Alum Cave Trail has two parts, you did a great job showing the first part to Alum Cave Overhang. From the overhang you can continue on to the summit of Mt LeConte. It is 3.2 miles strenuous hike one way and the views at the summit are the best in GSMNP.

We hope to return and complete that part of the trail also! Thank You for sharing those insights!!

Its a great hike. Sadly most people get the the cave and then go back down. The best part of that trail is the second half and theres a great little lodge there at the top.

thank you for this informative video and showing the difficulty of it - seems doable but - now my knees are feeling the downhill - you didn't mention how long it took you?

I would say an hour and a half to get up there. Just take your time and enjoy it, there are so many views to stop and take it all in, you will be fine. The steps getting into the bluff cave are the most difficult.

My main question, as I have not seen the answer to yet - is there a loop to get you back to your starting point, or do you just simply turn around and head back to home base?
@CampTravelExplore Жыл бұрын
You turn around and go back, the trail does go to another trailhead as you can access it from two different points I believe
@southerncrescent14013 жыл бұрын
I watched this twice and didn't see the entrance to the cave. Would you show the cave entrance? Thanks
@CampTravelExplore3 жыл бұрын
So the name of the trail is Alum Cave Trail, but Alum Cave itself is a 500 ft long bluff, not an actual cave in the traditional way, it thru me off too, but it is an incredible hike and the views are excellent up there!

Is this a family friendly hike? We were wanting to take our toddler.
@CampTravelExplore3 жыл бұрын
I would say this is too difficult for a toddler, but what you can do that we do every time we look into a hike, is go on alltrails.com and type in the alum cave trail and it will show you the elevation gain and all of the thoughts of the trail so you can decide for yourself. You can stop plenty along the way also, so you could see how they do and keep going with several planned stops along the way! Let us know if you end up doing it!!

I started doing the trail but turned back because I was afraid that a bear would ambush me and eat me alive.

@@CampTravelExplore I was joking, I had to turn back because I had a long drive ahead of me that day. Plus this was a few days ago, I think bears are still hibernating. But I definitely want to do it next year.
