That's a part of the issue that doesn't seem to be mentioned at all. It's not just that the movies aren't good. If it was only that, then why are the movies that are well received not making money? Movie tickets are outrageous compared to a decade ago and most of these flicks end up on VOD within a month or two. People who don't have the expendable income are going to go with the cheapest option. This is really a case of bad economics combined with bad business decisions, combined with an industry of creatives who aren't creative, led by people who don't like to take risks. As George Carlin said, "this is circling the drain time".

Maybe it even explained Fury Road's somewhat poor box office numbers despite being considered one of the greatest action movies of all time. I have no problem with the female leads in Fury Road/Furiosa, they are done well, but strong female characters are not bringing women to watch these movies. It's insane to me that Hollywood is somewhat forgetting and costing themselves billions in the process (Marvel and Star Wars do this x10 worse). Here's why movies are flopping... Why pay $18 per ticket times 2, per couple ($36), plus the price of simple refreshments ( maybe another $20) , so you are up to $56-60. Dealing with annoying people that don't realize they are in a cinema, not their living room, that talk and kick and have their lit phones on during a movie you paid good money for. Then that same movie is put ON DEMAND 4-5 weeks later for only $20 and you save money and don't have to put up with annoying jerks that do not respect the "movie going experience". Here’s my take: George Miller conceived Fury Road and Furiosa in the mid to late 90s and has been trying to get them made since the early 2000s before the “girl boss” trope as we know it was even a thing and female led action movies were only just starting to be a thing. Fast forward to 2015 and the idea of a badass woman warrior character co-leading a genre action flick isn’t exactly groundbreaking but overall the character is well received. Fast forward again to 2024 and audiences are so “girl bossed” out that any movie with even a hint of the trope (ie a small woman with unchanging facial expression leading an action movie) repels a significant portion of them. Even if Furiosa is not a true girl boss the oversaturation of girl bosses in Hollywood today killed much of the hype for the movie.

@@animelover48348 On the contrary, Hollywood is obsessed with representation which is what you're talking about. Hollywood thinks they're correcting an imbalance by featuring more under-represented groups and giving us characters like the girl boss. They think they are giving more people a chance to see 'themselves' on screen, and that representation is one of the most important things to audiences. But as it turns out (and which everyone has always known) women just aren't anywhere near as interested in action movies as men are, regardless of who the main character is. It's like thinking that if more male characters are the protagonists of romance films, suddenly more men will want to watch them. It doesn't work like that. Women can be great action hero protagonists if done right, as the classic examples of Ripley and Sarah Connor prove.

@Chaotic42Kami5 ай бұрын
@@jmazuryk I don't think those are adequate comparisons. "Star Wars" is a setting and a universe where thousands of stories happen. "Mad Max" was the name of the titular character, not the setting. The setting is The Wasteland. So, a name that didn't seek to use "Mad Max" as bait would be something like "Furiosa: A Tale from The Wasteland" or something like that. And while it is obviously seeking to hook people that like the setting from Mad Max in, it is not a "Mad Max" movie. ...also, Solo bombed HARD, so it might not be the best thing to bring up...

@@Chaotic42Kami 'The Wasteland' as in the Wasteland featured in the recent Fallout series (& all the games)? Maybe ur not up on the post-apocalyptic genre but calling something 'the Wasteland' is like calling grass green. Doesn't matter if it bombed. The point was a man's name was needed to sell this movie. I disagree, in this use case it's the name of the franchise. Again, what else would u call it? (Hmm, this just occurred to me- is the name of the universe actually 'Star Wars'? Otherwise what's the problem of calling it the 'Mad Max franchise'? Isn't it the 'Terminator franchise', not 'the franchise set in a future where Skynet takes over'?)
@Chaotic42Kami5 ай бұрын
@@jmazuryk The Wasteland of Mad Max predates the Fallout universe by at least a decade, but I was just pitching a random name. And most of the Fallout games have specific names for their little slice of the post-apocalypse. Fallout 3 had The Capital Wasteland, Fallout New Vegas had The Mojave Wasteland, Fallout 4 had The Commonwealth and Fallout 76 has Apalacchia. Don't really remember if Fallout 1 and 2 had a specific term for it, but it happens in California, so maybe... Anyways, my point was that the Mad Max franchise is (or rather should be) about the character of Max and whatever he is doing in the Wasteland. Unlike with Star Wars which does lend itself to many different stories and protagonists. It's like if I pitched a movie called "Mina: A Dracula Saga" about the character of Mina Murray (Jonathan Harker's fiancée and one of the main characters of the og Dracula novel) and ended the story before Jonathan even left for Transylvania. Sure, the movie and story might be good, but I'd still be using Dracula's fame to try and hook in an audience that otherwise wouldn't care about the movie.

