My coaches always yelled at me for "cheating" when I put my hand below my back doing crunches! It just naturally feels so much better to me.
@IzunaDestruction
@IzunaDestruction 3 жыл бұрын
Hands below the lower back helps to keep good posture and changes nothing about the intensity of the exercise. No cheating. Hands below the glutes/hamstrings help you to pull yourself up with your arms instead of your abs. That's cheating.

Same here and I think it caused problems for me in the long run that coulda been being resolved by not digging my back into the ground. Swear it caused me to start overcompensating to just get done with the exercises instead of doing them correctly and having them be effective

I started CrossFit when I was 38, now I am 54. I LOVED CrossFit, still do, HOWEVER, now I have knee and shoulder problems. I can't do what I used to. Sad. You're absolutely right when you say you may get away with it when you're younger, but as someone in my 50's it has caught up. Listen to these guys now. Your older self will thank you.

Grateful I ran into Bob and Brad’s videos. At 26, the amount of young KZbin Fitness “Gurus” that promote so many compromising exercises and stretches is astounding. They have free reign to lead millions to mediocre workouts that focus more on aesthetics than sustainable healthy movement. Just recently I started doing a workout with one KZbinr who uses workout routines that put the lower back/disks at risk and something was not right. She had millions of subscribers. When I researched for good stretches I learned through their videos why her workout routine was causing me pain. Finally learned my lesson. And that is to avoid taking exercise advice from inexperienced internet Gurus unless they have EXTENSIVE years and the credentials to teach. Too many put “fitness” before health. Thank you for leading others to focus on health and for the experience you both share! You guys are funny and carry great energy.

13:28 Instead of lateral flexion with weights would a farmer's carry/walk with weight on one side work instead? As a farmer's walk is reccomended by a lot of other professionals, including other PT's. Is it the flexion that causes the issues or just the imbalance of weight distribution? As personally I find planks, including a side plank, too easy and would need variations, resistance or stability altering equipment.

I think you may have helped me figure out what’s going on with my right knee. I run/walk in a park on a asphalt trail which definitely has one side higher than the other because of drainage. I always go one way because I go up the larger hill these way. I couldn’t figure out why my right knee has started hurting when doing this. I’m going to see what happens this week when I change directions. Happy Easter! Love all the info you two provide.

Don't pull up as far! I do those upright rows for my shoulders but could never quite get how it was better to go up so high. I couldn't feel any kind of muscle play that felt like strengthening to me. So from here on in, I will no longer pull up higher than chest level. It's wonderful to be, kind of like, given permission to do these exercises in a way that feels good and makes better sense.

Your bent-over row form is totally different from what we're taught in BodyPump. Our knees are bent, back straight, shoulders engaged and a weighted bar is kept very close to the body -- it slides up and down the thighs. Even with a shoulder injury, I still do bent-over rows.

Hi Bob and Brad, First off, thanks for the videos. So, you've said that you don't suggest military press, by which I think you mean shoulder presses in general. Do you have exercises which you DO recommend in order to grow shoulders, or are you generally against doing shoulder work? If you find what working the shoulders is ok, could you please suggest some exercises which are safe to do? Thank you guys again. Best and most famous PTs on the internet!!

I have a question. There was some article I read on exercises you should avoid and it included partial situps/crunches, the reason they gave being that they put a lot of stress on the neck and it targeted very few abdominal muscles. Everytime I do them I do feel work in my lower abdomen but I feel way more work and I do... sory my English fails me, the exercise where you lay down face up and lift your legs straight until they for ma 90 degree angle with the floors. And it doesnt hurt my neck. Whereas when I do crunches my neck feels a lot of pressure.
