I get a feeling that there are two sources for voice coil rub. One is that the voice coil is not circular and the other is that the surround dope has "fallen" down. Think the first thing to try is to move the driver 180 degree and wait some days to see if it's get better. The dope on the Altec can float around when it get hot. Question: What to use as dope for the surrounding? Is it black latex?

I think it is black latex, but I'm not an Altec Lansing historian :)

My voice coil is stuck to the middle part of magnet. The Yamaha 15-inch speaker is over 40 years old. How do I unstuck the voice coil?

That's a new one for me...I haven't the slightest.

My only thought is you really didn’t do anything permanent to fix it - so why wouldn’t it just go back to rubbing ? Hey, if it worked …. It worked.

Still no rub (I listen to them a few hours each week). Coil rub develops over time, so I’m guessing that shimming the coil is akin to ‘stretching/realigning’ everything. Chiropractic for the driver :)

How did you know it was rubbing in the first place? Was it something you heard when you were playing music?
@millervintagehifi3034 Жыл бұрын
Yes, distorted sound.

I keep my fingers crossed every time I listen that the coil rub doesn't come back...so far, so good.
