SYNOPSIS:
They're back with the ghouls and vampires, the ghosts and spirits and even more terrifying entities. And wherever these evil beings are, you'll find brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, hunters on the trail of the demon who murdered their mother…and of any other unholy agent of the Supernatural.
Dean is attacked by a Djinn... and finds himself in a new reality where his mother is still alive and a mysterious woman holds the key to everything.

Apologies for the long wait on this one! For some reason, WBTV kept rejecting my copyright disputes (which they've never done before) for this episode so it was just consistently getting blocked. I applaud you that you could hold back your tears, because I've lost how many times I've watched this episode and all many times I've watched reaction to this episode and every time I cry my eyes out.

This is an episode about wishes coming into being, so let’s look at Dean’s wishes in this SPN universe. - Mary died when Dean was a kid, he’s missing a mother’s love, so he wished his mother was alive. John died when Dean was an adult (he knew a father’s love already), so, no need to wish him to be alive. - But John died because of horrible causes, so Dean wishes that his father died of a natural cause. In this wish-verse Dean isn't the reason that John is dead. He also in a way, sort of accepted his father's death, because it was part of the job. - But not his mother, he never got over his mother's death. So he does wish for his mother back because he knew that his and Sam's life would have been so much better with her in it. - Dean’s necklace is gone; it’s been replaced by a plain silver chain (I see on Patreon you are at 3.07. Watch this space about the necklace - it meant something soon about why the chain is different. You will know when you reach it). - Since Dean is a hunter and he knows about monsters and demons, his dream wish is sprinkled with warning signs to wake him up by his subconscious, hence he is aware that the girl haunting him about something. - Whenever Dean tries to rationalize what is happening, he is told to get some rest. That is the djinn trying to prevent him from waking up. Just as we see the djinn tells the young girl “Sleep” when she cries. - When Dean’s dream family says these "sleep" or "get some rest" lines to him, this is what’s happening in the real world : Dean is starting to come around, edging out of the dream, and the djinn is lulling him back to sleep while feeding on his blood some more. And Dean is going pretty willingly. He doesn't really want this dream to end. - The 'Dean is an alcoholic' spouted off by his family is also his low opinion that he has of himself (IMO). - He doesn't have a graduation photo like Sam, so he is a 'loser' in this wish world is actually in his subconscious. - Whenever the El Sol beer appears in this series, it is the in-show prop symbolism that the protagonists, especially Dean imo, are having mental anguish or something is wrong. - Fun Fact: I read somewhere that the actor who played the djinn had all those henna/tattoos on his head during the entirety of the shooting, and he basically couldn't walk down the street without people crossing to get away from him. This is one of my favorite episodes of this entire series (can't you tell, lol). There is so much about Dean to unpack, and everything hurts.

Such a good episode! I love how fond Dean is of Jess even though he doesn't know her well just because Sam loves her so much. Great reaction, I'm so excited to see the one for the next episode!!

I love how this ep was filmed as a classic sitcom/slice of life show. Like the lighting and the backdrops are so reminiscent of the classics and I think it fit so well. I loved the filming choices for this.
