Someone commented this on the official Alton Towers post and as much as I can't wait to get back there it's a very fair point: Social distancing on a coaster moving quickly is utterly meaningless. Travelling through the space of someone a fraction of a second later, but yeah, you are 2 metres apart? A nonsense with no thought given to the point of social distancing measures. An illusion of being safe is worse than letting people know and understand the risks to make an informed choice.

Whilst I get all the safety measures in place, temp checking rules out most people on anti-depressants as a common side effect of them can be high temps. I know this as I'm on them and am one of many in this camp. Ah well looks like the only theme park I'll see soon is on Planet Coaster, Bummer. Not meaning to sound selfish just stating a fact. This could almost effect with paultons park which I live close to. I told my mother about this since she works at paultons park. Same for other theme park worldwide could consider re-opening but with strict rules to stop the virus from spreading.

Hi shawn thanks for the update . Life is certainly going to be different for a while . I work at Tesco and having all the one way system in place and screens in front of me on the checkout and queing inside and outside the shops has been quite difficult to get used to . One thing that I keep thinking of is , if you are sitting part way down the train of a ride and the people who are in the row that is in front of you ( the next permitted row) sneezes or coughs and you are going through what they’ve expelled then I don’t think this has been thought through ! Especially as face masks are not compulsory. What’s your thought on this ?

If you are not feeling well on the day when you go, then how do you change your booking date at no extra cost without going to the park and getting turned away? Will you have to arrange it through phone, online, email? How would that system work?

Perhaps a deposit system might work for the annual passes? So you are charged a fee to make the reservation, which is then refunded once the pass is scanned at the turnstiles

Great content Shawn! As a nurse, I have a differing personal view on mask use in public BUT I will absolutely be down for wearing an AT branded one - I think the theme park experience will be so different this year and a mask is part of it, so I’ll be getting our family and few and embracing it! I think others who wouldn’t ordinarily wear them will be keener to if they’re a merch opportunity👍🏻

Great to hear the news that Alton towers will open. But my favourite thing is scarefest and it seems very slim that it’s going to take place. But a great improvement from thinking that we are not going to see the gates open until 2021. Also loved the bookworm series. :)

for pass holders, it should be a deposit. You pay a lot of money for an annual pass so you shouldn't be charged extra to go to the park but there needs to be some incentive to not just book a slot and then not turn up and i think a deposit (say of like £5) would do that. I haven't been to alton towers in years and i am just hoping that it is open for my birthday in August .

Personally I would think when Alton Towers (in fact any theme parks in the world) reopen, masks should be compulsory to keep the guests and staffs safe. I think a virtual queue system will also help social distancing!

The temperature when they can send you home on my building site is from 38°c so I’m am guessing it will be the same everywhere else !!! When parks eventually reopen it will be a nightmare and I don’t think people understand how bad it will impact not only the parks business but it will make a park visit very unpleasant and not very fun especially when you CAN NOT just turn up on the day and expect to enter the park even if you have an annual pass for the park !!! I know this sounds bad especially coming from me but to be honest I would much prefer to wait till things go back to normal before I can go to a park and enjoy it !!

For all i'm happy that they are opening again, I feel that the time you will wait to get onto the rides will be far too long if they are going to leave empty rows as well as it being incredibly hard for the staff to monitor everything around the park, for me the best option is to make everyone have to wear a mask and operate somewhat normal. And as someone has said, when you are on a coaster sweat etc does fly around so realistically leaving an empty row isn't going to do much.

I think for season passes you should have to pay a small fee online, but it should be refunded if you visit on the date you booked.

It's good they're trying to reopen and I enjoy going, but it's okay them saying they will clean rides at intervals through out the day and maybe closing them for a short period of time which is good, but really they should be cleaned everytime someone gets on and off that ride not just so many times a day. Someone different has touched the ride restraints and other parts everytime they get on and off the ride so they must be cleaned constantly, thanks for reading.
