After meeting Karen and Doug at the ALS Walk in Scottsdale (2014) we were fortunate enough to work with Karen McMillen and her family and friends to create this beautiful documentary to educate our school and others about the effects of ALS.

How is this the 7th worst disease? I truly believe it is the number one worst.. I was diagnosed Nov 2018 . Watching yourself waste away is the most awful way to die. You can fight all you can... as you should. But "ALS" ALWAYS WINS!!

RikWCrlsn: I fully agree with you, I think ALS is #1 worst disease. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Can I ask what were your symptoms that prompted you to get checked out? Thanks.

Maybe CRPS is known as the worst disease in the world. But i have no idea whether CRPS is worse than ALS.

I am so afraid i have this. If people dont have family to care for them they would have to suffer in nursing home. You would not be cared for properly. I would look into euthanasia.

satatas91 me too I’m waiting for a diagnosis, even with loving family to support me I wouldn’t be able to cope. I would hate to be a burden. I know I sound selfish. Just being locked in not able to communicate, watching your family suffer too. Love n admiration to sufferers and caters xxx

Seeing these documentaries, I see the path forward for me and they help me prepare. I'm lucky, I have no financial issues, have a wonderful Long Term Care Plan I initiated 35 years ago, as I have 1 son and realized if I ever was disabled, I'd otherwise be a burden on him alone. I watch these with my present caregiver and now have a plan, as I meander towards the need for more care, to move into an studio apartment in her same complex. She and her husband are wonderful people to me and being physically closer helps her in having less travel time. It's all working out and I feel that being part of a successful going forward plan relieves me greatly of the anxiety I use to feel about where and how I would be in the coming months and possibly years. Quality of life is assured. Thank you for reading, this is my perspective and though I am certainly not happy with this outcome, I feel prepared and in control of hopefully a long glide home. Many Smiles to you and your's.

I too found the piano music unnecessary & drowning all speech, with everything that ALS brings people need to 'hear & listen'.............I too am living with this despicable disease, it has stolen my whole life.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend named Bob. I met Bob when he was in the advanced stage of ALS. What was so sad was that he was completely sharp mentally, and knew he was dying. He communicated with the assistance of a computer. He would crack jokes, and one of the things we enjoyed was our 24hr. trivia game. We would take turns giving each other tough trivia questions, and the other would have 24hrs. to find the answer. I was there when he passed away 10yrs. ago, and I still miss him. I just wish there would be some medical breakthrough, just something, that would lead to a cure. Anybody reading this who has has been affected by this disease in any way, my heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to you.

that is a great freind, they haven't come far, but the great thing is they have help w caregivers, home help, that didn't exist when my fad passed from this horrible desease n the hospital had only 2 breathing machines n they gave my dads to another patient n he suffocated, he was found on floor, he was paralyzed, so that meant he struggled to breath n used his head to try n seek some help m fell off of hospital bed , just sad n horrible, now they have more advancements n technology, through awareness, it's horrible, he only lasted a year, you were a great freind.may Jehovah God psalms 83;18 , bless you until u are reunited w your buddy in coming ressurection soon john 5:28,29

My brother's wife was diagnosed about a month ago. It's going to be tough. He has to work to keep the insurance up and pay the bills. He just arrived at retirement age and the kids just went out on their own. They love cooking and Happy hour and their deck and pool.

finn bell no God didnt give him als. God created this world and man perfectly, but bc man disobeyed God, the consequence of that was a fallen world and human race. this introduced sin and death. so it was man's fault, but God offers true healing and forgiveness through His Son Jesus and the gift of eternal life. think about what that means.

+ Lidya Lu I am sorry for your father's suffering. Sorry to break it to you so bluntly, but even *IF* there is an omnipotent god/God, he/she/it does/did not care about this unfortunate woman (or about your father for that matter). The ones who care about this woman are the people who are helping her in this PHYSICAL WORLD, and not some imagined friend who lives in a cooked-up dimension.

@@yevodee4024 Well your sadly mistaken. The afterlife is very real! Heaven and hell aren't fake either is God. Her Dad received healing in heaven and there is no hope like that! You can see it in the way Christian's have hope when a loved one passes!

May God be your comfort and strength through this. I am thankful you have a loving family and friends who care very deeply for you. I would love for the Lord to heal you and all affected by ALS and any terminal illness...I don't have ALS but do have many health problems that I have lost certain abilities I use to be able to do with ease and now it's a struggle....I do miss those days when I was healthy...I loved helping others too that brought me alot of joy now I have to depend on others for help...it's hard to accept...I hope all the best for you...a miracle :-)
