I love the labels on the bins behind you at the end. I saw Subscribe first and chuckled. Then I saw Marzel Vanes and knew you were a man of culture and sophistication.

LOL. i think you are only the 2nd or 3rd person to ever mention that. I used to also stock "Wane Shafts, Lunar" but I needed that case for something else.

VERY cool to have stumbled across this video & page today, as I am restoring a hand built 9 car 50's Kiddie Kar amusement ride. Many of the steering wheels are knackered

Great job Pete! That's a lot of tedious work there. I'm sure Mr. King would be very proud of all the love you're putting into his ride and preserving history for many young kids to enjoy for years to come.

6 metal pulleys from Tractor Supply. Get rubber tubing fit it in the groove. Bind the ends together with plumbing cement. Then a good coat of paint. I think steering wheels are just for decorative use.

I run an Ender 6 with top. It routinely gets to 50c, saw it at 54c the other day. Really lets you work with high temp plastics like ABS (my favorite) very well. I only make practical objects. Highly recommend if you can snag one. Both of those objects should have been printed with flat surface down. Using Prusa Slicer you can do variable layer heights when you slice. This could have made you radius layers require less sanding at expense of more time of course. Also you can have thicker interior fill layers than shells saving some time. Looking very nice. Fun following your project. Many skills required to achieve.

There really isn't a flat side for the top half as the wheel is dished. I did use variable layer heights. That was the shot at the beginning showing the wheel sliced in 4 different colors. Admittedly, I was more aggressive with it on the lower half of the wheel than the upper half. I just didn't want to wait the amount of time the slicer was saying it was going to take to do the finer detail on the top half. Thanks for watching!

Wow, Pete...! What an awesome result! I spent a lot of time wincing, everytime you packed with sand, removed the patterns and drilled it on the lathe - waiting for something to go wrong, but it looked like you aced it! My only issue with your video was the length, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would prefer *much* longer vids..! 👍

I really appreciate the support!. I try to balance creating videos long enough to tell the story, but not so long that people get bored. I also want folks to see the videos but KZbin doesn't promote videos with low retention times. The retention stats on this particular video shows me that on average, people are only watching 45% of it. If I made it any longer, it would be watched even less. Maybe in the future I'll create an "uncut" video for the fans wanting all the details.

Nice job. Good video. I use propane and a slightly larger crucible for my foundry work. With a larger crucible you could pour two or three steering wheels at a time.

I have a charcoal fired foundry I built back int the 90's using the Gingery plans. I've thought about buying a propane burner for it and see if I can heat it up again after all these years without it shattering.. I imagine if I cook it low and slow on the first fire it should be fine.

I also use a home built propane furnace, the electric jewellery furnace you have is just a bit small as you know. Look at Kelly Coffield, I think the spelling is right, he is a lost foam artist who built a suitable electric furnace.

Great video. Two things come to mind. First how I found your videos. I was searching for videos about portable rides and found yours about majestic midways rides. Second, the tools and machines you use to make the parts you need are very informative, and I take away a lot from them. I look forward to your next video.

Those are looking great! One thing to look at with casting- you can use a lot smaller (and tapered) sprue and a pouring basin, it will make for a higher quality casting. Paul’s Garage and swdweeb have some good videos on the subject that helped me understand it a lot better, but the short explanation is you get less oxide and air mixed in the metal. Though then you’ll probably want to add a separate riser as well….

I have not tried it yet but I did see a guy smoothing his 3d prints with a metal scraper. He says that is is far better than sanding.

I have not tried it but I imagine that would work. I've often scraped edges and it works really well.. it seemed like you'd need a scraper with a curved edge to avoid gouging though.

Because aluminum shrinks when it cools and the final product would all be undersized.

Why ABS not PLA? PLA is easier to print, and your 3D-printed part is just for forming. It isn't the final product.
@PeteRondeau
@PeteRondeau Жыл бұрын
I just almost always use ABS. Now that I have the machine dialed in, its just easiest to not think about it. I never have to remember to switch profiles in my slicer. The only time I use PLA is if I want to use a particular color that I can't find in ABS. I used PETG one time- to print all those extension pieces for the Ikea table. I actually have a second printer that is not in an enclosure and I use that one for PLA if I need to.
