Now he’s lashing he’s anger towards her for how Ling Yunche may or could feel about her. God he’s such a narcissist.

Not to mention it always seems like he’s just making excuses ruyi I am the emperor or that he hasn’t reign as emperor for a few years and doesn’t know how to handle it ( in the episode where ruyi comes back from the cold palace and he is in her rebuilt palace cuz her maid betrayed her) or just seems like he always says some thing to try to take the blame off of him. Now he’s trying to blame one of the guards we had to assign to protect his wife meanwhile he knows that he put this guard in the cold pallet so that way his wife could be protected. I also have watched most of it in clips. but the show itself has an inane amount of episodes, and if you watch from the beginning (or just clips from the earlier eps) you can see he was very different, especially with her. while the signs are there he gradually becomes more erratic, more paranoid, more cruel (I know it should e crueller, but I liked the sentence flow). I the beginning its easy to blame his mother and the first empress rather than to ascribe much responsibility onto him. the show is honesty worth watching twice, once to straight watch it and be surprised by the twists and betrayals, and then another time with the complete overview in advance so you can really appreciate how the characters change Another version/perspective/interpretation of these people is Story of Yanxi Palace, which while still heartbreaking at times, feels more lighthearted. both are incredible but also very long😅 I hope this didn't feel like an overshare I just love Ruyi (and obviously hate the emperor) and really admire the execution of this story

honestly, this is why i like yanxi palace over royal love-- theres so many funny moments and the emperor is more tolerable. This guy reminds me of my parents toxic relationship. One fight after another, one accusation after another. they relied on me emotionally-- my mother would rant to me, and my father would fight with me when he couldn't fight with her, or if they were fighting he would treat us kids much better to make himself seem better than her. Some scenes with ruyi i felt like her-- emotionally drained, hurt, tired, sick, angry, and then accepting. it was hard watching these clips progress the way it did. i can only watch clips--- i love ruyi, i hope one day i can get over how i feel to actually sit down and watch this show. i love that the actress chose to have ruyi die "peacefully" rather than suicide. she died tired and with a broken heart, but she was free when she knew that while in life she could never be free. i pray for all the people who are in an emotionally abusive relationship-- i pray most for their children.
