This is one of the few recordings that gets the tempo right for Alte Komaraden. Others are almost always too fast. Also, thos exemplifies the technique of playing the upbeats slightly behind the beat, which adds a distinctively Deutche swagger to piece. I LOVE it when they do that!! Bravi.

Germany wrote the best marches, hands down. How glorious it must have looked watching the columns marching in exact step to these marches, a sea of flags waving in the sun. Germans had too, the best uniforms. What they do, they set a standard to envy. This music is soul stirring. Gives one a rush. :)

Jordan Avalos. After obtaining independence from Spain, the newly formed Republic of Chile tried to reorganize its military structure.The Chilean Army admired the Prussian Army which was very successful in the Franco-Prussian War 1870/71. This led to the appointment in 1886 of Captain Emil Körner and 36 Prussian officers and NCOs to train officer cadets in the Chilean Military College. Capt.Körner quickly consolidated the growing German influence in the Chilean Army which soon gained such a good reputation that Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and El Salvador, between 1903 and 1913, requested Chilean officers to assist in the training their armies. The army's service and dress uniforms , drill and weapons resemble those of the German Imperial Army of the late 19 century. Prussian march music became very popular and is still being played in military parades. Cadet corps of the Military Academy still feature a pickelhaube ( plumed headgear) of the type worn by the Kaiser's Imperial Guard. The shape and model were similar to those of the Kaiser Army (pattern 1891 and 1895),used by the Prussian Guard Regiments. The Imperial eagle plate was replaced by a very similar one specifically made for Chile. Starting in 1905, the national coat of arms was made in Germany, later on in Chile. This emblem was adopted in 1824, and changed with their motto in 1854 by the Army; it represents the Chilean national emblem. With the grey service uniform a plastic replica of the German "coal-scuttle" helmet, also evokes memories of the Reichsheer (a German paramilitary force) The Prussian unfforms are worn on parades .

Xanotos678 Its because in the 19th century chilean military wre trained by Prussian officrs who naturally used Prussian march music in training and parades. For more info also see my reply to Jordan Avalos
