Altered Book-Lesson 2. Creating our first flip

In today’s class we’ll create a basic envelope flip with 3 pockets.
Supplies required: Envelope, Background paper, Glues and Ephemera

I am using my phone, but nothing should be backwards. Is the writing backwards? as that is usually the easiest way to see if you are looking at them in mirror image. I hope you got your pocket sorted (and your page) Kylie

Hi, sorry I hadn't got back to you yet with the other videos. You will find in the next video I start to address that exact problem, It is easier to fix before you start decorating your pages but don't freak it still works if your page is finished, It will just give you a slightly different look. In the early videos of this series I use washi tape but you will find that later on I use book page . Overall I prefer the book page but really it's up to you which one works . Hope that helps Kylie

How the signatures don’t fall apart after you cut the thread in the middle?

As well as being sewn the first pages on the signature are glued in, so it’s the glue that will hold it all together. Hope that helps

I wonder how long does the glue stick hold up for this project. I am just starting and am a total newbie. I am enjoying your videos

Glad you’re enjoying my videos, not all glue sticks are equal. For just adhering paper to paper I love my glue stick but if in doubt run a bead of craft glue around the edge then use your glue stick in the rest, or alternatively use double sided tape around the edge then use your glue stick over the entire surface (take off the backing of your tape and put glue on that as well) the glue gives you wiggle room and stops your tape from sticking straight away ( if you need to reposition) then the tape will hold firm

I definitely love your style!!! It is so much up my alley!!! I love using basic colouring for my main elements then adding the colour with ephemera!!! So you have got me right at the beginning. It's great that you are showing how you can use up what you have....as we all DO have loads of scraps, stuff like bookpages, packaging, envelopes etc!!! Using what we have give one a great sense of achievement (well it does for me anyway)!!! That you have cleared yet another item/s from the stash!!! Great work Kylie!!!

Hi Kylee.....according to the timeline on my post on this video it is three months since I viewed the video. Wow!!! Where did that time go!!! Anyway..... I have caught up on a few of my other projects so decided that making my altered book was going to be the next project!! Finally got this part done..... so am now getting ready to move onto the next part!! As I have loads of digitals and things that I have printed out over the years.... I have been digging through those to use in this project!!! This will be my very first altered book..... so I am excited to work on it!!
