I put 45 miles on my LP5’s in July on a 4 day trip to North Manitou Island in Lake Michigan. These shoes are amazing. Never been happier. I have a wide, thick, and flat foot. Almost impossible to find comfortable shoes, but these did the trick. Great video!

First shoe I’ve found that doesn’t kill my wide feet after 5 miles. Tested them yesterday on a 13 mile hike and couldn’t believe how good my feet felt afterwards.

Zero drop is really about a “mid-foot” strike vs “heel” strike and less pressure on your joints.
@aurtisanminer2827
@aurtisanminer2827 3 жыл бұрын
With zero drop you are getting more travel of the ankle when you walk. That’s why you get sore when transitioning from a shoe with drop. The extra travel gives you that much more spring in your step.

ha, Im convinced, I have lone peak 4, and I agree with everything you have said, but when you got to: after crossing water, your merino sock will be dry in 20-30 minute, I got a real good laugh. Merino is not synthetic, it takes at least half a day for my merino socks to dry hanging out, (on hikes I use only merino socks for last 15 years, actually I use it daily, I have it on even this very moment) Last year I did 3 weeks hike during rainy season and for 2 weeks, my socks never dried, I was hanging them in the tent every night, but in the morning they were still pretty wet and during the day got wet even more and so we hiked in wet shoes and wet socks for two weeks, till we got full sunny day, and my socks dried and it took around 24 hours for my well ventilated, mesh, no membrane trail runners: salewa train lite K to dry completely. So I stop believing those stories about hiking shoes or socks drying instantly after they got wet, because of some magic. I get up in the morning, there is heavy dew on the grass, I hike for half an hour and both shoes and socks get wet and they stay wet till evening, that is my experience year after year. I use smartwool and devold merino socks. But one thing I heartily agree, merino socks keep my feet warm, even when wet.

Big ALTRA fan, and big on zero drop.... touch wood injuries have been very minimal in the last year... did a film about zero drop and why. Great vid by the way, have the lone peak 5 all weather nut just too heavy and clunky, love the TIMP too, but will pick up the LP5 ( as a fox stole my TIMP,)!

Idk I don’t own one but I tried a pair at REI and I have huge wide feet so it difficult for me to find a good hiking/trail shoe but omg. I have absolutely never felt anything more comfortable. It was very airy and so much space for comfort. The only downside to it was the price. Idk I wouldn’t really spend that much on a trail shoe. I even talked to the guy who was helping me and he only buys that specific shoe. He told me it falls apart if you do backpack a lot. Not sure if that’s true.

I had a bad case of plantar fasciitis and ended up working with a physical therapist. In addition to giving me a bunch of exercises, he recommended running in Altras. It took some time to adjust. Calves were really sore, even when my running volume was low. Running felt very awkward and unnatural. But ultimately, the result was stronger calves and better running form. I'm much lighter on my feet now. Plantar fasciitis hasn't bothered me in several months. Not saying that zero drops are for everyone, but I've been very happy with them. Also, I just got the Lone Peak 5 shoes for my birthday. Looking forward to putting these into action!

Zero drop has literally saved me from plantar fasciitis and lower back pain! If I wear any other shoes it immediately comes back. I have worn zero drop and minimalist shoes for years and they have saved me from so much pain. They allow me to still run as well.. I will never go back😃

I love how people make such a big deal about drop in shoes. I’m sure 98% of the people watching this video couldn’t feel the difference between a 0mm drop and a 4mm drop if the shoes weren’t labeled.

Yes you definitely can if you've been wearing zero drop for a long time. It's quite fascinating. I can even feel it inserts with just a 2mm drop. If I do an activity my knees tell me. Cons and Vans are flat but their insoles are not and you can feel it if you're used to zero drop. If the shoe has high heel compression you can get away with it for a up to 10mm, but I noticed after a few hoops and running sessions knee pain returned even with good heel compression. It just takes longer to tell than a rigid drop because it's fluid. Zero drop is a big deal for some because zero drop with the wide toe box tends to solve nagging issues that got created from wearing narrow high drop shoes over the years.

Me personally i can usually tell after some time wearing it. I have sneakers that are 0mm drop to 6mm drop. And i have my speedcross 5 which is 10mm drop. My feet would be swelling and sore a day after hiking on my zero drop trail shoe. But on my speedcross I don’t experience that. I dont know why. But i do struggle a bit when doing downhill on my speedcross because of the high drop.

@@PJ-mj1hy Sorry for taking so long! Ok... THE GOOD: zero knee pain. As well as swap to lone peaks I also did the following: 1. Strengthen the glute mead and improve mobility. There’s a channel called Chase Mountains which has some good info and exercises for this for strength and mobility 2. Stretch the glute mead on the track every few hours and do a big stretch and massage at the end of the day. 3. Protect the knees from day 1 even when they’re not hurting. This includes walking down hills in a way that protects the knees. Again Chase Mountains has a good video on this. THE BAD: I seem to have transferred the issue to my ankles instead. I guess this makes sense. Before I had my ankles locked up so was taking all the shock through my knees. Now my ankles acts as a sort of suspension and they eventually wore out. I have to look into posterior tibial tendonitis. Apparently they used to warn you about this on the Altra boxes because of the zero drop and people not being used to it. Also I have a desk job and suddenly carried 20kg on my back for seven days. I guess a bit of ankle pain is to be expected. Overall I prefer the more natural feel of the lone peaks and will work on strengthening my posterior tibial tendon now in the same way I strengthened the glute mead before.

@rmkvisions
@rmkvisions 3 жыл бұрын
I would 100% recommend the Lone Peak over the Timp. To me the Timp is too soft and it's also a much less durable upper. I've seen problems with the new one in a few instances already, Lone Peak all the way.

Thanks for the reply. How are the lone peaks for road and hard rocky mountains? I.e. do they perform well on hard surfaces?
@rmkvisions
@rmkvisions 3 жыл бұрын
They do, I actually just took them on a backpacking trip this weekend and they performed extremely well It was mostly hard packed dirt road. The new ego midsole is much more responsive than the old one. Obviously if you are on roads the outsole is going to wear down a little bit quicker because it is so sticky but I have no complaints.
