Ice Nine Kills On "The Silver Scream" and All Things Horror

Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills recently caught up with APTV to chat about creepy kid's toys, creative uses of wood chippers and gush over horror maestro Wes Craven. In anticipation of INK's bloody-good new record, "The Silver Scream," we chatted up Charnas on all things horror-from zombie fighting to ideal drive-in double features. Charnas even made the painful choice between Marilyn Manson and The Smiths. I've never had so much fun listening to an album. Every song is amazing, Rocking The Boat being one of my favourites. It's in my top two album picks of the year for sure, next to PWD.

It's been years since I've listened to any album and enjoyed pretty much all of it. The iconic theme music in the jaws song was spot on, put a big dumb smile on my face. For about 5 years between 2010-2015 I was depressed because I just couldn't find a band that I could say was my favorite. In 2015 I found these guys and that all changed.

@@sflematti You know what I really love about this album? Even if the song's had no titles or lyrics, you'd still have a very good idea of what song you were listening to because the instruments capture the theme of each horror movie so well. I've had this album on repeat for the last 3 days, it gets better with every listen. Having Mest and Less Than Jake on the album is a really nice touch as well.

I agree! I love how the whole album felt familiar from my first play through.I’d have to say my favorite on the album is stabbing in the dark. It’s so powerful and it literally made the hair on my neck stand up

Harry Barnes it's done really well, the harsh vocals make it seem like Michael is after you, then the more somber cleans make it seem like you're safe/ in hiding, then bam hes after you again. Also at the very end it sounds pretty similar to a heart rate, and then the final note it goes flat line, almost as if the songs over because he got ya.

I think INK has two apparent choices after this beast album 1) stay conceptual and thematically sound. I could see albums on urban legends, gruesome folklore, actual serial killers, etc. 2) start writing less conceptual albums similar to safe is just a shadow but with this new evolved sound. Either way it’ll be awesome.

i think actual serial killers would be too dark, it would feel disrespectful. i think theatre would be cool though - they already did a great song about romeo and juliet and could do stuff about phantom of the opera, etc.
