As an Albertan Canadian, I would prefer that this laddy to concentrate more on how to work w/ all other Premiers and the Prime Minister in order to open economy to east and west, to start building more refinaries w/ Carbon capturing system, as we already have in Edmonton, to start building LNGs on both Canadian coasts for exporting gas to EU and Asia, etc. By the way, I am working in O&G, and I totally disagree to sell heavy oil down to US to maintain their refining industry. It happened in the past to work on both pipeline projects, Northern Gateway and the East Energy pipelines. Both are sitting now on a shelf. By this time both pipelines would be in service. Another thing is the rail lines coming out of the fraser valley are usually heavily loaded going east, but not as much going west. They could probably move a lot of oil by rail. I don't know if there would be a shortage of tanker cars but there again could be another avenue to start building them and creating good paying employment for Canadians.

Several years ago an American petroleum company discovered oil in Norway's offshore region. When they wanted to do a deal with Norway, the Scandinavians said 50/50 and wouldn't budge. The American company pulled their resources and returned to the US in a huff. Within a year they were back and signed an agreement with Norway to share 50/50. Consequently, Norway in 2025 has a trust fund worth trillions. And the consequence of that is wonderful highway infrastructure, free healthcare, free education up to one degree and many other subsidies to citizens otherwise unobtainable. Canadians need to do the same. We need to stop giving away our renewable and non renewable resources just to make the deal and begin standing firm on behalf of all Canadians, not just the corporate world and it's shareholders.

@leegrant7333 when US oil refineries were first build decades ago, they were made to refine the type of oil Alberta makes. Back then the US made plenty of that oil, but those wells ran dry. Those builds would cost hundred of billions of dollars to retrofit to accommodate the plentiful oil the US now produces off shore. So it was way easier to buy Alberta oil cheap then to rebuild. What Trump is doing is forcing the hand of US refineries to spend the money to retrofit their plants to allow the refining of the oil the US now produce. It's a long term plan for him, but one that will bring full autonomy according to him. If you do enough research, you clearly see what his plan is. Smith's trip was a waste of time. She is focusing her energy in the wrong direction.

The Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMX) cost Canadians C$34 billion and the terminus port in Burnaby, BC still ships about 85% of its crude to the United States. Where are these overseas markets to diversify buyers? If you can find other buyers for TMX crude that would be helpful. We also have a major LNG project in Kitimat coming on-line. Alta Gas and Vopak are well on their way to shipping liquids. There are Coal Terminals South and North. Grain Terminals South and North. Container ports ship Alberta goods, like beef, Canola, wheat, etc. Alberta companies built the Alta Gas LPG trans-loading facility at Ridley Island, BC. Yaddah, Yaddah. There are projects all over Canada supporting the Alberta economy. We, as Canadians, buy a lot of Albertan products. I am tired of the narrative that "Canadians don't support Alberta." I am sorry you feel that way. Other provinces that also produce oil and gas did agree to provide a united front against US tariffs. We continue to support Alberta even with this rhetoric so "help us to help you".

The only reason the federal government built TMX is because they shutdown everything else and added regulations that caused even the TMX owner to back out of twinning the line. Get real. Ottawa has taken over 600 $billion more out of Alberta than it has out in over the past 50 years. That is by their own calculations. Has been reported on endlessly.

What this premier does not understand (or perhaps she is not willing to tell the truth) is that consumers in the US do not benefit at all from lower-cost oil coming from Alberta. The oil shipped from Canada goes to US corporations who refine it and sell it at the same price as the oil refined from US suppliers. How daft do you think people are?
