- In this video I go over the advantages and disavantages to running a stainless steel propeller. I also install and do an on the water test and comparison between a same pitch aluminum and stainless steel propeller on a 25 hp Yamaha Outboard.

Definitely some good testing. Usually when switching from aluminum to SS you drop it one pitch, in your case, you have plenty of room left to max RPM, I would actually try two pitches. And you hit the nail on the head about the height, you're too high, drop it 1" than test again. You want to be able to trim it up without ventilation occuring. Great video man.

If it’s sucking air, then you may not want to trust your rpm readings until you tweak the engine position. I’d think that would make your rpms a little higher than they would be if everything was set right.

I read you have to go down 2” inches in pitch when switching to SS prop. My 20hp runs best with a 10” pitch aluminum .. just ordered me an 8” pitch stainless steel we will see how it runs thanks for your vid helped me confirm i really had to down size pitch

You should be spot on if you were at your optimal RPM range with the 10p. I'd love to hear your results.

@@mvboutdoors well results are in! Didn’t go well: my boat runs 24mph with the 10” pitch aluminum. Tried on the 8” stainless wich by the way weights more that twice the weight(1.3lbs vs 3lbs) and it jus slips 😂😂 like a blender mde only 11mph before i redline my rpm. Good news is im returning it for a 10” im gona order the same pitch and see

@@laingej Oh wow, could it be cavitating? I'd expect planing speed before redline with only a 2p change. Good you can change!

@@mvboutdoors no wasnt cavitating. My boat is just too heavy .. too small of a prop to push maybe on a light jonboat it would do better. Even wondering if i should go for a four blade instead of a 3 blade

Looks good. How do you know what prop you need? I have a Suzuki 9.9 HP DF9.9BS4 Outboard that I converted to a 20HP. The prop in now is solas 3x9.25x10RB. It does good but I think I can get a better prop. Looking for more speed. 13ft Saturn inflatable weighs about 130-140lbs plus my weight.

I wish there was a way to test a bunch of prop sizes without spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars in trial and error 😕

It's honestly the worst part. If you are going stainless there are some prop shops that will let you return/exchange if it doesn't work. If going aluminum, try Amazon or pieces with return policies and dont damage the props.

Greetings from finland. Not much boating here for few months 😂 all i ihave are these youtube boating videos. Im definately not an expert but your motor does not seem too high for my eye. You should be able to see the anti- ventilation plate on the surface when trimmed up. Atleast it seams that yours is way down there. That thing needs air to rev. Your video is 2months old so maybe you allready sorted things out. Thanks for the video!

Pods add buoyancy, if completely submerged. If you have a duck boat and your lab cant get back in, bingo pod it up. My opinion, they are a fad, and will negatively effect your handling. Just my thoughts. Really enjoy your content! Thank you

I was shocked at how well it handled with pods after all the feedback I've read. I don't know if I'd want to give up that rear boyancy haha, on a larger boat though prob not necessary.

@mvboutdoors glad it is working for you! I have a jet boat so maybe pods handle differently on a prop boat. I've watched lots of your vids, super helpful stuff 👍
