I thought 7 would see rey go with kylo, and fin being the real jedi hero, trained by luke and luke coming back to save ben solo. Amen.

What could've saved it is the story revolving around how the first order was built, which leads to the reveal that Palpatine is alive rather than the story revolving around a wayfinder device. Not only is the story bad, it's freaking boring.

That movie does NOT require an alternate ending, it requires an alternate writing. Parting from the way The Last Jedi ended, there was literally nothing that could save this movie. All of the trilogy was poorly written. But anyways, I'll give my 5 cents on how this could have ended better. Leia's death leaves Rey with ancient Force teachings on some books she got from legendary jedi Obi Wan. Kylo, now Supreme Leader, goes directly to his mother's corpse, surrounds himself hugging his mother with an impenetrable force field. Rey is captured; and C-3PO later accidentally frees her. Poe, Chewbacca, and Finn find a way to infiltrate the first order ranks and orchestrate chaos to recover the Millennium Falcon but face Ren Knights. Rey finds her friends badly injured, then Kylo finishes Finn and Poe, and crushes an empty Falcon. Rey surrenders, Chewbacca is captured. Kylo takes Rey and Chewie to a secluded planet and puts them a bit far from each other, and while Rey is the only witness, Kylo confronts and defeats the Ren Knights. He spares Rey, claiming the Force imbalance caused by killing her will persist, and leaves the planet, claiming that the dark or light side of the force are the same tyrannical entity bestowing a twisted way to bring it's purpose to reality. Rey mourns her friends, studies Leia's books who imply that force can be used to heal, finds chewie with a lot of wounds and salvaged parts from the cell he was left on, and fixes Leia's lightsaber, only to find that the saber is yellow instead of green. Rey and Chewie manages to create a device to signal for help, which is only received by Lando Calrissian, end of story, new trilogy to come after.

Addendum: Ben Solo and Rey also should have gotten a happy and hopeful romance arc that Anakin and Padme did not. It would have shown that romantic love can be a force (no pun intended) for good with the power to change destiny for the better instead of just being something that must be avoided at all costs because it will supposedly only destroy you.

The only thing that could've saved Rise of Skywalker was Disney NOT listening to the The Last Jedi blind haters and thus progressing from where TLJ left off. Nearly everything wrong with the third movie can be traced directly back to Disney doing everything they could to ignore, retcon, or even mock TLJ in every way they could get away with. This was done in order to try to appease those blind haters by acting like The Last Jedi never happened. The Last Jedi handed the third movie the best setup Disney could've asked for on a silver platter and they squandered it, that's the problem.

@@arthurmartine6410Episode 7 was pretty good, episode 8 was excellent, without contest the best Star Wars movie since the OT. The Last Jedi was easily the first movie in decades to even be in the same league as the Original Trilogy and I will die on that hill. Episode 9 was bad because Disney listened to blind haters and so tried to appease them by acting like TLJ never happened as much as they could. Episode 9 could've outdone both movies and resulted in a trilogy that matched if not exceeded the original trilogy but instead because Disney listened to the wrong people Episode 9 ended up a total dumpster fire that retroactively made the rest of the Sequel Trilogy much much MUCH worse.