Maybe it's not fair, but can you blame fans for being suspicious at this point? Moreover, if fans were to support a movie with even a whiff of the "girl boss" trope in it Hollywood's confirmation bias would see that as a sign to commission 10 more years of "girl boss" movies before they are even willing to admit it isn't working and begin to change course again. They did this movie correctly by giving the side character her own story without overtly replacing the main character and layering copious amounts of Woke into it, but because Hollywood has replaced so many beloved main characters with insufferably Woke female leads the general audience sees a female lead on a male lead's franchise and assumes the worst. Hollywood overdosed on Wokeamphetamine and Wokaine and is gonna have to spend a VERY long time in detox and rehab to return to normal, and even then we will always see the former Woke addict and will never be able to fully trust Hollywood ever again. Theaters have been playing Rocky Horror Picture Show for decades. It's not my cup of meat but people like it. Do like stores taking Bud Light off the shelves. If theaters stopped showing Disney movies then they couldn't even theoretically make money on new releases. This would permanently cripple Disney's ability to make movies. That's a good thing. Other studios would either take the hint or fall to the same fate. I believe cinemas, but especially cinema chains, could break the power of DEI. All that assuming they're not bought off and are part of the problem. In that case I really don't care if they go out of business. That means the problem of cinemas going bankrupt is self-correcting. We want Max to have a dignified send off. Only Mel Gibson can play Max, in my opinion - he CREATED that character on screen in 1979, and is the ONLY PERSON who should play him while we still have the man here. Let him bid farewell to the character in a gritty, brutal, low-budget film (just like the first two)... and have him die a GOOD death. Nothing as idiotic as my other heroes (Han Solo and Luke Skywalker) had to suffer, but something noble. The franchise deserves that. Hell, even have it that Furiosa is responsible for helping start the final recovery of civilization, but there's one last warlord out in the wasteland. Max is old. He's battered. He KNOWS he's not gonna survive a confrontation with the big bad - he'll probably WIN, but the effort IS going to kill him... and he does it anyway, saying "I've been living in the wastes too long to go back to civilization, kid - I know it. I'm a warrior. Let me die fighting in the only world I belong in." There wouldn't be a dry eye in the theater.

Furiosa has about 10 to 15 minutes of high octane road combat that had me on the edge of my seat. Beyond that, it had nothing to offer. 95% of all characters and locations are repeats from Fury Road. The novelty of discovering a new world or new territory is conspicuously absent. George Miller's typical showing of religion and mythology in the wasteland is also absent. We're briefly reminded of Valhalla, but no new belief systems are shown. There is a part where they _tell_ you there's action (A LOT of action) but they don't actually show it. Because the movie is a prequel, you slready know everything that has to happen. She has to end up with Immortan Joe, she has to lose her arm at some point, the driver of the war rig has to die so she can become the new driver, etc. There are almost no surprises. She literally demands her childhood and dead mother back. It's like watching a toddler throw a tantrum. Mad Max toddler tantrum. What. The f**k. As soon as the credits roll it starts flashing scenes and tidbits from Fury Road. As if to say, "Remember the movie you _actually_ like? Please associate this movie with that one. PLEASE." There are exceptions in the spirit of historical drama or comedy. But with the Mad Max franchise, I didn’t have the desire to go to the movies precisely because of the predictability. I knew from the very beginning that Furiosa would survive. From the very beginning I understood that her lover would die. I knew from the beginning that Joe would win. I knew from the very beginning that Dementos would lose. I knew from the very beginning that Furiosa's revenge would be successful, and it was. This film is an action movie but it is predictable from A to Z. And that's what makes any action movie - bad. Predictability

He was a guest in his own movie, she stole his thunder and was presented in a completely unrealistic way in a setting that supposed to be visceral and grounded in reality.

Plus the fact that we got her story in the last movie and that was enough. And it's a different actress playing the part,. Theron is way too old now, I guess, so that explains it, but that's going to reduce interest even further.

@@gungho1284 They could have used Theron though. She doesn't look much older than in Fury Road. Surely the young versions would still have to be a little girl but they could have used her. Just another stupid decision.

InсеI, i can see why you're so mad. It's obvious that no woman have ever loved you, not even your own mother, and they never will. How sad is that?

Quite simply because no one wanted this prequel. We wanted a continuation of Fury Road, not back tracking to tell some story no one gives a fuck about. Furiosa was an OK character, but Mad Max is what we want. It's as simple as that.

We just want good movies and kick ass fun, furiosa gave that in abundance so dont give bullshit reason and get the fu-----k off, bark somewhere else😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Ferry Road? Where Mad Max is Castrated by That Cahnt? Wow, no honor or Integrity here sadly... Hope your on Ritalin or Adderall, to prevent psychotic thinking.

Mad Max: Fury Road flopped in the box office as well

Spot on. Would much rather have a Mad Max film about Max. I thought there was going to be a sequel called Wasteland and then we get this. Also not sure about Anya Taylor in the role

@@George18798 Flopped or not, but it was one of the best action movies ever made. And if we are talking about vehicle action movies - then IT IS the best ever made.

It's not that they removed Max, it's that the script is lame. We have no insights into how Furiosa become such a badass and killer by the time she was 9. No insights into how she becomes a badass climber. Mechanic. Driver. Road Warrior. They skip over all of that and we just take for granted that she's awesome without having to learn, fail, or grow. Show us the secrets about the tribe she comes from. Show us how imperators are selected, and rise to greatness. Instead the same old Mary Sue treatment. And the last scene in the desert was the lamest writing of all. "You stole my childhood!" Post-apocalyptic tribes wouldn't talk that way. The male prostration and female rage were also heavy-handed.
