You bring up a great point: why IS he so underrated? DC editorial might have tried to downplay him over the years because of the less than noble way they treated Fawcett Comics. However, that's all set to change after, hopefully, a good movie. Creators are certainly behind the character.

Jeremy Cline I believe it's when treated well? His story is more compelling than superman. And,like Batman. It's more believable. With Batman he's what we could be if we had the money and drive. But,with CAPTAIN MARVEL!(What can I say? I'm a"purist".) He's what we were when you tied that towel around your neck and flew thru the backyard as a kid. He was that. And,they never really capitalized that. Now image comics had a knockoff character named Prime? That was a good book and was a cartoon. It really played up the angle of boy becomes superhero.

+George Tinker I actually agree with you, and I think DC is beating Marvel to the punch because they will have a kid superhero, and from the cast list they look to be starting a Marvel Family like the recent Geoff John's version. Zachary Levi described it as Big meets Superman but with the magical elements I think that will add to the appeal. If the film works, Marvel might regret not adding the Sam Alexander Nova to their cinematic universe earlier.

Shazam has been my favourite superhero from dc ever since young justice. And i get that seeing him go from being that happy, upstanding kid who doesnt act like a delinquent to someone who is, is hard to digest but i like his character more for it. I absolutely adored Miracle Man (formerly known as Marvel Man) by Alan Moore. He's an awesome british version of Captain Marvel/Shazam and Moore gave him some badass storylines in the mid-80s :)

DC should rectify Mercury as the god that gives him speed; they did that somehow in The Darkseid War. Doesn´t make sense because the Greek gods are the ones that inhabit DC; on Earth 1 at least. In the New 52, on the Earth 2 comic, they established that there is where the Romans gods exist. Not just for Jay Garrick to get his powers/helmet look but also as Wonder Woman´s universe.
