I have this head unit and enjoy it very much. The only complaint I have, is I wish Alpine would release an update (if possible) for some creative home screens. What I mean by that, is a nice optional default dancing spectrum analyzer display with different color options. I am VERY surprised Alpine put no effort into having some type of INTERACTIVE default wallpaper displays. Considering such an amazing clear and colorful screen. I think it would look absolutely amazing with a VU spectrum analyzer, and or even some analog VU meter options.

I just installed one of these in my 02 F350. I had seen that this unit has a feature where you can swipe up or down on the screen with two fingers for volume control. I can’t find how to enable this. Is this possible?

Get a 5 channel amp. I have the same car but the middle front speaker is not working. Is very quite on calls. You may be able to fix with an additional amp but it’s starts to add up.

I have a lowered car and love the front camera to avoid hitting parking curbs, but I have to be able to push the button fast when I’m pulling into a spot. I wish this until had a cam button like kenwood for that reason. Cameras have to be fast to prompt while in action. Not going through a menu.

Fortunately my friend told me that you can touch the screen to change the volume up and down. Or that you can hold the home button to change the screen brightness. Or did everyone know about that?

I had this unit installed in my girlfriends 2015 xterra. I bought a new HD camera for the rear and auto start set up. I had to take the truck back to the installer 3 times because they kept forgetting to hook up the external usb port that connects to the center console or it didn't work. As of now, the stereo doesn't seem to be grounded because we hear a faint hissing/humming sound continuously. I tried turning off the unit for some silence and the only off choice I can find is turning the display off which still creates the hissing/humming sound. The sound from the stereo is worse than the factory stereo, I don't think the installers included the built in rockford amp. We also can't select randomize songs using a thumbdrive, that function doesn't work either, even when it is selected. When listening to the radio, the main display shows the station and other random station buttons and time, very boring to look at, we don't even get to see the name of the song that is playing. We will not be going back to the stereo installer (car toys), as it takes them a whole day each time to even look at why it is humming. We assumed they used a defective unit to install.

Not sure if this is the proper forum to ask my ? regarding my unit which I had installed back in 01/21 in my 2012 Ford Escape. Loving the sound and versatility of this system but I’ve had 3-4 occasions when my unit has ‘shut down’ (usually I was using it in phone mode, on an actual call) and emitted a very loud, irritating buzzing sound? I was unable to end my call or turn the unit off? I ended up either pulling over, turning off my truck engine and subsequently restarting to ‘reset’ the unit (and stop the buzzing sound) or the unit eventually ‘times out’ and shuts down on it’s own after 1-2 minutes. Pretty strange and while it doesn’t happen often, when it does, ouch my ear drums LOL! Thanks!

I just had the same thing happen to me today during a phone call. The buzzing was so loud I had to pull my truck onto the shoulder of the freeway and shut the power off ASAP. It was borderline dangerous!

Yup! Happened to me right after it was installed and the stock answer from Alpine is to download the update on a flash drive and install it on the unit-I still have yet to get the “update” to download to the unit…very frustrating convo with Alpine-absolutely no help unless I want to “send it back and they send me a remanufactured unit”- yeah, wait, I’ll send you a brand new unit, leave a gaping hole in my dash and wait for you to send me a unit you “fixed”? lol! What BS I’ll never buy from Alpine again-junk

you should make it so we can change the background and starting splash screen various alpine and many other radios like alpine are able to do so why cant this one whats the point of being able to load an image off a usb but not being able to do anything with it also screen mirroring many other radios can you just have to be parked it would be nice to have that feature the main one id like is having access to change the splash and background screen ive pretty upset with that part of my ilx-w650 radio

The cam has to be wired to your back up lights to make it work when in reverse.

Google Maps is part of CarPlay. If you have an iPhone you just need to have the Google Maps app on your phone. It will then show up when you’re iphone is plugged in to this unit using CarPlay. I assume it works the same with Android Auto.

On the amp? As in a power stack amp attached to the back? Turn the gain down. On your deck? If it's from a built in source, go into settings and find the input gain adjustment. Turn it down. If it's an external source(phone headphone jack or something) turn that down too. Also check you haven't got all your bass and treble maxed. If you have amps, turn the gain down. Volume knobs go both directions 😂

i tried to get used to it i just cant,the lack of features baffles me,anyone interested in a mint condition alpine w 650,$250 still has the factory screen film,i plan on going back to pioneer unless i can find an alpine that offers wireless car play,youtube and gives you factory maint screen with tire pressure,rpm a 0/60 timer,air temp sensor,any help??

Sorry to hear you are not happy with your 650. If you are looking for wireless CarPlay and expanded features though I would check out the iLX-507 unit. I think it will have everything you are looking for and more.

The alpine ilx-650 sucks I've had it for 1 year installed on a 2004 gmc sierra and the double din radio has been nothing but problems from the screen deciding to go haywire by opening random apps and settings to the whole radio just playing a high-pitched noise and going to a frozen screen while driving... talk about a distraction while trying to drive

When it is out of park half the feature will not work because alpine does not want you to be distracted during driving. There are things you can buy to be able to use it when it is out of park

I have been using Alpine for years, But this time they played a dirty trick, if you buy just the HU your only getting half the radio, This thing clips out at between 20-25 of 35 on the volume scale, Thus forcing you to buy the additional power pack to get decent sound out of it. shame on you Alpine This is something you didn't know and isn't mentioned in any of these videos.

Weird that people are saying good things about these paperweights. Maybe if you’re a seasoned non audiophile but THIS HEAD UNIT SUCKS! First I had to buy a 12$ bypass for that stupid e brake cable. Without the BYPASS you can’t even access the Bluetooth to connect. Honestly who the hell watches movies while driving? Second, it is WIRED CARPLAY and the preamp voltage out of the RCA is only 2.0 fully cranked to 35, where the internal amp starts to clip after volume 20. Under 35 nothing for rca voltage on the sub out. Nothing fancy, just your “basic bitch” of the head unit world. Hopefully I can get someone to respond over at Sonic Electronix, they also have shit customer service.
