technology the balloon is stitch together so that the balloon can not transfer the air volume to the side of your fist. Apply this to the airbag technology and you will think that they are actually right. I’d like to know your opinion about that! I hope you understood me

People saying it’s expensive: consider the lifelong injuries and pains that you may keep after an accident. I have one from snapped collarbone. Alpine Stars customer service is terrible. Just dealt with them over a problem with the Tech air 5 and a jacket. My impression... fuck you Alpine Stars!

$700 is a lot.. That's more than my jacket, gloves, boots, and riding jeans combined.

As Troy said, "how can you put a value on your own safety?" If you think $700 is too much, that's fine. But this is an investment and can be worth it tenfold. Imagine getting injured and having to be hospitalized, unable to work etc. How much would that cost?

$700 is getting into the range of affordability for most riders. Most people's medical co-pays are going to be twice this much, if not more. That said, I'd like to see this tech get down into the $500 range.

Hehe, same here. 100 jeans, 250 helmet, 150 boots, 90 gloves, 120 or so jacket. I'm just not there economically to buy stuff like this, I would invest in a better jacket first, then better armor for the jacket and pants or an inner shirt with armor (tight on the skin) But I do love that tech is making riding safer, I can't wait to see what it's like in 10 years.

Oh, an while I don't enjoy the hospital or being useless at all, I have insurance. Not sure how/why people ride without insurance that covers all of these with very low deductible.

$700 is a bargain compared to the cost of entry to get the technology otherwise. Before this you had to buy an $1100 vest than a $500+ jacket to accommodate it. Now you can take the jacket you already have (crappy or not) then throw this underneath and you've got protection on par with the riders participating in the highest levels of racing who are able to crash at speeds of 120mph+ before getting up saying "ah darn it I crashed again" and shaking their head. P.S. If your insurance deductible is less than $700 congrats and you probably don't live in the U.S.

I wonder if the EUC can discriminate or learn different uses. Like if you want to use the vest while on quad, or an electric unicycle. Or even something like a snow/ice sled. I don't like the idea of the app and tours, everyone is doing this, so as a rider you can end up with multiple apps tracking your route. This ends up being invasive and unnecessary.

You don't have to use the app for the airbag to function.
