Time zones and not making teams constantly travel all across the country every week is why conferences still exist. It’s also easier to build rivalries and narratives within conferences. The east would look a lot better if almost half of the top players in the east weren’t missing so many games at the start of this season. The east is also a more physical conference, which makes injuries more likely and makes high-flying and high scoring games less persistent.
@urbaindelva7869Ай бұрын
Injuries and underperformance have been the main roadblocks for the Eastern Conference this year. However, that is also due to a number of Eastern teams either making some changes (Knicks, Hawks, Pistons, etc.) or just rebuilding. I think that it will start to pick up when some of those teams become healthier or find their rhythm. 26:02-27:53 I agree with Alex that Russ did not "ruin" triple doubles, but he did devalue them with the way he got them and the impact (or lack thereof) it had on winning. Players like Jokić, Giannis, Luka, and LeBron probably don't see the need to average a triple double even though they could if they tried to; they could also do it more efficiently in the natural flow of the game while probably leading their team to more wins compared to Russ. Also, Russ could've done other things that would've been more advantageous for OKC that year: shooting the ball better, more consistent defense, getting his teammates involved, and smarter decisions on the court overall, which were big criticisms of him at the time.

The East is definetely weaker but there's a lot of underperformers who'll even out the difference when they get going. I have zero belief in the sixers but they aren't bottom of the conference bad. Knicks , Bucks and Heat will get better with their stars carrying them. Hopefully young teams out of the East like the Pistons , Hornets , Raptors and Nets can correct this lopsidedness in the next few seasons. Also the Magic are a decent team and learning to win without Banchero so when he's back they'll be a top team as well.

A single semi finals appearance (even if you get swept), gives a bad GM the excuse to stay for another 5 years. It can give an aging highly paid superstar, the excuse to get another 3-5 years extension. Just cancel this East-West thing, and allow only good teams to compete, even if most of them are from the Western conference. It's sad but, the way it is now, the worst team available, might be lucky enough to reach the finals, just because of injuries and pairings.... 🤔

Triple doubles are a result of usage, not more talented players and doing away with size and rebounding. Any superstar can get a triple double in the right system. Cade Cunningham got three straight this year and one tonight. He’s playing specifically to get a triple double. Micheal Jordan had a 11 straight triple double streak, that was intentional. Double digit points is a given, get your assists and rebounds(mostly uncontested )early and you are likely to get a triple double if you are ball dominant.

No, not any superstar can get a triple double in the right situation. They have to have the game, the opportunity, and the willingness to do it, and many of them don't have one of those 3 factors. Jordan and Cade are just some of the few who can get triple doubles off of game and opportunity alone.
