The coronavirus outbreak has triggered a surge in anxiety among people living in quarantine, and therefore it's no surprise that we've seen a massive spike in the use of anti-anxiety medications. However, what many people don't know is that these meds often come with a price. There are tons of potential side effects, and the medications can be hard to come off of. In this video, Dr. Amen gives you his medication alternatives that can have you feeling better in both the short and long term.

Deep belly breathing, chamomile tea, prayer, heating pad to diaphragm and belly, Christian music, vagus nerve reset exercise helps me. I start with a sip of tea, do the breathing throughout, vn exercise, etc. I can't stop a panic attack in 2 minutes. It usually takes me an hour, but that's better than an all day panic attack.

Give me a break! Chamomile tea is useless when you have a panic attack! You may as well drink champagne tea! Apparently you have never experienced a real panic disorder! Sure tea isn't going to help. Best bet is Meditation!!!

Has anyone tried lithium rotate- its a supplement ( not the lithium prescribed to people with bi polar) Maybe it's in the book - haven't gotten to it yet. Also read an article about a supplement 5 Htp that may be helpful for anxiety and depression.

Dr Amen, I’m trying to eliminate all nightshades from my diet, and I’m wondering what supplements you carry that might have nightshades in them as I have autoship products from Brain MD. Eliminating all nightshades might be as tricky as your patient found with eliminating MSG. Apparently nightshades are such a very diverse family that I can’t simply go by the genus/species when looking up foods/herbs/spices. Would you please let me know if all your products are free of nightshades?? Thanks so much!!!

Ron (husband) & I love watching these videos. If it hadn't been for the pandemic, you probably wouldn't be making these frequent videos.....so we see that as a very good thing! We enjoy the casual approach, love the stories intermingled. GABA...yes ! I researched seizures when our last dog, Sophie, suffered seizures. I started giving her GABA & her monthly seizures almost stopped entirely. She'd get one a year, maybe, after that. We were SO glad because it was so upsetting to see this beautiful dog going thru a seizure. Her eyes showed her fear. Thank you so much for these frequent podcasts....I'm sharing them on FB &/or emailing them. Big fans of yours. Very glad to hear your parents are out of hospital & doing much better.

MSG is scary!! I experienced it quite a number of times back then. Happens more with Asian food it seems and that's what I eat the most. It does make you feel like you're having a panic attack. I'm glad they're removing MSG from foods but it's still out there in low doses. I try to avoid them when I can. Whenever I felt funny in the stomach, I checked the ingredients and I noticed MSG listed. Nobody believed me before. They thought I was paranoid for no reason or placing wrongful blame. I was the only one in the family who experienced it. My mom eventually experienced it once and was freaked out. It landed my friend in the hospital too because she didn't know what was happening to her body.

What a great video Dr. Amen, you are truly a blessing. I look forward to purchasing your book. My Question is about taking CBD oil for my sleep problem that comes from the Cannabis Hemp plant - different from that with THC. It is found to help those with BiPolar as well. I see you are not a fan - even from the Hemp plant only? I do take Magnesium, Ashwagandha and have tried L Theanine, Valerian, Melatonin and will try GABA next but tempted by the CBD oil in desperation.

I had non anemic iron deficiency - Ferritin was 27 but the BRC/Hemoglobin was "normal". I had all symptoms of sever anemia but my CBC was normal. Hemoglobin had dropped from 139 to 127 over a few years. If your ferritin is below 40 you can have symptoms. Women! Get your iron tested and if it's under 40-60 take supplements. Diet takes to long. Also low B12 can cause anxiety. Big links to anxiety and depression with low iron. PS My iron dropped because I messed up my diet and trained a lot.

I did this, naturally though, I had written all these terrible things about myself on a note paper to get it out of my head, I was feeling very low in many ways, the next morning, I walked in and wrote "NOT" on each of them, and read it outloud to myself, and I felt this insane lifting of my spirit, like one of those wild winds that comes out of nowhere - it was such a relief. This is really good advice. l am booking an appt to get my brain scanned and whatever else I need, if i have to sell the house, I don't care. at least I will know which way to go in ten years.

Going on 12 years and I'm still having symptoms off Ativan. Never abused, used as needed which is worse then regular usages because this allows Benzo kindling. I'm having weakness in limbs, floaty, drug sensations, perceptional and visual symptoms very scary, my organs are itchy and burning, anxiety higher then normal, balance complications, hair loss, sex drive loss, seeing flashing lights when my eyes are closed and head sensations and pressures you'd could never discribe. Benzodiazepines are so dangerous when used longer then recommended which is 2-4 weeks max, call any pharmacist they will tell you the same thing. If you're beyond a month you most likely have weird symptoms no one can explain from breathing, Musculatory, neurological, perceptional and visual, sensory and motor dysfunction, hormonal changes, food and chemical sensitivity, scary bodily sensations the list goes on and on

Okay I agree all these things are useful and necessary But For severe panic attacks with sensory issues Like dizziness, floor tilting, vertigo ect. These are in public and interrupt function In those cases medications that act fast are the only sure fire way of being able to get out of that…you can do breath work…or walk or get to a better place… Other things are long term habits that help manage these.. Now my issues do come from a head injury..but this has turned into a huge problem..that not much can be done for except symptom management..

I took Ativan for about a month at .25 mg a day. Not a very big dose. Hit tolerance at about a month. Cold turkeyed. It was a nightmare. Took several months
