I lived right there in that general area and this is evil. These people cannot trust the powers that be. They want to protect what they have left. People cannot show human decency? they want everybody out plain and simple. The same thing has been on going in North Carolina and East Tennessee. The Amish are very good businessmen and have the advantage of 'know thy neighbor' as part of their culture. California is a right to property state so technically nobody can be forced to leave their property for a mandatory evacuation but that doesn't mean that if one chooses to stay that they can't be restricted to their own property relying on just themselves. Mixed feelings. People died not following evac orders, dangers still aren't secured in the evac zones and there have been plenty of times those demanding to stay have ended up finding themselves in bad situations where they suddenly demand others endanger their lives and save them, not all missing have been located and all the extra movements of extra people in evac zones can hamper efforts of searchers and cadaver dogs to locate people, people want to naturally protect their possessions, etc. That being said, when fire took my small, ag community it was locals who chose to stay and join our few firefighters operating dozers, running water tenders, filling firetrucks and tenders from their wells and reservoirs and even telling firefighters not to worry about their properties because they would take care of them and focus on other areas and we were allowed to work out an organized system where supplies could be passed to them at roadblocks so it seems something should be able to be worked out.
@kimleone549612 күн бұрын
I understand why the police don't want people coming in because they could open up the neighborhood to looters, but if people have IDs and there's a city / police officer presence at the entrance, couldn't that solve the problem? I think what could be done (in the future) is have a handful of people in the community OR the city leadership to be community reps. These reps could also know who the elderly/disabled are (in each neighborhood) and be the contact to help get these people out when evacuations are called for (they would know who they are).

This went on for weeks. School recess was held indoors because it was not safe to go outside and breathe the air. I remember walking to my car and there is a gray haze everywhere. The local gov suggested for people to wear masks outside. Mind you, we are not talking about 15-20 miles away for the fires. Canada is not a stones through away from where I live If one come put two into together, staying in these areas are a safety hazard. If you’re not affected today, you will be affected tomorrow. Gather essentials items and get to safety. Others may need to know that you are all right. Information most useful to long term recovery is available at one of the recovery sites (Pasadena or Westwood). Why was the food drop set up in that location? Was it for first responders or people left homeless? If so, maybe the homeless are now gone so first responders now leave, help station closed. If it was set up for people still living in houses then they shouldn't be closing it. It's hard to belive anyone would stop people still living there from going to a store to buy supplies. If services are off in the area they may be following old laws that might say houses in the city must be connected to utilities, water and sewer. If so, is there a way those restrictions could be lifted during a disaster?
