Great "teapot" stance for your selfie, lol. That was great Joe, loved it. Covered getting on for 400,000 miles by motorbikes in my life, so I'm a massive fan, for those who don't ride it's like flying without leaving the ground, literally! Get yourself a largish microfibre, one of those with a long finish on one side and smoothish on the other side, run it under a warm tap at the end of the day, wring out the excess and just hang it over the front of the helmet, leave for five or ten mins, then you'll find the flies etc wipe off with virtually zero effort and you won't damage the visor with excessive rubbing! You can employ the same method for the motorbike screen, obviously rinse it under the tap well afterwards to get rid of the flies, lol. I know the roads in the alps are pretty good but don't fly up to those bends with big drops over the other side and at the last minute realise there is either diesel or gravel right in your braking zone, it's honestly the best way to test your sphincter response! No room for error on these occasions unlike a car with double the wheel count! Rucksacks can prove very uncomfortable over long distance, a tank bag is a seriously good investment for touring, you can charge your gear in it while on the go, easy access to your wallet, camera, tickets etc, you can get quick release versions and totally waterproof expandable versions too, they are superb! Hope I don't sound like a smart ass and I'm not trying to lecture, I know you're a smart cookie! Really hoping you keep up the bike content, I think you're already hooked on biking. PS there is a new(completely new) GS being announced in three days on the BMW websites so watch that space. All the best, ride safe! Cheers Tony.

That’s a good day 1 benchmark distance for anyone trying this type of trip. We find the ferry less tiring as you can rest for 90 mins, the tunnel makes you wait longer& is always behind schedule so makes little difference shore to shore.

That was great, thanks Joe. Really good to see you on a bike and looked like some tidy riding skills! I bet you've had some tips from the entire biking community! It's doubtful better camaraderie exists anywhere than on two wheels. My tip? Riding solo, I would mount my luggage on the pillion seat - brings the weight forward and lessens buffeting. Once did just over 1900 miles in three days - never again! Looking forward to part 2!

Another great video. Most people underestimate how challenging it is to do long distance on a bike, nevermind on the "wrong" side of the road. Well done for completing such a great journey especially considering how new you are to riding. I have mates that have been riding for years and don't have the courage to ride on the continent. Hey Joe. This was a great video. I really enjoyed the video and your take on Bike Videos! The best thing to use for removing bugs are sanitizer wipes. Just found your channel, great video 👌 As a new biker (test last year at age 69) I came for the bike content but not so long ago I would have been here for the cars . I have done a few euro trips and alpine trips in a 911turbo with some other loonies and a few times in a motorhome (just a few weeks ago). So, now it has to be the bike`s turn, right ? 😁 Planning a F1 GP next year .... Monza or maybe Spain. Looking forward to more of your trip. Subbed.

Looks like a wonderful trip. I did something similar about ten years ago in my mk1 TT roadster. Stayed in Valloire on my second night having come over Col du Galibier from the south. Great scenery. Have the same beemer. These can be standard distances in Oz, so comfort is king. Black helmets (versus white helmets) can add 3-4 deg C interior at 15 deg C.
