I am glad Dr. Marks at least talks about nutrition and natural options. That is rare for a psychiatrist. Most of the time they do not even suggest getting tested for ANY deficiency, much less discuss potential natural options. They usually just want to prescribe Lexapro or Zoloft and send you on your way. Thank you Dr. Marks for giving a balanced view of these options.

The thing I had to do was experiment with them to discover the best time to take it. Also after having eaten or not eaten plays a part. They seem to be more effective on an empty stomach.

Jokes, Detox the mind from within with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, when on mobile, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

@lisbethbird82683 жыл бұрын
I agree. Even a non slow release brand has a noticeable effect for me. It worked much much better than prozac. And I usually only take it once a day at night. It does make me sleepy and sometimes have more vivid dreams. Sometimes I add a morning dose (you should really take on empty stomach), but then have coffee after an hour or so. Two big pluses: it starts working almost immediately, and will not cause weight gain.

Do you get nausea?
@lisbethbird82683 жыл бұрын
@@avill012 no,that hasn't been a problem. A cool thing is that you should know within just a few days if it's helping you or not, and if it bothers your stomach. No need to taper if you want to stop, just stop. But be very careful and check with a your prescribing doctor if you are already on antidepressant medication. A good reference on this and other amino acid therapeutics is The Mood Cure. By Dr. Julia Ross.
@lisbethbird82683 жыл бұрын
@Zafar Khan I found it very helpful and I know others who have as well, and none of us were helped by ssris. Prozac made me numb and fat. Have decided to tackle the effects with a dietary approach. Plenty of oily fish & greens & carrots, eggs & peppers, plus very high cocoa chocolate, walnuts & pumpkin seeds. It would be absolutely fantastic if you could do a video aimed at helping people on the low FODMAP Diet improve their anxiety & depression. There are studies that show that the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft has nothing to do with actually suffering from depression or not. Plus, it’s not connected to its severity, that is very low concentration equals severe depression. In fact, these studies don’t even see that there is such a thing as a „normal“ or average concentration. What do you make out of that? Best, P.

st john's wort has enough evidence to make it a very reasonable medicine to try. I sometimes suggest it to some of my patients as a psychiatrist, but usually only if they are on no prescription meds, as it interactions with the liver in a way that can make it dangerous if you are on blood thinners, OCPs, etc. Besides that though what is not to like? Meta anayleses suggest it is as effective as SSRIs for mild to moderate depression with usually NO sexual dysfunction, which is the #1 reason people stop SSRIs.

Niacinamide (Vitamin B-3): "A number of practitioners have observed that supplementation with large doses of niacinamide can relieve anxiety in some patients. This anti-anxiety effect is presumably pharmacological, since patients who improved typically did not appear to be deficient in B vitamins, and “nutritional” doses of niacinamide (such as 20-100 mg per day) were of little or no benefit. Niacinamide in doses ranging from 500 mg twice a day to 1,000 mg 3 times per day is beneficial for some patients with anxiety, including patients with anxiety related to alcohol abuse.". "It appears that niacinamide has therapeutic effects comparable to the benzodiazepines, a class of medications commonly used for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Niacinamide’s therapeutic effects are likely not related to it acting as a ligand for the benzodiazepine receptor, even though it acts centrally and might have a weak binding affinity for the benzodiazepine receptor. Both the benzodiazepines and niacinamide exerts similar anti-anxiety effects through the modulation of neurotransmitters commonly unbalanced in anxiety."

Tracey, love your videos!!! Very informative. As far as depression, one of the essential oils that has helped me is, "Fennel". I usually take 2-3 drops in a capulet. Supposedly good for mood, hormones, girly parts, boy parts...taste like licorice...down side is burping fennel licorice taste. I also like... Ashwaghabda for depression...Your thoughts?

Best thing i take is Niacin (vitamin B3) 500mg 3 times daily, it gives feel good feelings, there's an initial flush, warm feeling and slight itchiness when you start taking it initially but after taking it regularly this goes away.

Because of this i weep I’ve heard high doses can cause or aggravate liver damage and people who are on blood thinner need to be very precise with their dosing because it has a natural blood thinning effect. That being said it is an essential nutrient and a deficiency can cause anemic+ symptoms as well as elevated homocysteine in the brain, which causes cognitive deterioration

I'm aware I'm always sad, numb, hopeless, suicidal, and insomniac, but I still have my life put together though not beautifully. I don't yet consult a doctor out of fear that the doctor finds me 'unsuited' for a diagnosis due to me being fully functioning. Would you recommend I take the nutritional supplements just to see if I can start to feel again? Or is there a very light antidepressant that I can buy OTC?

I feel the same. My life is "stable" but I have moments when I want to just die. Like I just want to just do nothing not even to get up to work not to shower,eat etc. But then couple days go by and I'm okay.
@smilesnluvd65264 жыл бұрын
You should talk to your doctor. Being able to function doesn't mean you don't need some help. You should be able to enjoy your life, not just make it through. Stay safe.

Please get some help, you deserve it. Untreated depression can become worse over time. As far as recommendations, one of the biggest natural antidepressants with extensive research behind it is exercise, specifically cardio. It is proven to have short term and long term benfits on mental health/illness. Also, you could try vitamin d supplementation and a light therapy lamp. Doctors can also prescribe you an emotional support animal. I have two dogs now, one an ESA and one is a service dog in training. They have truly made a difference on my mental health. While I still have severe mental illnesses, they have given me purpose, comfort, and love every single day. Goodluck on your journey!! Get the help you need to live the best life possible, you only have 1!

If you tell the doctor you are “always sad, numb, hopeless, suicidal, and insomniac” there is no way you will be considered “unsuited “ for a diagnosis. BTW I am a licensed mental health professional,
