Thank you for covering Altered in English! There are a lot of great content creators and big channels that cover Altered in French but the English community is lacking. Official release isn't until September 13 though so will over a month to continue building up the English speaking community :)

Amazing video! One thing to add is that the community is very supportive and kind! They recently hit over 10k members in the Official Altered Discord where people are always willing to help answer any questions you have about the game!

one of the pros is also the unique cards. So we come back to the days where you have pleasure to open a booster and discover a card that no one has (right now we know the full-set several month before the release for other tcg game). The promise is that in your booster you can have the best card of the world. In french channel with opening, when they have unique card, they try to find if their card is good or very good.

This is actually a huge con. Eventually the more rich players are going to have cards that cannot be predicted or strategized against. Imagine a player in MTG playing a power nine if no one knew what a power nine is.
@altrivotzck65655 ай бұрын
@@nicolasreta2248 Well, it sounds like a huge con if you assume it would work like that kind of a thing being in other already-established TCGs, but they've designed this entire game around the concept and managed to turn that huge con into a huge pro. You can only have 3 of these unique cards total in a single deck. They check this through the same system that they check the digital card ownership for tournament legality (so no fudging the numbers and adding more than 3) Each card can only have an effect on the game for 2 or maybe 3 turns (maybe more, in rare cases, but you get what I mean) Each card, no matter how powerful, can only do a maximum amount of "damage", because of how the racing system works. Every one of these "unique cards" is going to be a slightly-different version of 3 of the other cards already in the game (each card name has 4 "versions", including common, upgrade, out-of-faction, and unique), so nothing _that_ surprising can happen. Etc. So, yeah, it might sound like a huge problem, if you're used to other TCGs, but it's really not.
@altrivotzck65655 ай бұрын
@@nicolasreta2248 I don't know why it got deleted, but I wrote a whole comment about how it isn't actually as much of a con as you'd think it would be, due to how the game's designed, which turns this from a huge con into a pro. Basically, many of the unique systems in this game limit the impact that a single Unique can have, including: Only being allowed (and able, thanks to the digital deck registration) to have 3 uniques in a deck Uniques can only have an impact for 2 or 3 (or occasionally more) turns, and there are multiple ways for you to interact with this. No matter how strong a Unique is, it can only do a maximum amount of "damage", thanks to how the score system works. Even with a Unique dominating the board for your opponent, that doesn't stop you from also scoring on the other lane (in most cases) Each Unique is going to be similar to 3 of the other regular cards that already exist in the game, with the same name, so you'll probably have a general understanding of how a Unique works, even if it's your first time seeing it. Etc.
@Vitrunis5 ай бұрын
@@nicolasreta2248 You can only have three "uniques" at most in your deck (among thirty-nine cards + one hero). Also, from what I saw for now, they are mostly quite well-balanced; they intend to be only slightly more powerful than rare ones (some are even worse than some rares) Also, the effects and conditions of the unique are more or less predictable: what is unique is the combination of cost, power and effects, but by themselves they are not that surprising; some are less common than other, but none are completely unpredictable To elaborate a bit: each Unique is derived from a Common, and keep more or less the "flavor" of the common card, be it the effet or power-level. The game designers have publicly explained a bit the system in some interviews, and you can already study it on the thousands of Uniques already revealed (for instance on official website or "altered db" website) And also, in Altered, a card don't stay indefinitely on the board: by default, the board is cleared each "turn", limiting the power of cards which would happen to be overpowered So no, considering that (and other things), I don't think (neither hope) money will come to play a big role in the balance of the game
@martiald.26635 ай бұрын
@@nicolasreta2248uniques are the cherry on the cake, not the core of the deck. Rares are much more important. Will see how it works, but it is the design intent

I would argue one of the greatest things Altered will have to its advantage is that it won't have the cost associated with a lifestyle game. Once the print on demand is up and running the second hand market for Rares will plummet (especially since you can only choose 5 sets of rares for your deck list out of 54 available to each faction in set 1). And with only 3 uniques allowed in a 40 card deck you're not even going to see them in every game so it's very likely players will be able to build $20 decks that have no problem stealing plenty of games at locals. It is poised to be the number one entry-level friendly tcg, hands down.
@Chris3s6 ай бұрын
yea it has many mechanics to make it fairly cheap, it might be the new pokemon, but actually with better gameplay. For hardcore players it probably is still a bit too simple and might be limiting in deckbuilding
@fafdsfr6 ай бұрын
@@Chris3s Honestly, the limits on rares improves the deckbuilding experience for me. I'm constantly thinking "Yes, this rare is good, but do I want to use any of my 15 slots on that or would I rather just take the common version and take the rares of something else?" It's only going to get better once we have more than one set to pull from
@Chris3s6 ай бұрын
@@fafdsfr it makes it most likely also cheaper to play, but since you can only play so many rares those unwanted ones will become very cheap whenever a replacement is found. I am not against cheap games though, just an observation
@Vitrunis5 ай бұрын
@@Chris3s I'm not sure about the "too simple" part. To me it feels really "easy to learn, hard to master". Since there is just one set for now, it's normal there is a limited set of cards and capacities, but even with what is revealed now, the 500+ cards of the first set, I feel like the game has a lot of depth (maybe not as complex and hard as Flesh and Blood, I might grant you that)

Its a great game with an extremely cool model. Now if you really don't want to play a TCG then understood, but those that do its something truly different and Unique and the community around it is really great.

i love it, i love the fact that cards stay only for 1 turn, then go to the reserve and have a "last breath" from there. this is the most thematic TCG we can find : "you send troops to escort your hero or companion, at the end of the day, your troops have to rest bu can do one more push that cost their life" and feels almost like a boardgame to me.

there is so much to think and check at everysteps of the turn, this is waaaay more brain consuming than Lorcana, and way more enjoyable.. Star wars has few elements alike, but to me, altered is just better!
