Excellent review! I use mine for ultra cycling rides so I’m usually so tired I’m not bothered by the downsides and think the side entry is excellent. I agree a hoop at the feet end would be a great addition. I paid £109.99 in May 22.

This is a good bivy, however with a few tweaks, it could be great! 👍

I have this bivy and has served me well on my bike packing adventures. I must admit your certainly right about raising the head , perhaps to another 6 inches tho. I use a trekking pole to raise the foot end of the Elan with a guyline attached to the hoop.. in reducing condensation, I personally use a army poncho over hanged over the Alpkit bivy, works wonders. I personally have not experienced condensation. Manage also to get my bag down inside the bottom end of bivy. Mind you, I am only 5ft 8 inches tall. A honest great review Richard. Summed up the bivy well.

Thanks for your comment. I have a few friends that own this bivy and they have all echoed your thoughts as well. Condensation has been a factor for most of them I understand, but in saying that, they love this bivy for the price!

Ive recently bought the Elan. Good effort by Alpkit. Love the side zip. I agree the head is too low. I think the head could be raised up with a trek poles to save weight of poles - this would allow for larger head area and insect net. For me, I don't need raising at the foot end, but I'd like it wider at the legs becos I move my legs a lot in sleep. I dont peg it out. In extreme survival poles aren't needed - just need a bag to get into and close up. I guess like most bivvy bags it's for the person who's going minimalist & wants some sleep - not for "living in" like a tent

Spot on again. Now Snugpak have gone silly with their pricing, this becomes a consideration......but the Geertop Plume 2, as far as design goes, leaves them both behind I think?

agree re Geertop plume 2....I have one and think its a fantastic bit of kit especially for stealth/cycle camping......only thought would be if it were in a breathable material there would be no competition- ever!😀
